I'm a pro introvert.....When 2020 came around, I was celebrating I didn't have to leave my house. Problems with the question how common the types are in society: - All the stats are really old - The stats only exist for America, so technically we only know how common each type is in the US, not the rest of the world - We don't even know if the people in these stats were typed correctly

For how many years, I identified as INTP (by analyzing the cognitive functions and taking various personality tests), then during the recent years, I felt a major "shift" in myself. Took a quick test as a joke, but I was so surprised when the results showed INFP. From then on, I started reviewing and analyzing the cognitive functions of INFP, and it's bull's eye. Had moments of identity crisis over this, but I think, I've already accepted myself as an INFP. :) There's a high probability that no one will see this, and if they do, they won't even bother reading through, but I just wanted to share it in here.

I suspect that part of the problem with extraverts typing themselves as intraverts lies in a misunderstanding of the terms: extraverts aren't necessarily outgoing with people (though they are more likely to be), but rather tend to interact with the outside world first. That interaction doesn't have to be in the form of socializing: it can be research, nature walking, all kinds of interactions. Certain extravert types (ENTP and ENFP) can come across as introverted rather easily. The real trick is to drop the introvert/extrovert dichotomy, and dig into the cognitive stacks themselves.

I think one of the causes can be the ambiguity of the questions of free online tests. Especially the most popular personality test is quite short and simple, much simpler than the actual MBTI test, and gives results with just a few questions. And also, this is my personal opinion but I think mental illness can affect the result. When people are under pathological stress, their responses don't actually reflect who they normally are, giving incorrect, distorted results. For example, an extroverted person can answer differently to the question asking if they're happy and energetic when around other people, when they're going through depression. So I think in reality "true" personality is hard to find and can vary.
@rebeccaromeo45843 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Took it 4yrs ago, while undergoing a mental breakdown and came out as infj. Took it again this year, a few times, and came out intj on all. I did the same, to be sure. I spend any hours to reading, understanding and comparing. Why do they want to be INFJ ? Did they really know this deep feeling to be ignored most of the time, to being misunderstood ? (since the childhood) These memories remain as traumas. I discovered this channel during depression and anxiety, and it helped me a lot to know myself. I was in relationship during 10 years, during this time I didn't really thinking about myself. I never knew who I was, what I want, what I really like, why I felt apart from all the other people. Since this years, I am lonely, even if I appreciate it a lot. 3 Month ago, I was diagnosed dépression and anxiety. Being lonely, made me thinking to the whole life : past, present, futur, regrets, memories, events that make me feel bad, many questions, too much questions about life, human, myself, my personality. Since KZbin/google suggested me this channel, I finally (after 32 years) understand better my life and my personality. Did they really how it is to feel misunderstood/ignored by own family ? It hurt a lot. I understand most of them, I see all, I see most of the time how all is feel. Recently, I finally decided to share my feelings and my recent life (depression and anxiety) to my mother and brother by a long texts, told them positive and benevolent things. No one of them answered me. (seems they don't understand the deep things/feelings, think I am weird, I don't know) I knew this yet, but now I am sure : we are not on the same wavelength. I understand and fell them, but it seems they will never understand/know me (They still stuck with this "I know you", they don't know MBTI or personality things, cognitive functions.) Actually crying by feeling in same time sad and happy. I am feeling better when I see others INFJ share on KZbin comments, feeling closer to them, and less lonely. Happy they are some people like me. Being an INFJ is not always easy, it like a fight with ourselves. When people you think they were close to you, told you : "You think too much", "We will not philosophy this"' and they don't accept your personality like this. It hurt. I remember days when I was 3 years old at school, all the children took a nap every day except me. Rare or not, we don't care, it's not important for us, it's not always funny for us. Remember : "We are all different" 💚 Take care of yourself, and take care of your mental health.

That's a typical INFJ trait, being able to act like someone else. That's even a reason why some people may believe INFJs are actual extroverts when they're really not. It's just a mask to give confidence and being accepted more easily. I took the habit to look like someone confident when I have an oral by mimicking others, just because I knew it would bring me a better note to act this way, since it's what is socially expected. Even though when I'm done, I take off that personality and come back to my natural introverted and shy nature. Now FJ probably actually evolved after those years and I really hope he did. But we should keep in mind that he could act so outgoing because he thinks that it's what is more expected from watchers and could still internally be the same as many years ago regarding that. Only if you knew him in his privacy or if he would decide to answer sincerely you would really know. I'm concerned this could be interpreted as a want to contradict so I just want to precise it's only informative. I don't have an opinion.

