I'm don't know how to put this but could someone enlighten this part of the story. The part where He says that "we become one forever" He is stating this for the Human-flesh eating thing. Is it that his 1st plate was of his mother. Could it be that the reason of why he went from a complete normal guy to a psycho because of this? The reason why I'm saying the first meat he ate was his mother, is because they ate only females. So maybe his dad started it or something. So that he could be ONE with the one he loved or something. yeah, I took it as Ann was one of his previous victims. He got her pregnant and decided to keep her because having a family is the perfect cover. He didn't seem super close with his wife, and seemed to treat her like a trophy. I took the part of her holding her face back and him inspecting her as she is starting to look too old for him. He is a plastic surgeon and a perfectionist, so he was looking to replace her. With Noa he thought he could have the perfect partner. He seemed desperate for someone to see him for who he was and still want him.

I love how the guy she was on a date with at the beginning of the movie represented 95% of guys on online dating sites. He wanted her to look and act like a feminine traditional woman but when the dinner bill came, he expected her to be a modern feminist and pay for half of the meal. Then expected her to make-out with him. Of course she refuses to sleep with him then he goes from fake nice to mean guy. Nailed it!

I assumed Ann wasn't only a previous victim, but his partner in business. Like I think she was actively helping him network and sell the meat. She told their bodyguard guy to put Steve on ice. I 100% think she is part of the community of cannibals. She may have started as a victim, but she settled into the role of at least murder accomplice. Again going back to Mollie "women like you are the problem". Because even women who face abuse in the past, can fall into the passive perpetrator role by protecting and aiding people like those who first abused them. She literally paid her pound of flesh to gain admittance and protection to the "boys club" of cannibals. Her checking her face was insecurity that another woman might take her place, even after she essentially gave up parts of herself to feel like she was finally "safe" i.e. being married and attaining financial success and a family. I assume, she felt threatened because her sacrifice to achieve it (her flesh and that of multiple other women) previously made her believe she was superior because she didn't end up on a plate. And Noa reminded her there is always a fresher piece of ass out there, if your partner has the appetite to seek it out.

I strongly believe the movie is implying that Ann was a previous victim that Steve fell in love with. That's why it showed her looking at the romantic dinner setting, this means that once upon a time, Steve did the same with her. Let‘s not forget the note in the magazin. Maybe Ann was the one writing the message because if him giving her the magazin to read means that he likes her, he must have liked the other woman aswell. The woman who wrote the message was later seen in a picture where you couldn‘t really see much of the actual person. My theorie is that he fell in love with the woman, slept with her, made her pregnant and then did reconstructiv surgery on her, gave her a wig and changed her name so her few relatives couldn‘t recognize her. Thats also why she lifted her face in the mirror… it isn‘t hers.

I agree with the interpretation, broadly, that Ann is most likely also a victim of her husband, and likely some manner of stockholm syndrome is likely going on here. I feel its another layer to how our villain is a man who views people as, well, meat. Not even the person whom he is married to is safe from him. But, it could also be a sign that she is an exception to her husband's superficiality. That mystery is likely the point, that we don't know if she was someone originally meant to be carted off to other cannibals, someone he married and then maimed, or if she was already missing a limb when they met. We don't know, and aren't supposed to, but it adds a nice layer of mystery and backstory in this story.

