Sid's wasn't a good line at all. I used to think it was subtle genius. But turns out he was just quoting Freddie mercury but in a mocking sense is all. Not very clever. Plus he was prolly a cunt. And I'd much rather listen to sex pistols than queen. But they would have been better off without sid. He was a gimmick.

Well even a person that didn't like progressive rock I mean it was really hard to not to like Queen or Led Zeppelin then I mean let's admit it
@BenCulture9 жыл бұрын
Wisconsin222 Yes. I don't personally _enjoy_ Led Zep, but by no means can I say they weren't _good,_ or that I get _nothing_ from the experience of listening to them. Of course they were good! Just not what I like in rock music. Queen, I'm happy to listen to them, but I don't seek them out.
@Wisconsin2229 жыл бұрын
Well I mean Freddie and Robert Plant, for me personally, are the two greatest rock Vocalists of all time
@BenCulture9 жыл бұрын
Wisconsin222 And I can't tell you you're wrong. But the voices I personally prefer are guys like Carl Wilson (Beach Boys) or David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), or Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek from the Cars. All of them are a lot calmer and less flamboyant than Plant or Freddie. I guess I just like a little more restraint. But I certainly know Freddie was one of a kind. We'll probably never see anybody quite like him again. Even aside from his incredible voice, the guy WROTE most of the stuff, right? If I'm not mistaken, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is his composition alone, am I right? That ALONE is a lifetime achievement, and yet there are also many other great Queen songs. (I know "Another One Bites the Dust" was mostly John Deacon's song.)

I can't understand why people in this comment section love to throw so much to hate to Sid Vicious...he was a young boy who had a tragic life and a even more tragic death, his figure should be valued for the desperate cry of hateful nihilism he threw in the face of people at the time, he embodied the nothingness filling suburbs youngsters, and that's what 77 punk rock was meant to...He maybe not have been self-conscious about this, but this is exactly why his memory should be respected, because he wasn't even an artist he was just there to tell the UK and the world "have you seen what your society have done to us young people? Do you realise there is no future because of you leaving us into wretched suburbs with our families devastated by poverty, alcohol and drugs?" Sid Vicious was one of the ugly and uneducated kids lurking at the dark bottom of a society who puts the winners in ivory towers and let the others rot in their own misery. People like him should have never be seen in a TV show, they are made just to be numbers in dirty factories or obituaries...but Sid was there for everyone to see...and that was a revolution and a cultural shock...He died because he couldn't make good use of the opportunity success gave him to get rid of the poison from his past, like Lydon and others did, but I think he should be remembered as someone who contributed to shred the veil of hypocrisy media put on what's not to be said and shown...sorry for my bad english hope you can understand what I tried to say...

Yes, his birth-name is indeed Farrokh Bulsara, so what - however, he changed his name legally to Frederick Mercury (even on his passport). Also talking about charisma, leotards, hairy chest or not, nearly every person on Earth wanted him - men and women and he is dearly remembered and sorely missed by millions even today, a quarter century after his death (not many can say that eh) and he has been voted by all significant names as the greatest voice, singer and frontman ever a bunch of times. The thing is Freddie Mercury isn’t a violent man but you need to look at him & you can tell that he’s certainly a muscular bloke, he did boxing when he was younger. Sid Vicious (or should I call him Simon Ferocious) probably saw how Freddie Mercury presented himself, with the outrageous clothing & other things, & probably thought that he was an easy target in typical bully fashion but didn’t realise who he was actually dealing with. I think you miss the point, my friend. Punk is a philosophy that has been interpreted many different ways, but one thing that we should learn (if nothing else) from the pioneers that were labelled as 'punk', is that you do whatever the fuck you want. You look at what Queen did, and most pioneers of music, and you can see a punk spirit burning inside of them. Punk because they throw away the shackles of expectation, of rules, and of conforming for the sake of it. You want to be 'punk', do whatever the fuck you want, and stop fucking around with stupid labels.

Queen had a rebelliousness but were the antithesis of punk because they didn't have that DIY aspect where you didn't have to be brilliant at playing any instrument or singing you just had to have something to say, that was the real liberational aspect of punk anyone could have a go and it didn't require years of practice

On the "Classic Albums" documentary of "Nevermind the bollocks" there was another encounter between Queen and the pistols recounted. This one far funnier. Because after learning that Queen were also recording in that studio, John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon was constantly telling the others "I'm gonna barge in and say hi to Freddie (Mercury)!" and the others waved it off "yeah, yeah, sure..." A few days later Malcolm McLaren got a knock on his door, it was somebody of Queen's management who told him "One of your band(members) walked into the studio, crawled under the piano and emerged in front of Freddie Mercury's face and said 'Hi Freddie!' They were both wonderful bands and different styles. This confrontation was much ado about nothing. The better story was how Freddy was at the piano in one studio and John Lydon crept in, crawled on the floor towards the piano and popped up and said "Hello Freddie!" and walked out. Freddie apparently was not amused. The engineer/producers Bill Price and Chris Thomas had nothing to say but good things about the Sex Pistols when they recorded the album at Wessex. Bill Price was highly complementary on Steve Jones playing too. Two of my favorite guitarists in Steve Jones and the amazing Brain May.

Club Astro Transcendental Motor Sid is a legend in a way, just not the music way. His story is tragic, the shit he pulled off was nowhere near as crazy as GG Allin was but still pretty wild. He couldn't play and everyone that knew when talking about him, they always describe him as an idiot, so it has to be at least somewhat true. Sid wasn't hired for his bass or songwriting skills. It was all about the image and fucking with media. Largely a reaction to British political, social, and economic conditions. Sid was a celebration of the nihlist loser. More of a joke, actually. It was never about the music with Malcom McClaren. It was a concept. The fact that the Sex Pistols made a fantastic, groundbreaking album was a residual happy accident, and it is also the reason we are still talking about them today. Didn't think I could have any more respect for Freddie Mercury, but this turns it up to 11.

Love Roger Taylor's - to hell with diplomacy - approach in this vid.

I love the way these old rockers and engineers etc.. all talk in such a serious manner in these sort of documentaries ! It was just fuckin RocknRoll !

Two iconic bands... both broke the mould. Freddie a genius in many ways and Sid er... less so but regardless of John Lydon, or even Joe Strummer's, importance it was Sid that defined punk.

The sex pistols were talentless assh0les who didn't technically influence that many bands. They weren't even very punk. We need to let them die ffs.

That just makes the whole thing seem so pathetic.

That movie was such a wasted opportunity. Great portrayals of Freddie and Brian wasted on bad writing and editing.

And that’s how we got “Sheer Heart Attack”, one of Queen’s most underrated songs

That song is so good it got no weaknesses

Sheer heart attack was written in 1974. Its a good song, but "Tie your mother down" is better IMO.

Sid wasn't a moron, he was a vulnerable damaged young man who played up to an image. There are interviews with him where he shows how articulate he could be.

Fair enough, but I'm sure if Ernest Hemmingway burst in on you while he was shit-ass wasted and started waving a shotgun about, you'd probably think he's a moron as well, regardless of how articulate he could be when he's sober.
