Thanks for the great videos as always. Really hope that Blizzard doesn't ruin the current fun frostmage rotation. Using our full toolkit including Glacial Spike and Ray of Frost has been SO satisfying. It's fine to have Frostbolt be important as a filler but PLEASE do not let it be the be all and end all, it would just be so boring.

AOE is for mythic plus and ST is for raid bosses correct? also wow head has a few things different. but i assume yours is better than theres?

deaths chill frostbolt aoe my beloathed. we almost escaped you NL slick ice. at least we dont continue to spam frostbolts over like, ice lance i guess? surprising to see chain reaction beating out something like slick ice in single target. rip ray :( thanks for the informative content friendo

Wonder when or how we will know when Death's Chill get's fixed. Been searching online everywhere and can't find a single thing about it. And trying to guess based on damage alone is pretty hard on my own.

Arcane will get toned down a lot, but yeah I'll definitely be playing some frost as I really enjoy Frostfire

Question: Does the tier set bonus (being solely Ice Lance focused) make any kind of Frostbolt build unplayable? Or - does a FB build still out DPS other builds, and you simply don't get that much of a boost from 4pc?

There is no frostbolt only build, and there wont be. The tuning just isnt there for it atm. Might be one on 3t eventually.

thank you for this. i was wondering what the build will be like. on the beta there was some frostfire mages doing insane damage and i was wondering what build they was doing. also my frostfire bolts was hitting up to almost 600k crits in champion gear. no idea how that was happening as i have 0 mods in beta.

My understanding is that you cast Frostbolt 4 times because of the Fractured Frost talent so it multiplies by 3 in AoE and hits the desired 12 stacks. When you demonstrated in the video though it looked to me like you only cast 3 Frostbolts and your stacks only reached 9. Was this intentional or just because the beta was crowded / I am blind? Also, if you are playing the AoE build but were going to use Icy Veins on 1-2 targets (e.g. a dungeon boss / 2-target trash pack), would you just ignore Death's Chill and behave more like the single target build that is more passive with stack generation? Thanks for the video!

Hello Manather! Will there no build exist WITHOUT the stupid glacial? :( I had hoped for finally a build without glacial...:< Or is it in pre-patch bec. of current t-set? So hopefully with new addon, it will be a 2. playstyle without glacial ^^

In TWW there is definitely more possibility to play without GS, though its better for frostfire

Atm spellslinger is quite ahead in ST, and FF in AOE. So raid vs m+ most likely. Or we play spellslinger for prio in m+.

Manather, do you plan to play frost mage in TWW? I primarily mained frost, but with possibility to not play SKB Im thinking of fire too. Arcane feels clunky with all the changes & how hero talents work there. Correct?

I will definitely play frost in TWW, the other specs are looking fun too though and I'll main in raid whichever does the best. I've heard good things about arcane's rotation recently so it shouldnt be clunky once live.

So if I play time anomaly and get an icy veins proc, but I have GS already to get launch, I should use GS and then the frost bolts, it doesn't if I have the icy veins buff, or should I ignore GS and cast frost bolts instead?

In AOE only when you initially enter icy veins you should use 4 frostbolts in a row after placing your blizz and orb. Assuming you are talented into deaths chill.

I've been gone since like early shadowlands, how different is frost compared to that, rotationally?

Completely different:D Theres been a huge mage rework in 10.1.5. The whole rotation is now giga fun, a bit bursty type of dmg called cone of cold combo every 45s. Basically to every pack, you go precast blizzard, frozen orb, comet storm, CoC, comet storm, frozen orb, focusing on having target freezed. Second main mechanic is around Glacial spike that you want to shatter and how to actually get to 5 icycles. Requires some study but very fun spec to play

If you've ever played with Glacial Spike before in ST its not too much harder to grasp. They made flurry charge based, so if you have any charge you can use it like brainfreeze has worked in the past. So we have a lot more flurry combos available to us now and a lot less spamming of frostbolt. So the classic Frostbolt -> Flurry -> Ice Lance -> Ice Lance is still the foundation of the rotation, but there are some new additions to it. For instance in ST comet storm when up is used right after the flurry. Making it Frostbolt -> Flurry -> Comet Storm -> Ice Lance -> Ice Lance every 30s or so. Glacial Spike will replace the frostbolt or ice lances if you reach 5 icicles at any point. And then we arent looking to play Ray of Frost, but in ST every minute you just replace the last ice lance in that combo with Ray (using it into the last stack of winters chill). Similarly, AOE's fundamentals are still in place. Put out orb and blizzard then use your FoF lances. We did get a new CD for AOE, Cone of Cold has been massively empowered by a talent. Using it (against at least 3 mobs) applies winters chill to all enemies hit, and completely resets the cd of Comet Storm and Frozen Orb. So we have a combo every 45s in AOE of doing Orb -> Comet Storm -> Cone of Cold -> Comet Storm -> Orb. Rune of Power was also removed from the game.

@@Manather Oo interesting, thank you for the explainer, I see Comet Storm is being used now, I remember it being on a tier set and it being able to miss if the boss/target moved, is that still a thing we need to worry about or did they fix that?

yeah kind of, in st at least. Spellslinger just presses ice lance for 20s in a row in cds, and frostfire plays like normal frost.

Most classes are getting at least some talent reworks, frost included. And for frost hero talents have a relatively small effect on what we choose in our talent tree (SS having no GS, vs FF having GS as the only difference).

I edit and update the public one for frost mage (along with a few other people), sometimes I write new segments when testing certain ideas (like 1 unfreezable mob + 4 freezable) that wouldnt make sense to be added to the base apl, but that gets posted in the mage discord research channel if its anything interesting.