I think this movie is also indicative of what I believe Marilyn Frye refers to as the “double bind” of oppression, whereby all oppressed groups, women included, are caught in a paradox where there is never a correct way to act in the eyes of society. The film shows how Noa has internalized these ideas. When she thinks that guy is following her at the beginning of the film, but he isn’t, she calls herself stupid but also blames and berates herself when she is kidnapped. It’s so exhausting, and it’s why victims are always blamed. They can’t win in the eyes of society. One one hand, society is saying: “Loosen up, you prude, stop being so uptight, you won’t have sex with me or go on another date with me? Then you’re a crazy, frigid b*tch, stop being so angry, nOt All MeN.” On the other hand, they’re saying (including some of the people in the comments lol): “You let your guard down for one second? Wellll, I’m not saying it’s your fault, but you’re seriously a dumb b*tch and kind of a slutttt too and it shouldn’t be a surprise that something bad has happened to you. You should be wary of all men. They’re just wired that way.” Like, if they’re wired that way, then why are you saying not all men? And we’re caught in the middle looking back and forth, like, wtf do you want me to do? But that’s the point: they’ve caught us in the middle, and our internalized misogyny does the rest of the work. As much as I like to think I’ve unlearned some of that internalized misogyny, it still creeps up on me too. Still so much work to do in society to make sure that perpetrators of these crimes are blamed 100% for their own vile actions and abuses of power, and not the survivors and victims.

Literally no one has mentioned the “satanic” symbolism throughout the movie, when he’s chopping the meat outside there’s like a tree that looks like a goat with horns and then when the men that buy the meat are eating their plate has a goat with horns engraved, it’s also shown in the credits. I think the movie is pretty straightforward which doesn't need an ending explanation of the plot. - Noa did eat Molly's breast. - Ann was a former victim of Steve. But eventually Steve knew that Ann is fucked up, too (which she actually is). Hence, Steve makes her his wife. Altho she initially was a victim, she became a complicit. But Steve thought that Ann was also fucked up, too and want to make her his new wife, and kill Ann. Steve started putting Ann's belongings in a box (like all his victims). Hence, Ann knew then that Steve def wants to kill her, which explains her detachment when she sees him die. But afterall, shes still fucked up enough to ask him to be iced and want to kill Noa because shes the fresher meat. The only thing i don't know why its included in the movie: - the dude coming to help and bail out (but thats super realistic tho!) - the message of the first date at the end p.s. love mollie, shes the best friend everyone needs.

I think the guy bailing was a metaphor of how external people will want to be the hero of the day but once they realise they could be in danger, they back out. Mollie cared about Noa and that's why she went after her. Same for Noa when she saved Mollie and Penny, it's because she cared about them deeply (best friend and only emotional support during trauma)

I think Ann is the first person that Steve ate, I think she gave her leg for him to consume and that's maybe what he was referring to when he went on that schpeal about "completely surrendering yourself to someone forever." But when the "fresh meat" came about, Steve gave into his cravings for Noa. I think that that is why they highlighted Ann in the mirror stretching her face back and also why she felt so betrayed by Steve when she found out he was sleeping with Noa. She was complacent with selling the other women because she knew that they were only products to him and not actual love interests.. but just my thoughts.

I think this movie portrays how relationships with narcissists occur, from the love bombing stage to the abuse and discard, and how they specifically pick their victims in certain places. They’ll manipulate and choose the ones with no friends or family like the video mentioned and will have ‘past victims’ with another source of supply (Steve’s wife). When they took her down they said ‘Women like you are the problem’. They side with the abuser to avoid being abused themselves. One scene that really caught my attention was the fresh fruits and vegetables aisle when they were eating cotton candy grapes. They look like regular grapes until you bite into it. Meaning nothing is what it looks or seems until you experience it. The ending when all the women victims take down Steve means they end the abuse cycle by supporting each other instead of enabling further abuse. Creepy but the message in this film is well thought out and delivered.

I think you missed an important factor in Paul leaving the scene. That was a racialized trope but a real life symbolism. Mollie, a black woman, saves Noa. Paul is the only other person who knows about Noa missing and later Mollie. His character is racialized throughout the movie: “beard connect,” “black people die first.” When he arrives to the house he knows Mollie is there, and potentially Noa. But he doesn’t continue to try to find them because it’s the right thing to do. He’s only worried about his survival. In the beginning he’s even oblivious to finding Noa. Only Mollie cares, and because he’s interested in Mollie he helps Noa. Black men have a history of not stepping up to protect, save, and defend black women. I believe his character was a symbol of that.

