Nic Collins has quite the drumming resume. He's performed with Genesis, Phil Collins, Mike + The Mechanics, and more. So we put him to the test to see how fast he could learn Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy" which was originally recorded by Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Tune in to see how he goes about learning this incredible drum part.

Drumeo, y'all have been pushing your drums pretty hard lately. They're made by Alesis if I'm correct. I have two questions. 1: How would you rate your $500 kit to Rolands? Why would buying your set be better? 2: Can I remove pieces for a smaller kit? I'm not a drummer but I've played friends drum sets. 3 questions...sorry.

Man, I miss Jimmy so much, he would have been the most amazing guest on this show. Not only would he have played some amazing stuff, but he would have every one cracked up laughing. I love a lot of what A7X has done since he passed, especially the whole "The Stage" album, but I can't help but wonder what they would be like today if he was still around, because he really was the driving force behind a lot of their best songs back in the day.

OMG! Same here! I always wonder which direction the band would've taken and how much different their material would have been because like you said he was such a driving force in the band through and through. @cxff33 lmao what? The two most recent albums are a gigantic improvement musically on everything they released prior. The Stage actually begins to tackle larger musical movements and pieces and demonstrates some musical maturity. Life is but a Dream… is by far the bands best work, the idea of Avenged Sevenfold writing a song like G with influences from math rock and Zappa in the same track literally seems like an impossibility for the band that was writing songs like Seize the Day & other assorted low quality drivel.

@@SmallAndDisfigured Idk, I loved the stage but libad just felt experimental for the sake of it. Arguably the most important part of making good complex music is making it palatable and I'm not gonna say they totally failed at that part with libad but they didn't nail it like they did with the stage in my opinion. I'll still take it over hail to the king any day but as a whole album I'd rather listen to any of their first 5 albums over libad.
@SmallAndDisfigured
@SmallAndDisfigured 3 ай бұрын
@@KrikZ32 Honestly we just see music in completely opposite ways with HttK being their worst album by far imo. It’s like ‘hard’ butt rock-like Nickelback but now they’re pissed because their step-dad took away their ps4 for a week. I also think if you look at it in the sense that music is art, their first several albums are not very artistically interesting. They don’t enter new territory or do anything that’s particularly interesting or unique. libad actually feels like a work of ‘art’ in that the band is trying newer ideas even if those ideas don’t line up with commercial sensibilities. It’s probably less ‘palatable’ although the idea that all art should attempt to be ‘palatable’ to sell more singles or t-shirts just feels like art being subsumed by capital.

@@mrbungle3310 I mean being the son of Phil Collins, and the drummer for his fathers solo project and for Genesis helps a ton. Between the types of songs that he had to learn with Genesis, or the more slowed down stuff with Phil's solo project, he's unintentionally conditioned himself to be mentally and physically capable of playing heavy fast songs like this. Plus lets be real, The Rev was absolutely no cupcake on drums, and he laid down some of the hardest drum parts in his unfortunately short cut career which makes what Nic did here even more impressive.

The biggest take-away for me from this video is that it's ok to put something out there that's not "perfect", it's more about the process and our attitude towards learning something very difficult. Nic is a true professional and I really appreciated his approach to A7X! It wouldn't take him long to nail those double kick, ride blasts but obviously his time was limited on Drumeo. I love seeing Nic carry the torch for his father too! Rock on...

Incredible job! Kept the energy and dynamics perfectly, I loved the ghost accents in the verse on that Latin groove too, very interesting bass drum placement!! Absolutely killer job!

I think one thing he picked up super quick that wasn't mentioned was the timing changes from 4/4 to 3/4 that he just breezed through

I think you mean 6/4 and 4/4? There isn’t any 3/4 in this song

Crazy talented. Enjoyed this very much. To be able to listen to Jimmy and be that close in 3 takes especially with an unfamiliar technique is a feat.

Love this series 🤘🏾 really highlights the process of creating songs and the subtle and impactful intricacies involved, especially in rock/metal which is often just labeled as "noise".

Came looking for this one.. playing rock band drums for years before getting an actual kit really did make a huge difference for me. It gives you a really solid foundation of timing and song structures! 👍
