As an immigrant to this country I am extremely proud to be an American! It is not a perfect union; but, it is the best country in the world. I am fortunate to have the privilege to live here. I am thankful to those white strangers (the Picketts from Houston) who chose to sponsor my family and me to this Great Nation. Without their kind hearts & angelic actions, my family would have surely been facing further destitution and suffering. Now, we live the American Dream! Our family ran successful donut shops & restaurants! Five of the six refugee children are doctors. No other country would have made this possible! Happy birthday America. thank you for all that you have done for us. We love you! Let’s make America even greater!

Became a US citizen a month ago .... Biggest achievement in my life. Feel so lucky to belong to the greatest country ever. Edit: never thought I would get so many responses. I keep reading comments and wanted to respond. Thank you all for your loving comments. I had a one hour drive from the ceremony center to my home after I got naturalized...I rolled down my windows and played this song the whole way in repeat full volume. Must have been the proudest day of my life. I was born in a a third world developing country and grew up in a theocratic monarchy which I shall leave unnamed for the first 25 years of my life before I came here for the first time. I can't express enough how much I value the freedom, rule of law, respect for human life and the oppertunity to succeed that America has given me.

@Anonymous Unknown Once again, you are exposing your poor grammar. To my delight, you said, "racist a**holes of human trash [destroyed] those monuments." Yes, they did. We "true" Americans protect our statues because of the love we have for our country and it's mostly admirable history. Sure, our history has had it's dark times, but we have learned from them. Our heroes were not perfect but performed in ways that average people couldn't such as crossing the Delaware in horrible, tiring, starving conditions and writing such an intelligent document as the Declaration of Independence. Their contributions outweigh their human flaws. If they somehow (I can't imagine how) scare you, then simply don't look at them!! However, we who love our country have a right to view them. Lastly, I am not dumb. I'm a registered nurse and work in ICU, caring for a wide variety of people, including those such as yourself. I am anything but a racist. Could it be you who is a racist? Think about it.

Standing on the USS Eisenhower flight deck in formation with thousands of other sailors in our dress uniforms over 40 years ago. We were slowly pulling into Chesapeake Bay returning home after an exceptionally long challenging deployment. Someone decided that playing this song over the ships speakers was a good idea right when we could see our families waiting on the pier. The tears started to flow and I was a little embarrassed until it became apparent that I wasn't alone. A chain reaction of pure raw emotion swept the sailors and the waiting families. Tissue was once again in short supply. America means so much to so many people and at the center we find love and family.

Glad you are here and not there my friend. Cubans are some of the most freedom-loving no nonsense patriots I've met. I love you guys! 🇺🇸

Here from Cuba. Love the USA and am proud to be an American citizen and a job creator, something I would've never been able to do in Socialism.

You became one of us the right way. Never be ashamed where you came from for all of our ancestors came from some other country. You are an American now, Ivelisse, and I embrace you as a sister. This country loves all of those who will love her (the USA) back. Never forget that for you and your family are one of us, now.

Who wrote the song and won a grammy for it? Oh, that's right...Lee Greenwood. So, its Lee Greenwood featuring the acapella group that performed a COVER of HIS Song. You're as bad as CNN spreading rumors.