I wonder if Ann was actually the person who killed Sami. She seemed to catch on pretty quickly to the fact that Steve had become interested in someone else and she is obviously willing to come investigate if he doesn’t check in. We saw how violent Ann was towards Noa after seeing evidence of their “date” so it’s possible she killed Sami because of jealousy. When I saw the note from Sami it made me wonder how many times Steve has fallen for one of his victims. We know about Ann (assuming she is a former victim), Sami and Noa, but there could be others.

I think you're right on the money concerning Ann; I think she was a previous victim, but unlike Noa who played Steve, she was probably kept by him longer and had her mind broken; the fact that she was missing a leg indicated this to me. Everyone has heard about fight or flight, and some people have heard about freeze, but when it comes to panic responses, there is a fourth option called "fawn", which is when the person feeling the panic response will basically submit to and compliment the target of their panic; a good example of this is actually Donkey in the first Shrek movie who, when faced with Dragon and has nowhere to run, starts throwing compliments at her. I think Ann started exhibiting the fawn panic response after Steve removed her leg, and he slowly began testing her like he did with Noa. Ann, however, was not in the right state of mind, and never thought about trying to escape because she was so scared of Steve. Then as the years passed, stockholm syndrome sets in, so when she realizes that Steve's eye is wandering because she's not as young and pretty as she used to be, and then gets confirmation that Steve is cheating on her with Noa, it breaks her because without Steve, she feels that she has nothing left.

This was an interesting movie. I was upset her friend got caught but in the end they made it out. I def think the wife was Sami Akbar because the msg in the magazine was from her and there was one scene where she pulled back her face in the bathroom and was looking at it. So he could’ve given her reconstructive face surgery. Like she wanted to get out but got used to it and the lifestyle. By default she had to go too.

It seems much more likely that Sami sent the note in the magazine to Ann, right? Encouraging her to take advantage of the fact that Steve liked her. Keep in mind, that's only a possibility IF the magazine is five or more years old. (unless you think Ann had babies while held hostage - I don't.) I see Steve as a psychopath who wants to believe he's kind - so I think providing fresh magazines would fit his persona. If that's true than we should give up on the "Sami" connection which I think is specious at best.

Realize this: It’s not just that he’s in a “cult”. This movie has tons of symbolism. The figures playing checkers in the painting. The numerous cuts of different wealthy men eating the human meat. “The 1% of the 1%, the people that can afford anything they want” are the market for human flesh. The cut of the baphomet ram on the gold plate that one man was eating the meat off of. The cut at the end of the rich men naked and eating (ritualistic). The cut of the same ram head during the end credits in the background. This isn’t a coincidence. This is very much happening in real life. As said in the movie, these people can buy whatever they want no matter the cost, they are the true wealthiest people in the world, the ones that can afford to be unseen. They are eating human flesh. This is what they do. They are worshippers of Satan. They throw it in your face just like in this movie. People need to open their eyes to the true horrors of the world. Ann is Sami Akbari who had a lot of work done to look different. Possibly, to leave her old life behind or to appease Steve. No one cared about her. Steve became who she clinged to with a warped sense of love that developed while she played her role for self preservation. She then had the husband, the family & the all-American dream. No way was she giving that up! Ann (formerly Sami) wrote the message in the magazine because she was special to Steve enough to eventually become his wife. Ann was probably enraged because she truly loved Steve and did everything she could to save her own life then live the life she earned with Steve. Ann knew Noa was special to Steve because she was once in Noa's position. Also, Ann knew Noa was special because saw the picture of Steve in Noa's bed, saw the 2 wine glasses & saw that Steve kept Noa's belongings with him and not on the wall with the others. I could go on & on more but I'll cut it short here.

