Yeah I'm pretty sure Akatosh gets dibs on your dragon soul. It's my understanding that all dragons return to Akatosh when they die since they are all his children. Since dragons were created in his realm they don't belong to mundus, and when they die on nirn they return to their realm. Similar to how dremora (or any daedra) can't be permanently killed because when they are summoned and die on nirn, they are just reborn in their home plane of Oblivion. Except in this case, Akatosh's realm is the home plane and nirn is the place the DB is conjured. Headcanon: The Dragonborn is just a conjuration. Lol.

I use the Azure bodypillow mod for Morrowind and i gotta say it makes the game far better just knowing shes with the Neverarine constantly. Also i can look on some ass/TTs whenever i want. (if there is a mod like that for skyrim and that would be the reward for keeping the star white then MAYBE i would consider it.).

in my own playthrough, I restored the Star to Azura because she had asked a favor and done me no wrong. Her anger over the corruption of the star and her revenge on Malyn are both justified. Nelacar seems to think that Malyn wouldn't have gone mad without her, but Elder Scrolls lore is full of mages who went batty on their own.

My Skyrim play-throughs have been more on the side of 'Wise Wizard' 'Honourable Warrior' and 'Savage Hunter' - generally more neutral than 'evil' but I prefer the shade of grey to black and white. I hope the next Elder Scrolls has more morally ambiguous questlines and decisions, and a lot less overt "This is good. This is evil." I don't want to know or even be told who I'm supposed to hate in the first five mintues of a questline, let us decide for ourselves. *Looks at Ancano*

Azura was the first Deadric Prince I was exposed to in the Elder Scrolls when I played Morrowind, so I have a fondness for her. Even when I learned about acquiring the Black Star, something about it didn't feel right. Whenever I play the Azura's Shrine quest in Skyrim, I always side with Azura, so the only way I use the Black Star is by cheating. Praise Azura and her kindness.

Azura already knew you were coming and what you would do, and asked your help anyway. I think she only wanted her Star cleansed of the corrupting soul. Once that was done, she was perfectly capable of reclaiming the artifact anytime she chose. I don’t think she cared how you cleansed it. Only that you cleansed it. Aranea was simply overzealous and overreacted if you took the option she didn’t agree with. There’s no indication Azura gets angry over your choice. Only Aranea shows a clear personal offence.

@@PeteTheGrouch - Certainly. Aranea took it much too personally. The game makes it clear repeatedly that Daedra have the power to give and reclaim their artifacts when and how they choose. Azura gave Aranea the foresight to see the coming of the Dragonborn and point them in the right direction, but Aranea’s own bias gets in the way after that. Azura has the power of prophecy and would have known the cleansing method you would choose. If she had an issue with it, she could have simply sent someone else who would have done it the way she preferred. I believe Azura’s only concern was ejecting the wretched mage that had taken up residence, by any means necessary.

I liked that the Black Star quest even gave you the option of snubbing Azura. I wish more quests let you tell the Daedric Princes to sod off. This should come with consequences, of course, but I would still make it a point to offend every single one of them in at least one playthrough. Could make for a nice challenge run.

Know what would be great? If you did that, the daedric princes started sending forces after you, but you get a more powerful version of the artifact. So when you get into a dungeon, it may spawn additional, strong random mobs or even magic effects inside the dungeon, depending on which daedric princes you offended. If you snubbed mehrunes dagon he could spawn in dremora, whereas if you snubbed sheogorath, you may be affected by a random negative effect every once in a while, such as randomly being set on fire, losing all your magicka or just randomly getting paralysed/ragdolled, whereas Nocturnal just makes every enemy aware of your position, whenever you try to sneak.

One thing I never understood is how Azura can be the prince of dawn and dusk when Azura is Daedra, not our ancestors and always was before mundus was created. So if that is so then there was no sun when she first existed, did she become the prince of a aspect of reality only after it was created by the Aedra?

Another Guy Azura being the prince of dawn and dusk isn’t meant to be taken literally. It’s more of a figurative or symbolic thing. Azura is a vain Daedra who created nothing, but that vanity leads her to appreciate everything to do with beauty. Dawn and dusk are some of the most beautiful times on our planet (and Nirn, of course), and thus, Azura associates herself with them.

Meridia is actually nicer than Azura. Azura is kinda like a Greek God. "Be good little followers and you get gifts and to pray to me, but disappoint me and I will kill you, do worse? Well... lets take a look at history" Meridia just hates all things undead and that alter the circle and purity of life. Honestly still no clue why Dark Elves in Elder Scrolls pray to Boethiah and Mephala. Azura I can see. But the prince of treason and the prince of discord? How are they good? In what way do they benefit Dark Elves or anyone?

Assassin organizations are regularly employed by the government and everyone knows it, they don't try to hide it. The only punishment for murder is being stupid enough to get caught.

