Joey, check out “The Show Must Go On”. It was the last song before dying of AIDS. He was in horrible health, took a shot of Vodka and sang it in one take. With the context of his health and subject of the song it’s enough to bring a person to tears.

Also check out These are The Days of Our Lives.... it was also one of his last songs and music videos. It is very sad to see Freddy in that state. I wish he didnt die, but the way he died made him immortal in the minds of humanity. Happy Birthday Freddy. We Love you back.

"I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear." Famous Freddie Mercury quote. Queen famously fought, and there was a real tension to split from about 1981 or so until 1985. Really different people, different tastes in music, with four substantial egos. Yet when Freddie was sick, they closed ranks. He wanted to sing and record. They made sure he got to and kept their mouths shut about his illness. Hard times make good friends. They were.

My favorite Freddie interview snippet was with a reporter in Brazil. Reporter asks "Fred, how do you feel playing and singing in front of 200,000 people? Freddie responds "I've haven't done it yet".
@Chinachik

I liked Freddie's personality. He had a great sense of humor, sometimes very dry sort of humor, that's always appealed to me. Also, to hear people who knew him speak of him now, he was an enormously generous person, too. Like you mentioned while watching this, he had a great mindset when it came to how he considered and related to his bandmates. It wasn't like, 'I'm out front, so I'm more important' the way some lead singers do. Freddie always insisted that they were ALL equals or else it just wouldn't be Queen. You also might've noticed that there were certain reporters he didn't seem to tolerate. There was a good reason for that though. The press was often not very kind to Queen when it came to downplaying their talent, and in particular, to Freddie....especially the American and British press. Some reporters were downright rude because of Freddie's flamboyance, so he, in turn, didn't suffer the fools gladly and would snap right back at them. lol

I am honored to say I met Queen back in 1976 - as a goofy 15-year-old.... won't bother telling the whole story - but suffice to say that every member of the band was polite, kind and thanked us for coming to see their show (in Kalamazoo, MI in freezing January) -- and Freddie most of all - went out of his way to give a token gift to my friend -- via HER MOTHER... who stayed behind to chat with him while we teenagers ran away to stand in line for the show ...

Atheos B. Sapien Yes, that's one of the stereotypes. I know a lot of Brits, however, as my da was born there, and some of them have zany senses of humor and some of them have none at all. Just like anybody else in the world really. What other British stereotypes should we discuss? That they all love fish & chips, or that they never smile because they all have bad teeth?

RM Worthington The music press especially hated them. I think the music press had the mindset of, ‘we are the purveyors of good taste, we know what’s good music and what’s not’ so if they thought a band like Queen was bad, they expected the public not to like them, and instead Queen became infamous, so it made the critics look stupid, so after that I think they were out for Queen’s blood.

I've always Loved his sense of humor. Many don't seem to know when he's kidding but for me, I've been a Queen fan since 1973. That's since I was 15 years old therefore I have no problem telling when He was and when He was not kidding. He didn't suffer fools easily, yet a very kind and generous man that Really Loved His , the Bands Fans. And we Loved him back. You never saw fighting at Queen's concerts because everyone there Respected Queen and Queen always included each fan to be a part of the whole concert event. All their concerts were eye & ear treats and Queen always made you feel you were a vital part of what was going on. He always looked to the very back of the crowd to make sure that they knew He was very aware of them and to make them feel just as important as the front rows of their fans. When that one reporter asked the question and worded it as Freddie was the leader of Queen ,He tried to explain He was Not the leader of the band, each one was 25% of the band and that He was only the lead vocalist. And then she asks him the same question again so he's like I just told you but you won't except that so fine I'm the leader of the band. That's a perfect example of why He hated doing interviews. The interviewers could care less about truth, they wanted to hear what their preconceived thoughts were as to their greed to make up stories that SELLS . Money, Greed, and the Look at ME mantality, I wrote that review,even if no truth was in that review. Reporters are always looking for that 15 minutes of fame and a larger paycheck which sends the reporter to go back out and create a larger pile of crap, truth or better yet no truth as long as it gives them that fix again. Most reporters are nothing more than addicts. How many addicts do you trust ? For me none. I want to hear what the real person has to say and how they say it and by actions and in words the way that person really expresses what they mean by what they say. The man on the stage was the greatest performer there ever was , He played parts like in a play yet in His personal life He was shy,quiet, generous, and kind, and had a really funny dry sense of humor. I like that your watching him and trying to get a feel of His personality. The more you see and hear him speak the better you will get to His personality. You have to observe for ones self. Good job you are doing and I like your curiosity.

Joey. I’m sure someone told you already but just in case. His overbite was from four extra teeth that pushed his front teeth out. He refused to get them fixed for fear it would effect his vocal quality. However he was very subconscious about it. Early photos his mouth is always closed.

Jim Morrison was the same way - he felt all Doors members should've been treated equally, and he shouldn't have been pushed to the front, especially on covers. (Unfortunately, as soon as he died, damn near every "Greatest Hits" album put ONLY Jim on the cover, against his wishes....)

It is very difficult to understand the true sense of humor of a kind person, listening only to excerpts from his interview. Sometimes it may seem that he answers rudely or sharply. That's not so. If you listen to the whole interview, it becomes clear - sharp answers are only for stupid or inappropriate questions. My recommendation is to watch the whole interview, there are a lot of them on KZbin. It is real pleasure! Thank you!