My guess is Ann was a victim of his in his 20s, early on in his murder spree. She was one of the first women to learn she can manipulate her way into buying time. Steve falls for her and they sleep together a few times. She gets pregnant. So he marries her and she gets a prosthetic. At this point she has convinced him they are the same. He likely changed her face a little to give her a new identity. It's probable her name isn't really Ann. So maybe she had a nose job etc. He inspects her face, judging it and she pulls her face back as though to erase the past decade. She is likely realising she's no longer "fresh", she is pushing 40 and can't compete with the girls in their late 20s he kidnaps, who she presumes he's sleeping with. Whilst she didn't love him at first, she does develop Stockholm Syndrome. Hes her life and their sons too. She becomes accustomed to eating human flesh, she becomes cold inside. She no longer cares about the victims. Years of eating them I'd imagine would do that. So she probably joins him in the "business". She probably even gets him some of the victims, a trustworthy mother. Women wont doubt her. She makes contacts in the business and is essentially second in command by the time we meet her. But knowing he's judging her aging face and no longer recognising herself even in the mirror or what she's become (she seems shocked at how far she will go), she fears being replaced. Rightly so too. So when he died she likely seen this as what she wanted. She probably was planning to kill him before he killed her and replaced her with Noa. She had one of the muscle men prepare his body to be stored for meat, maybe she's even planning on diversifying into the "male" meat market being a woman. She tried to kill Noa as she knows from the box it was her that was replacing her. She dies. Honestly id love a full prequel about Ann and Steve a decade previous

Cause their female bond is so strong that mollie figures it out and risks her life anyways, also when noa gets suspicious. This movie is SO good! As a feminine presenting person, the number of times I have been told to smile, or wear a dress and being guilt tripped by men after rejecting them this is all too real. I believe Ann is Sami, the one who wrote the note in magazine. She may suffer at this point from Stockholm's syndrome. She was a good girl, played the game and is now a part of the game. She wanted to kill Noa for killing Steve/Brendan. Killing him means that she doesn't have the life he provided for her and makes all her efforts to be normal, ignore what Steve is and her survival tactics all in vain. At any moment, Ann could've ended Steve after gaining his trust, but she didn't. She stayed and continued to play it safe. Noa is the opposite of that. This glaring point that Ann didn't help, was selfish and played along to the point where she didn't care that other women were going through exactly what she had.

Part of me thought the wife was the daughter of a wealthy person who began the sick business and met her husband through her father. When she appeared with that Asian man, I thought it seemed like it was actually HER business and she seemed more upset about getting found out than seeing her husband dead. I also was frustrated that the Asian man was still there and they didn't tie up that loose end either. I do feel like it could have ended better but I did love this movie!

quite literally just finished watching this movie. i went in blind only knowing it was a horror movie. the thing about indie/artsy movies like this is they almost always use color. in the beginning, all the colors were warm tones. a sense of comfort/cosy-ness. i also picked up on the hints of red everwhere. noa’s nail polish, steve’s house door, the bow on the back of mollie’s coat when she went to ann. i think the plot was pretty straight forward. i did predict like all of it lmao but i still really enjoyed it. i could write a pretty hefty analysis of all the characters and in a movie that only went really in depth with its main characters, id say thats pretty cool.

I think it gives them a 50\50 chance, because Millie's friend is also in the area. It leaves you with some unresolved tension. If she gets a signal they are saved, if not maybe they end up right where they started.... I like this idea of right back where you started followed up by the text from Chad " u up?" To me, it represents this dating game and how cyclical it is. Date, trauma, rinse, repeat. Maybe it goes well maybe it doesn't.

Did anyone notice how much Daisy (Noa) looks like Anne Hathaway Also when i was watching the movie i didn't think so much about the feminist aspects but now i see it more clearly. to me it seemed more like they were showing how easily we eat animals the exact same way yet we're not the monsters like when Noa is eating the short ribs in the beginning and steve doesn't have them and says i don't eat animals we assume he's most probably vegan and that was actually just foreshadowing.

This movie made me sick to the stomach, like it wasn't bad, I just have a weak stomach when it comes to gore or cannibalism. The acting was so good though, like honestly. 😨
