Did you know the French and Indonesian Alphabet were similar? And Mountain Dew was Banned in Europe? Let's See!

Fun fact: when I was in big cities in Indonesia especially in Jakarta, people generally pronounced Sprite as 'spraɪt' but when I was in small cities or in the countryside, people pronounced it as 'spriit'. But some people of certain ethnic groups will pronounce it as 'spriit' or 'seprit." Most Indonesians will pronounce Fanta as 'Fanta' but people of certain ethnic groups will pronounce 'panta' because they don't have the letter or pronunciation 'F' in their language.

Let me introduce you to a name, the late Professor Zorica Dubovská. Prior to our independence, we Indonesians used the Dutch alphabet, but there are so many differences between Indonesian and Dutch that we decided to modify the alphabet to suit our own language. Enter Professor Dubovská, a linguist from the former Czechoslovakia who made a lot of contribution in our national language. If you see traces of Czechoslovakia in our orthography, it’s because of her. Rest in peace, professor! 🇮🇩 🍻 🇨🇿

We are basically InDutch because the Dutch colonized for a long time (350years), so basically we are InDutch actually. Many words and its pronunciation came from the Dutch.

yeah basicly, Indonesian is just like mix between Malay and some other local/asian and some european influence with "Germanic touch". Our alphabet sound maybe more than 75% just like German/Dutch alphabet sound, atleast 50% exactly same.

I have been in many region in Indonesia, and met many ethnics who can't speak English but they (and I) say Fanta not Panta. Maybe only in her community or region who can't say F. Because some ethnics don't really have so much F in their words.

3:39 this time around I have to correct Elita, not all Indonesians pronounce F as P. We have more than 700 languages, and in some languages F is an integral part of orthography. For example in Nias you have word like “fandru” or “fasao”, or in Simeulue there are words like “faal” or “fano” so you wouldn’t pronounce the F as P. But maybe she comes from an area where the native language doesn’t have the F sound so that’s understandable. And the way she pronounces Sprite is really weird for me, because I pronounce it as “sprait” but then again maybe it’s a regional thing. And we used to have Mountain Dew in Indonesia, although it’s true that you don’t see it in grocery stores nowadays. You can still get it at bigger stores that import stuff, along with Dr. Pepper.
@anezsiregar95847 ай бұрын
Pendapat saya saja, tapi yang dia maksud kalo kita engga gunain "F" bukan berarti huruf F engga ada dalam diksi kata Bahasa Indonesia/Daerah, melainkan supaya mempermudah saja. F atau V lebih "sulit" diucapkan, dan kebanyakan kita menggantinya ke "P", terutama dalam situasi non-formal. 4:09 she said we slightly don't use, doesn't mean we don't have (of course it's different case in a certain region like West Java/Sundanese people). Anyway, di Sumatra emang kebanyakan orang mengucapkan Sprite dengan "Sprit", terutama dikalangan millennial kebawah.
@kilanspeaks7 ай бұрын
@@anezsiregar9584 the thing is, she didn’t say “some Indonesians” or “where I’m from in Indonesia” but what she did was generalizing everyone in Indonesia. Kind of like what you’re doing. Pertanyaannya, “kita” itu siapa? If you’re from Medan, don’t you have any ethnic Nias friends? Ask them what’s “Christmas” in their language. It’s either Fanunu or Wanunu Fandru (depending on dialects). You see, even in one province in Indonesia we have different linguistic backgrounds, nggak bisa menyamaratakan seperti “Kalau di Sumatra seperti ini” karena Sumatra yang mana dulu? Orang Simeulue juga memiliki F dalam ortografi mereka. Selain itu, V dan F itu juga beda, ada suku-suku di Indonesia yang biasa ngomong V tapi nggak biasa ngomong F, ada yang sebaliknya. When we say something like “we Indonesians…” it’s important to consider other Indonesians who have different backgrounds than you, don’t just base it on your personal anecdotes. Indonesia is a vast country.
@anezsiregar95847 ай бұрын
@@kilanspeaks Looks like you still don't get it. She said "we don't slightly use it.." yang artinya kita jarang pakai tapi bukan berarti kita ga punya. Dari sini bisa diambil kesimpulan kalo dia engga mengeneralisasi, jadi ga harus bilang "some Indonesians" atau "where I am living" juga. Di video juga dia kasi contoh soal Madura, jadi harusnya sih ga ada niatan buat generalisasi. Setidaknya itu yang gw tangkap, it's not that complicated.
@kilanspeaks7 ай бұрын
@@anezsiregar9584 Yes it’s fairly simple, so maybe work on your comprehension. She did specify Madurese when explaining about Coca Cola but when it comes to Fanta what she said was “because usually in Indonesia we don’t slightly, well, we don’t use F so much…” in which she generalized all Indonesians when that biased conclusion came from a place of her own lived-in experience that don’t represent the country as a whole. Because while it’s true in some parts of Indonesia they don’t use F that much, in other places they use F in everyday life in both Indonesian and their own regional languages.

In Indonesian, the letter G is pronounced as [ge] just like the “g” sound in the English word “good”. The letter G in German alphabet is also pronounced [ɡeː] so it’s more similar to the Indonesian pronunciation. - The letter U in Dutch is pronounced as [y] which is a sound that doesn’t exist in Indonesian but it’s similar to the “ew” in the English word “few” or the “ü” in the German word “über”.