@@isha4496 I think it's not exactly what I mean. It's more knowing how to talk with ease when necessary while still being an introvert along the way. That's certainly not a sufficient indicator to derermine your type. First because anyone could act as someone else, it's acting at the end of the day. It's just that it's a second nature for INFJs. Moreover, I think deciding to talk when necessary even if you're an introvert only comes to thinking entirely in term of efficiency and being ready to do what it takes to get your objective: "What do I need to do to get the best results in this specific situation? -> act like that, do that, think this way -> do it". No emotions, no worries, no questions. Everything that could stand in your way is an obstacle that could prevent you from reaching your goal so don't let it be. Thinker types would probably have an easier time undersranding this than an INFJ actually. But the INFJ would more naturally have the skills to do so in this specific scenario of speeches, orals where a partcular attitude is expected.

@barrydworak2 жыл бұрын
@@tarvitsenapua Se is pretty useful. We have Ni but can accept when we don't need to use it. Many real world problems don't require a full-spectrum understanding of something. In fact, that perspective can get in the way. My father, mechanical/industrial/molding/product engineer (NT of some kind I think), never did really get computers. In school, he was the guy who would hand in a perfect math test with just the answers written down. He just visualized everything. Teachers made him prove he didn't cheat by having him do a new math problem in front of the class, and he'd nail it. But he just couldn't get a handle on something if he didn't have the ability to visualize it all at once and see all the patterns. While the first simple computers I played with to learn about them, did allow a pretty thorough and deep understanding of what they were doing all the time, modern systems really need to be treated with a modular approach to understanding. I worked in IT, in all sorts of roles. As an Se user I was much more comfortable with accepting things like black box models. I can accept that this API outputs X and Y and this other API needs inputs A and B, and my immediate goal was to make them work together. I couldn't spend time worrying about how it worked (though my ISTP curiosity led me to explore later when there was time). If I developed an application from scratch, I would build little bits of it, play with them, and then put them together like tinkertoys. Someone who is an ISTP mechanical engineer with a number of patents told me she got her latest one by watching a fly line in the water and observing how the water flowed around it, then applying that to a high end machine she supported in high tech industry. Se is useful. As a kid, I played with electronic engineering, from digital logic to high powered RF communications. I could accept that a square wave is what it is, unless and until there was some point to understanding the harmonics that show up on a spectrum analyzer or on paper in a Fourier transformation. Sometimes that stuff matters. Other times, not so much (other than basic concerns like bandwidth for a digital signal). I apply this mode of thinking to barbell training, teaching snowboarding, dog whispering, surfing... That said, I have always admired the mindset that could sit there in a quiet room and just visualize a CPU design from essentially thin air. Sometimes I have felt like I had the inferior mind. But there's more than one way to skin a cat. 🙂 As a manager I was told I ran things by the seat of my pants. I don't know if that was in insult or a compliment, given the organization. But it didn't bother me, because I knew I was running things in a chaotic and sometimes stupid environment, as well as someone could. Yeah, I could get pissed off because of how things should be vs how they were due to stupid policies and people. But I would just quietly do what I needed to, including modifying keys with a jeweler's file, so my department could do our jobs more efficiently by using unauthorized doors and elevators. 😝 As far as impostor syndrome, I don't think I've felt it. I can accept that people have different strengths and that they don't come without weaknesses. I have experienced burnout in my life. I've done some rather different things for jobs and businesses and I'm hardly done yet. As an employee in tech, what bothered me most was that I was often doing things to support the dubious work of people I didn't think much of. Yeah, ISTPs can think that lots of people are idiots, sometimes with good reason, and sometimes not. 😁

Personally, I think the choice to attend a high-ranking liberal arts college is a strong indicator of a real INFJ. Because of this, I have to remind them that they aren’t the average population. However, these types of intellectuals are also the most likely to overthink a test and give all the “correct” answers - resulting in an INFJ. So am I right, am I wrong, am I even an INFJ? 🥴🤔🤪

Tho i met 3 INFJs in total, 2 of them being in the same class and friends, in high school. INFJs are becoming more 2-3%-ish of the population, so at least most of them might just be INFJs. You seem like an INFJ or one of the types i mentionned earlier, but i recommend doing other tests like cloverleaf or learning about the cognitive functions in depth before truly typing yourself. Also, keep asking how other people strongly interested in MBTI what type they think you are. Might be a great way to type yourself better. you shouldn't type yourself based on tests; you are right to doubt the validity of MBTI, since it's controversial and choice to attend a high-ranking liberal arts college is not a strong indicator of an infj. Also there are no correct answers to the test, you didn't mean most socially acceptable bc extroverted people are much more socially acceptable than introverts so what you meant by "correct" answers are the answers indicating who you want to be not who you are. This has nothing to do with overthinking, actually most people type themselves as what they want to be, that's why even the most reliable method(self-typing by cognitive functions) is not that reliable, unless you look at yourself from objective view.

