Alex, does a real hardcore trout bum has longer arms than most people? Ha! Ha! Best wishes buddy, nice work again and it clearly works. Yes, has a screw top with a center grove and a rubber washer. Once you lay the tippet in the grove and tighten can be moved up and down by just loosening slightly. Isn’t as light as a Thingabobber but can be moved more readily. Also 1/2” size often adequate to suspend a 2 fly rig with split shot. Move up to 3/4 if water rough.

Alex I have been using the NZ indicator here in Tennessee, USA with 12ft 6x tapered leaders and have been having a hell of a time keeping them from slipping down reducing my depth. Love the system and presentation is there anything you do to avoid this or am I just a moron. Never had it happen with heavier line but this is clear skinny water with spooky fish.
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 5 жыл бұрын
I know the problem you’re having bro. The issue is that there’s not enough wool to hold the indicator in place at the lighter end of your rig due to the thinner diameter. Try bulking it out a bit with a little bit of extra wool - that will sort it. Either that or don’t use a tapered leader - when I nymph, I just use the same line straight through as it helps you flies sink quicker. I did a Filler on it a few weeks ago. Hope this helps a bit

Hey Alex. Great vid mate super informative..does your indicator set up slide up and down on its own with false casting? I have that trouble sometimes, am i not using enough wool.? Where do you buy your tubing mate? Cheers, Sam
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 5 жыл бұрын
If your indicator is sliding from casting then you dont have enough wool. It wants to be snug enough that the only way it will move if if you physically do it yourself. You can get small and large tubing from nz strike Indicator company. Just google it🤙

@@TrippinOnTrout Thanks for taking the time to post that link. Do you think the rubber legs on the 101 make a difference versus say a basic Hare n Copper style tungsten bomb?
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 5 жыл бұрын
Thor_68 I think the rubber legs def give it some extra movement in the water yes. I don’t know whether or not how much/if any more effective than a basic hare and copper jobbie - i think the more important thing is that it sinks quick and gets your flies down deep and into the zone effectively.

Hi. I recently tried the NZ indicator system with natural wool which got waterlogged and sunk in no time. Do you constantly treat the wool with something?
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 3 жыл бұрын
A bit of look aquel here and there but just make sure that you are using enough wool to deal with the weight of the flies and the water you are fishing Also drag can be an issue that will sink your indicator
@AdriftFishing
@AdriftFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Nice simple rig. What set up are you fishing for the larger deeper rivers like the Tongariro?
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 5 жыл бұрын
The same rig bro, I just make adjust the length of the leader to suit the water I am fishing. If I need to fish really deep then I’ll just lengthen the overall length of the rig but everything else stays the same.
@AdriftFishing
@AdriftFishing 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah right. I’ve been doing euro style down there. Tight line with a 20’ leader. Makes me feel retarded casting it due to the weight of the flies and very light fly line. Works real well but doesn’t feel or look awesome. I’m tempted to go back traditional and compare hook up rates.
@TrippinOnTrout
@TrippinOnTrout 5 жыл бұрын
Euro nymphing is really effective. I gave it a good go a few winters ago but just didn’t enjoy it. I like to cast, mend and enjoy the visual aspect of an indicator etc so that’s why I stick with it
