This is a great commercial for Westinghouse that has the animated characters from I Love Lucy doing a mariachi type song. If you would like to see more videos please consider making a donation: / finding

It's weird that 50s commercials are so detailed in their descriptions of products compared to today.
@kerryincolumbus7 жыл бұрын
why is that weird? I'd rather have TOO much information about something rather than not enough...

Betty Furness continued to be Westinghouse's spokeswoman during "WESTINGHOUSE DESILU PLAYHOUSE" (1958-'60).

I wonder if someone somewhere actually has those models with the cutaway bits hiding away in a collection somewhere if not I wonder if they are in a museum or at the back of a warehouse somewhere. It would be amazing to have the cutaway models in a collection somewhere

According to consumer reports top loaders washed better than front loaders for decades.

these are like 1959 cadillacs with big fins…Its a shame america has fallen from these works of art…Get in line more people want these machines today than were produced….These will be auctioned one day for 10s of thousands

I like the part when the animated characters come on.

BroccoliBeefed There's times when I go to the laundromat and see how people overload the washers (both top and front loaders) and they're under this misconstrued notion that their laundry is going to be clean. Or when they fill the dryers up so much, put in 1.25 of quarters and then "bake" their laundry.

She has a point; I worry a lot less about overloading my front loading washer than I did with the old top loader. My clothes also last longer now that the agitator (which was a bit worn) is no longer gouging them.

Agreed. I always remind people that there are no top loading dry cleaning machines so there’s no reason to torture your laundry.

@@LlyleHunter Not really. I recently bought a top loader. Our clothes are quite good..It does have an agitator.

That Westinghouse spokesmodel looks a lot like Natalie Schaefer, who played Mrs Howell in Gilligan's Island.

Should be Betty Furness. She was the spokeswoman for Westinghouse for decades.

That top loading washer is clearly overloaded, like so many idiots like to do with their conventional top loading machines, even today. And then they have the nerve to blame the machine

Funny how today s washing machines are alot like the not so good machine on the left. The Westinghouse idea is an excellent idea. Probably too expensive to make with that design so was later abandoned.

To bad they no longer sell Westinghouse appliances. Probably better quality than you can purchase today. Lol

Hysterical. I swear there's an episode of the Twilight Zone where you see Rod Serling inside the "Laundromat." And I love Lucy and Ricky animated so stereotypical, so 50's!
@kerryincolumbus7 жыл бұрын
what's stereotypical about this ad? Ricky Ricardo was a Cuban band leader that's a fact, no stereotype-casting there at all..that's what he was in the show and in real life......
@LlyleHunter4 жыл бұрын
It’s not just the character he’d played but Desi Arnaz rose to fame as a big band leader of Cuban Jazz before meeting Lucille Ball.

That's what a washing machine looks like when it actually fills with water?😅😅😅

No washer and dryer here, so I get to take my clothes to the laundromat every few weeks to wash. They have top loading Maytag's and front loading Neptunes along with some other high capacity front loaders. I'll use front loaders if I have to wash bulky items, but I prefer top loaders much more (they seem to get the clothes cleaner). It's been quite a while since I've used a GE Filter Flo washer at a laundromat, but I liked those the most with Speed Queen coming in second and Maytag's last.

The cartoon promoting the “Fiesta of Values” gets Desi’s original nationality wrong, which is to be expected in those days - he was Cuban, not Mexican, so the “Mexican Hat Dance” was completely incorrect. But in American pop culture, such distinctions were ignored or not even known at all.

That lady was such a polished spokesperson. I love the way she talks. She could sell sand to an Arab!

This is so biased and misleading. Notice that the top loader looks overloaded, and she doesn't say the capacity of that top loader is 9 pounds. She just states that it's loaded with 9 lbs. the same as the Westinghouse. Not all top loaders had the same capacity.