4:28 - I have literally said this AS I was taking these kinds of tests. I will go "oh, So this is the 'Lie and give a socially acceptable answer or be honest with yourself' question". I think a LOT of people lie unfortunately for that reason or when they know just enough information going in to try and manipulate the results for the sake of their egos even though they should logically know the result no longer matters in that case since it's based on false data insertion. I myself didn't like the notion of being INTJ (and tests often put me as INxJ apparently) because my ego doesn't necessarily like the idea that people consider them rather cold bastards, but you have to kill your ego and be honest with yourself if any semblance of truth matters to you. I also constantly take tests like this at least twice with different perimeters to establish a pattern rather than singular results. I suppose that in of itself COULD be considered an INTJ thing to do even if it's not as efficient, but I care more about doing the necessary work to get the more correct answer anyway.

INTJ here - When I first took the MBTI at 21, I thought it wasn't correct because I had to be an extravert. I didn't have trouble talking with people and I found I could easily manipulate people. I now know I am more "extraverted" when I am stressed. I go from planning the rest of my life to planning my life at 24hrs at a time. You would tend to live your live much differently if you were told you had 24hrs to live vs being told you have 60 years to live. I wasn't into typology and I didn't give it much thought. When I retested about 14 years later, I knew myself much better and I was amazed at how accurate it was and how accurate it had been. 12:40 - Before I even watched the clip I wondered if INTJ's just get it. I feel our view point of the world is so far off that it is enviable that we come to the same conclusion and that is we are not like most people around us. Typology knows me better than every person I have dated and everyone in my family. Lol every part of me want to crap on the "personality tests", I have a strong skeptic on board but dam it, I can't argue with the results! 😆😁

I'm still seeking proofs for that actually, but the general picture now is more clear I always doubt my type and crave for more information, and that becomes a problem due to overthinking the truthfulness of every material and common image of INTJ

I have to recharge energy after intense or boring interactions with my classmates, because I'll be analysing my feelings. Gotta say that every "INFJ" I have met, outside of myself, has eventually been found by me to be ISFJ or INFP. The latter is the easier of the two to figure out if you know the system, by the very nature of having the complete opposite set of preferred cognitive functions. Te would be the function more likely to defer logic to something like an empirical test, whereas I know INFJs and other Ti types (especially Ni Ti) to be more internally questioning of how they fit in the system, as Ti is the more subjective of the two. I found out that my best friend growing up is an INFP, and it perfectly explained our functional processing differences even though we can feel similar for being NF types. Another important note is our 6th function, which has been called the "Demonstrative" function. We all "have" all 8 functions, as they are just domains of interacting with existence, preferences merely indicate which ones we have a natural proclivity to be more comfortable with and operate in more, and to a good extent our skill with said domain. 5-8 are unpreferred, but the 6th could still be considered "strong", just in a somewhat conflicting sense. INFPs and INFJs 6th functions are both the others dominant, and that 6th slot Fi in particular that the INFJ has is what may make them initially come off as having a strong preference for Fi to those who know them less, and/or know the system less. Though Fi often shows up in INFJs with a far more negative tint, and they usually don't identify with it as much outside of stress, as they would more likely prefer to be recognized for their detached and impartial logic and ability to adapt to values and harmony in a given moment. ISFJs on the other hand defer more to their subjective concrete experience (Si) above all, so whatever they are literally informed of they tend to put more weight on. The ISFJs in my life are initially pretty weary of abstract conjecture and anything that does not line up with their direct experiences (such as MBTI itself), as Si tends to be pretty stability focused and wants to stick to the way it knows things have worked. Not to imply they are incapable of change of course. As a soft rule I have found ISFJs to be less likely to read between the lines than INFJs with someones intentions, where INFJs may be prone to OVERreading sometimes if anything. Conflicts I have had with them are usually over the fact that they usually need and want everything stated outright. We often project the way we work a little bit, especially our dominant function, and I have often in my life overprojected the ability to read into underlying meanings I have onto other people, and then find myself sort of taken aback/disappointed when I am wrong. ISFJs of course are a great type like any other, and are an integral part of keeping society sustained and on track. No one keeps track of details better than an Si dom.

