Love the sailing sequences and am constantly impressed with how swift and well balanced Mirrool is, watching how light the helm is. Reminds me so much of the boat my Dad had built in 1960 and the shape was almost the same as Mirrool, just slightly bigger at 34'6. We kept her for 46 years as she was such a joy to sail. Mum only sold her because she was 78.

What a great intro. Your enthusiasm is totally contagious. The real beauty, however, is in all the details: Securing a preventer without leaving the cockpit. The image of the hand resting on the stanchion. The pretty and very functional little swing at the end of the tiller. Sailing so fast that the wind generator stops. I could go on, and I'm happy that you are too.

I hope things are not too sticky there in Australia regarding travel between districts and such. I suppose leaving to right now would be difficult as all the typical waypoints to go across to SA and eventually the Americas are difficult and could close up at any time. Here in the USA we have been able to travel pretty freely up and down the East Coast on the Atlantic side the last year and a half without too many issues as we migrate with the weather . Finding open marinas with available pumpout facilities have been the only difficulty and that was really only last year. Things have opened up pretty well in 2021 so far. So many new cruisers out right now here. I wonder if it is the same out there. We see as many newbies out as a Experienced cruisers these days in the US. I wonder how many will still be cruising in a couple more years?
@FreeRangeLiving
@FreeRangeLiving 3 жыл бұрын
hard to say. We are pretty lucky here in WA it is a massive coastline with currently no closures between regional areas excepting certain aboriginal communities in the far north.
@svbarryduckworth628
@svbarryduckworth628 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good place to stay until things clear up with this pandemic eventually. Can you sail year-round there or is there a storm season that drives you out to somewhere else safer like we have on the East Coast of the US and Caribbean? We just migrate north and south a couple thousand miles each season to keep in comfortable temps and stay out of the hurricane zone for summers. It's too hot down there anyhow, way up north it is much nicer, especially without aircon in a simple sailboat.

For a nice stock. Carrot. Onion. Celery. Fresh is best but powdered onion or celery will do. Half to a full teaspoon of pepper. Fresh ground is best but pre ground will do. Cover with about 3-4cm with water. I usually don't need to add salt there is enough in the meat and bones. Boil for an hour to one and a half hours depending on volume. Depending on the size of the pot makes 2-5 quarts of stock. I like a big stock pot so I get more like 5+ quarts. For meats. One or two filleted fish carcasses. A couple of lobster heads, legs, and remnants of the tail. Beef or pork bones. Leave any trimmings on as well as the fat. Lots of flavor in the fat. A well picked over chicken carcass. Half a turkey carcass. There are to many dishes to name that the various stocks can be used in. Home made stock does need to be used reasonably quickly but will keep in the ice box for upwards of a week. Btw it's nice for a warm up just heated up in a mug all by itself. I prefer chicken or beef for that. one of the really nice things about stock is you use what would be otherwise be cast off from the meats you have on hand. So you get at least 2 and up to 4-5 meals out of one batch of stock. Now That is efficiency.

@@FreeRangeLiving yes it's coming along fine. Lots of rot to get rid of so it's taking a little longer. All now replaced, insulated board and first cupboards going in. Water tank goes in tomorrow. Then the floor. It should nice alone nicely from there. Cheers

Wait… did Troy just say the fish broth had no umami? Let’s see…. Fish, fish head, pork dripping, pork, pancetta and seasoning etc…..and there’s no umami in that lot? Crikey Troy, look up umami on Google.

What is the story with the drain plug dangling by your right shoulder at 2:18 please Troy? For some ridiculous reason visions of the emergency autopilot in the bizarrely absurd movie titled "flying high" sprang to mind and left me wondering if I might be losing my marbles.😜 (After 40 years of marriage my hugs and kisses is half convinced I am particularly since i intend to circumnavigate Australia with a sailing vessel of some persuasion in impending retirement.)

Love your videos but how would you feel if a dangerous accidental gibe was called the "Australian gybe"? Maybe time to kill off that offensive term and just call it a crash gybe?
