I've been playing around with DCS intermittently through the last couple years and picked up FSX on steam recently to help get a better grip on the general flight systems and ATC protocol, etc. I'm finding your videos provide a really good level of coverage for my experience level, filling many gaps I had on navigation and communication systems. Keep up the good work!

The most complete and detailed tutorial series. Clear as the clear weather settings. I would be grateful for a video on how to steer with the rudder pedals on the taxiways. I struggle with that aspect. Thanks for a great structured presentation.

Thanks a million Doofer, i can not express enough how much this series has helped me! please rest assured that i am not alone for although FSX is a great flight sim product even though it is now getting on a bit, it is still the main Flight sim product for the home user or at least it appears to be! I have a good set of saitek controls and panels but they may as well be written in Martian to those who have no experience of piloting an aircraft be it GA or a microlight let along multi engine Jets! Your series of tutorials have been invaluable for the likes of me, just to understand the terminology and how to apply basic concepts, Once again many thanks and please keep up the good work

These videos are FANTASTIC. I am a private pilot and learned more from your videos that I did through my ground school and about 100 hours of flying. I'm planning to purchase FSX and I assume the steam version is the right path to take. Also, any recommendations as to a good basic PC (preferably a laptop) to be satisfied with the simulations.
@Doofer9118 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks very much for that comment, I'm always amazed that my videos can help real world pilots! I'd definitely say that FSX is probably the most widely used simulator and most "friendly" as in it's easy to set up, nice user interface, a LOT of addons etc. With regards to laptops, I can't recommend any specific one because there's so many but I know that FSX is more CPU intensive over anything else so look for a laptop which has a powerful processor and you should do fine.

I just picked up X-Plane 11 and was looking for some decent flight tutorials, and was pointed towards your series. They are excellent, thank you for doing them. There's a few differences between FSX and X-plane but generally speaking then information regarding how to fly works with X-Plane (and I would think any other simulator). Looking forward to having fun with my new software :)

Very nice detail in this simulation package. Looking at your other videos I think the combined fuel flow / EGT actually works, and it would be interesting to see if you can peak EGT by fiddling with the mixture setting. I'll get a copy of this package and have a fiddle around, just to see :-)

Yo Doof, do you have any videos that touch on fuel mixture controls or feathering (whatever the hell that is? :/ )
@Doofer9116 жыл бұрын
I don't think I did early in the channel's history. I didn't really learn about Fuel Mixture until I started flying the A2A C172. I did do a video about propeller pitch and how it affects performance but not Fuel Mixture.
@michaelfarrell48246 жыл бұрын
Cool man I've been reading up on it, downloaded the A2A 172 myself yesterday whilst I was watching your stream, trying to swot up before I take it out for a serious flight
@Doofer9116 жыл бұрын
It's pretty straight forward, just lean the mixture until the temperature hits its maximum, then add a bit more fuel back in to drop the temp slightly.

Hi Doofer911, I am pretty new FSX but found your Tutorials fantastic. A lot better than most of the American ones on here. I have 1 question, How do you change the call sign of the plane? I noticed yours is G-LERN . Have you changed that or was that the default on yours. I would like to personalise mind if possible. G-CHAD would be great. Many thanks

Sure, when you select the aircraft, there should be a "Details" button on the screen. If you click on that, you'll see a box where you can change the Tail number/Callsign.

Still confused by Turn Coordinator (I’m early beginner). I thought I’d read somewhere that the plane icon on the Turn Coordinator is showing Yaw, as compared to the attitude meter which shows Roll.
@Doofer9115 жыл бұрын
The Turn Coordinator is showing Yaw to some extent. What it's actually showing is whether the plane is in "balance". If the plane is Yawing, it's not in balance so you can use the turn coordinator with the aim of keeping the black ball in the middle of the bar. If the ball moves to the right, push the right rudder. If it moves to the left, push the left rudder. When the plane is in balance, it is cutting through the air nicely. If it's not in balance, it will be slipping sideways through the air.

I have the same controller. I set sensitivity of the rudder to half. Then I set the null of the rudder to half of what I set the sensitivity of the rudder so it would be 1/4 of the null bar. The flight controls are ok, I think the rudder is super sensitive though, unless you do what i did

In Virtual Cockpit view, you can hold the Spacebar and move the mouse. You can also zoom the view by holding Spacebar and rolling your mousewheel. In 2D views, I think you need to enable NUMLOCK and then you can use the numbers to look around.

@HeshamALAhdal4 жыл бұрын
Guys since you are here and i am guessing that you are true lovers of FSX, Dont you think that the level of realism in new MFS 2020 is bad? I mean I feel like it is a sim for novice players and it is NOT for experienced players, if a real pilot plays both games, he will prefer the old one, YES the graphic is amazing on MSF2020 but other than that FSX is way better. don't you agree? for example how many panels not working on the airplane? how many switches are "INOP" not functional!!!

I know not everyone writes English, but COME ON! The word "your" is not the word "you're". So when you write, "Your the best," you actually mean "you're the best." Native English speakers are the worst offenders, BTW. You are = you're. They're = they are. We'll = we will. Get it? Got it? If you want to sound intelligent, write as such.

No, you can gain some understanding of what you're looking at inside a plane from a simulator, but nothing can match actually being in a plane.