INFJ/INFP mistyping happens frequently -- with people who are neither, but can't part with the idea they must be an introverted, intuitive feeler. The INFJ/INFP mistyping is frequently perpetuated by mistyped INFJs who knee-jerk call out other mistyped INFJs as INFPs. It's the blind (mis)leading the blind.
@TheOtherDrManhattan3 жыл бұрын
@@dulles1969 Don't disagree with the latter part, I do see a lot of INFJ gatekeeping by people themselves who do not seem to be the type. If the knee-jerk part was meant to implicate me, I definitely am not swift to bring down the hammer, I know how annoying it is as an INFJ to have to justify the typing almost every time I am in a conversation about types or typing theory. Ultimately, I think a major problem with mistyping as a whole is the use of tests. I realize there are a slew of reasons why the tests are used. By nature some people are more drawn to an empirical method of typing. I also realize that many people are just experiencing that short and simple euphoria akin to being placed in a Hogwarts House or taking a "What Pokemon am I?" buzzfeed quiz, not actually wanting to go much further than what answer they get. By its very nature this system relies a lot upon personal logic and your ability to assess a rather vague compilation of traits that fit into certain functional spheres of interacting with existence. In that right, there is a reason that INFJs tend to be one of the most likely types to be drawn to this method of assessment, as Ni-Fe gives them keen insight into reading underlying aspects of people, and Ni-Ti allows them to compound their own system of assessing people off of a little Se data. Only typical shortcoming usually stems from underutilizing their Se and forming a slightly TOO conjectural assessment method that can't easily be applied in reality.

I thought my personalities changed but after learning about cognitive functions and taking these tests, every single one of these tests pointed to me being an ISTJ all along. I had a friend who checked off every box of being an unhealthy INFP but mistyped himself ESFP because that's what he aspired to be and pretended to be when outside - that did not go well in the long run and he's went back to being his introverted self.

I do workshops on this at work & I like to call these "common misconceptions" out in advance. The big ones I see come up ALL the time are "It's about your preference, NOT your behavior", and "answer how you are, not how you or others think you should be". I'm a software engineer - and I see ALOT of engineers that register as ST or NT and it's clear that they don't "prefer T" they just "avoid F" - which, that's gotta be some sort of shadow imbalance / trauma thing going on.

Interesting point.

The ISTJ narrative of the test I took matched my work style so accurately that I raised both eyebrows on first reading it; on the other hand, certain non-work bits didn't particularly apply. Hm - now I want to reread it…

I am an ESTJ and I have taken the test on various different platforms because I don't trust a single site and on every different site i got the same result. So now I am 100% sure I am an ESTJ 😂

Good video. When I had a "socially accepted answer" issue I tried to remember how it was in my young days, cause I've learned -intellectually - to cover my "disabilities" (I was unable to make a conversation for example and I hated a touch like hugging) - so I could see my today's abilities and issues more clearly (what is more natural and what is learned).

INTJ here, and I just love how true your statement is about how accurate and precise we are. I just laughed out loud there 😂

I used to be an ISFJ in high school and thought it made sense to my personality type. When I took the personality test again I got INFJ in my freshman year of college and same as all the other personality tests I had taken and it made so much sense since I love observing people lol. We are not too common which is why I have a hard time making friends. I knew I was an introvert because I love having alone time but also having maybe a small group of friends but I like to have one-on-one time with people for the most part:)

When I first took the tests for it, I'd come out INTJ actually, but what I found was this is what I'd be projecting to protect myself from emotion when I was depressed, because INFJ fit me like a skin tight glove, and when I wasn't depressed, I'd get INFJ on every test, including the one in my career class that was a lot more rigorous. And in that class with 50 people, I was the ONLY one to be an INFJ and the professor teaching it had only ever had a few of us in years teaching the course. Funny enough, I don't get INFJ on the crappy 16Personalities testing though. XD lol

Isfps very often mistype as infps, enfps and intjs. That was my journey and on isfp forums/groups there was a lot of cases like mine ✌🏻 especially infps, because this tertiary Ni can make you really abstract and withdrawn, in your own world. But then, if there's something real going on, we're all for it B)

ISTJ here. Took the test about 10 years ago for a college class. The description was the most accurate depiction of myself I have ever read. But I don't care that much and never remember what my type is except that it was the duty fulfiller, so I have to look that up whenever I can't remember.
