I did not think this simple recipe would taste better than the professional recipe I used last time; but I was surprised!!! It tastes so good that I don’t need any other recipes. Excellent!

I love onion soup. I swear the first time I made it it took over 2 hrs to caramelize my onions. Who knows??? The end result was yummy. We went all out and made the French onion.

it can take a while...especially when you crowd the pot like I did in this video..it takes a while to cook out the water before the caramelization can begin

I've always got a pile of onions in the kitchen--you can never have too many--and on the rare occasion when I DO have too many onions, a soup is a simple solution to the problem

Soup-er delicious 😋 My friend gave me a bag full of onions. I never say no to free food 😂 So I'm going to make this recipe tomorrow. Thank you. Edit: My son made this and it was awesome. I fixed up the croutons and I added some freshly grated garlic to the melting butter to toss the bread in. The croutons alone were addictive. As for the cheese I couldn't make up my mind on Gouda or havarti so I went with both. I've never had onion soup before. It was delicious.

Soup is certainly an easy way to get rid of a bunch of onions--and I just thought of another way! Candy onions! just like candied apples, but with onions (this is a thought I just had and I haven't actually tried it...but if someone does give candied onions a go, let me know if you survive)

thanks! Beef broth would probably be ideal for this soup--I always have chicken and/or veggie broth on have and almost never any beef broth--I generally add Worcestershire sauce, which helps

for French onion soup, I pretty much make it like this simple soup, but when I serve the soup, I do so in an oven-safe bowl, then I'll top the bowl with croutons and shredded white cheese and broil until the cheese melts and gets a little toasty on top; it's pretty decadent that way

Do I have to stir it every 5 minutes during the 50 minutes of caramelising? Maybe my stainless steel pot is not as thick as yours, so it gets burnt if its water gets evaporated quite a lot. Thanks so much !

I don't know if it's fair to skip all the pain that cutting that many onions at once causes. I light a lil candle while I slice onions. Does it help? Maybe? I'd almost rather burn a nose hair than cry cutting that many onions!
