Hey man, great video as always but one correction I'm sure you know but you mispoke. Unless they are split training, going on holiday block leave or going home on a red cross message, no trainee goes home between BCT & AIT or durin OSUT. Keep up the great work! Feel free to add this correction in your pinned comment and delete mine... Stay blessed!

hi so i’m currently 18 and fresh out of high school. my mos has been declared as 91D which is a power generator mechanic. I leave for basic on july 11th of 2023 at FT Jackson, which is less than a month, and then i continue with AIT on September 25th of 2023 in Virginia. I am so nervous but excited because like the video said, I have not experienced the whole entire workforce as a fully grown adult. I’ve only had part time jobs and none of them come close to the military life. I’ll be back around late november or early december. wish me luck and go army! :D

Basic training does several things for/to you. It’s easier if you know what to expect. A big thing they want to make clear to you is that you are no longer at home. Another is to let you know they now own your ass. The army is not college or a new job. They will train you in doing things and living life their way. They will toughen you mentally and physically, as well as make you ready for AIT. Arrivals are planned for 3:00 AM, more or less. They want you tired, disoriented and off your A game. On your arrival they will scream and yell as they work to disorient you and, perhaps, to make you easier to control. Just roll with the punches as they process you. The arrival process will end, you will be fed and given a bunk. You will go through batteries of tests. Take them seriously. Test scores open doors and good scores will increase your value to the army by identifying your potential. The secret to surviving army training is to take it one day at a time. Get through today, the rest will take care of itself.

@commosection
@commosection Жыл бұрын
Always like learning how the military is now. I went through basic in 1982. The advice you gave Ben Allen is the same i would give to new recruits and same advice i told myself in 1982. THREE things you can do for yourself to make your basic experience a piece of cake is be in shape by running /pushups/situps and some weight training at least 6 months prior to basic. There is n o excuse for not being in shape you are joining the ARMY not the cubscouts.We were issued a booklet called the Smartbook which showed you most of the things you needed to graduate basic. Study that book inside out during every downtime you have.Plenty of down time in the Army "Hurry up and wait". The Drill Sgt's will give you shark attack like quizzes on what's in the book if you don't have the answer you may be last in the chow line or doing a million pushup's ect. The 3rd and final thing is time flies believe it or not so enjoy the moment and the new friends you develop and don't worry about home it's not going anywhere but maybe your GF will but your young and will find others. Don't worry about will you graduate. The Army's training style has improved year by year mostly for the better. You learn by the numbers meaning it's easy to learn step by step and repetition unlike how learning style is in civilian schools. If you are a well disciplined motivated person the military will be an easy process to pass. Good luck

Going to Ft Benning the 18th for 19D OSUT. I just turned 32 and can’t wait for this new chapter. For those young bucks though I’ve flown dozens of times and currently work at an airport. Flying isn’t as scaring as it seems. Let the flight attendant/s know you’re nervous or it’s your first flight and they’ll take care of you. DO NOT let Susie-Lou or Joe Shmoe back home eat away at you. You joined the Army for YOU not them. Don’t let what she/he might be or might not be doing get in your head. Cause I can guarantee you life will not pause just because you got your heart broken.

I joined the army at age 34. I definitely would not recommend joining the military in your thirties unless you are either an officer or joining the air force. It's not just the physical aspect but also the mental aspect of being treated like a child (which the army takes to a much further degree than the air force does because of the infantry focus the army has. You can't spell "infantry" without "infant" ). But good luck to you. I hope you're guard or reserves because active duty especially as lower enlisted in the army in your thirties is pretty miserable.

Please ask anything so you will be ready. Not only for basic but also for reception. So many people put so much into basic training but they don't know about reception and get caught off guard by it. Reception will in many ways be worse than basic would.especially being forced to stand in formations lasting literally several hours at a time with a bunch of dumbass kids.

@@emmapeterson730 if it makes you feel better, half the people there weren't physically fit, im not evene physically fit, its way more forgiving than anything, the drill sargents will help you and its pretty easy to do pt and what not, for running we did 60/120 you run for 60 and walk for 120 so it helped build us up, i thought it was fun so you will too, and they 100% make sure everyone passes, our entire squad passed so dont worry, i worried before hand cause i wasnt fit whatso ever and i made top of my class in the end, also the only test that matters is the acft and thats easy stuff, your just running 2 miles for 22 minutes

As someone that went to basic last summer doing split ops since I was 17 at the time, if anyone else is also split ops take care of yourself do your best to not get injured and if you get sick do your best to push through. I had injured my knee and went to go get it looked at, they ended up testing me for covid because someone else had tested positive and then apparently I tested positive, got sent to isolation barracks for 7 days and ended up not graduating because I missed a weeks worth of training and due to mandatory return date I didn't have time to make any of it up. Therefor I didn't graduate. I go back in June doing OSUT this time so unfortunately have to go through all of basic training again but nothing I can do about it now.