Well...when the Tribunal betrayed her, she punished ALL Chimer. Doesn't seem that benevolent to me, and if you don't do exactly what she says, she might kill you. She also did nothing for the Khajiit for the years they were enslaved by her own cursed people, don't know why they'd still venerate her at all. She's still a Daedra, you know the whole 'Not Ancestor' thing, no one on Nirn owes her anything. At least Meridia helped build Mundus, even if she and the rest of the Aedra were tricked into doing it, or did so willingly depending upon the pantheon.

what's weird is the thinking of nelacar. the game doesn't tell why he left the college. he also says that he can finish malyn's work corrupting the star. in the end i feel like by getting the black star, you should get a curse of madness from azura the same way as malyn had it :^) other than that, the elder scrolls wiki says azura is considered a "good" daedra with mephala and boethiah, but when you see the skyrim quests you get from those "good" daedras (betraying friends basically), you might as well screw azura. also, as others mentioned, having black star can punish the bandits and all, where as the azura star can only get grand souls from mammoths early on. lore wise, trapping black souls apparently corrupts the caster as it would count as necromancy.

Two things: 1. Skyrim is *not* a roleplaying game! As much as many of us would like it to be one, it is not. Skyrim is an *action* *game,* with light roleplaying elements. Pete Hines has stated publicly (on Twitter) that Bethesda is not concerned with their own lore, or keeping it consistant from game to game. What this means is, if you were holding out hope that TES VI was going to finally be the RPG of your dreams... Well, I'm sorry to tell you, but it won't be. The only way Bethesda will make the great RPG that we all want and hope for will be if they get a complete change of staff. We will all be much better off hoping that CD Projekt Red or Once Lost Games makes the next great Fantasy RPG that we are all craving, because all we'll be getting from Bethesda is more of the same, but with better graphics and more microtransactions. I hate to say it, but it's hard to ignore official statements from Bethesda themselves.

For me, it was the computer RPG that I role played the most. Thanks to it being easy no matter your build, I soon got bored with my normal min-maxing and started actual role playing. I approached all those inconsistent quests from the character's viewpoint. As a vampire, I didn't work with anti-undead factions. As a fighter type, I never did the College quest. Plenty of other things to do in Skyrim!

Remember that each Prince's plane of Oblivion is simply an extension of their own being and nature, and Azura has both a loving, benevolent side and a spiteful, angry side. Bearing this in mind, I believe Varen's soul was consigned to Moonshadow when he was cleansed from the Star. Not the exquisitely beautiful aspects we know about it, but an inescapable realm of horror and agony that no mortal could ever recover from after spending even an instant there, worse than any of the other myriad hells in Oblivion (we know of) combined.

I took...Azura's Star. In truth, it's easier (and cheaper) to acquire one type of soul stone, than to acquire several types. I worry not about the scorn from the femme fairest, but my preference has always been for tying loose ends rather than gluing them together. Just be sure to not have Azura's Star in your possession when attempting to free the Forsworn...you'll lose it forever. :/ (I have always hated how one cannot store 'key items' before you get into such a situation...)

@@Brandon11746 ... Azura's Star, the Skeleton Key. Both are powerful items that can never be removed from the player's inventory voluntarily but both are lost when attempting to free the Forsworn. Of course, there is a way around this, and that is by giving Markarth to the Stormcloaks after starting the Forsworn Conspiracy quest (at the treaty summit at High Hrothgar), it will conclude the quest right then, though the Forsworn are still trapped in the mines and are there forever.

To be fair, Azura tends to _engineer_ the fruition of her prophecies, so it's not so much fortune telling as manipulation. Just look at the Nerevar prophecy. She predicted that someone claiming to be the Nerevarine would show up and do certain things. But to protect her credibility, she also "predicted" that before that, there would be a bunch of people who tried and failed. At one point during the main quest of Morrowind you find a cave full of ghosts of people who thought they were the one, but only aren't on account of dying before they could finish her tasks. You are literally just the latest in a long line of schmucks who she sent a vision to get them to attempt to do her bidding. If you succeed, you were the one, if not you were one of the prophesized false nerevars. If at first you don't succeed, find another credulous pawn and try again.

My decision always depended on if my character was evil or not. If they were good, they’d take Azuras Star. You can only store white souls in the star, so it discourages necromancy. With the Star you aren’t meant to kill people for enchanting. Also my good characters are also usually mages/scholars/Dunmer who aren’t stupid enough to trifle with a Daedric god like Azura. If they’re bad, Black Star. Nelacar makes a good point in saying that mortals are only pawns to be used by the Daedra...but by giving you the Black Star he is sanctioning you killing people. The Soul Cairn is worse than hell. Wouldn’t wish that even on bandits. And yes I understand it’s just a game 😂

They should have a quest line in the next game where you free souls from the soul cairn as well as any who didn't deliberately and deservedly sell their souls to the more evil variants of the Daedra, a quest line almost as important as the main one, if not THE main one. Something that doesn't rid Nirn of evil (far from it) but does make the afterlife a much less cruel place for those who aren't evil. That would be a WICKED and SATISFYING quest line :)

I usually take the Black Star for the utility. Most of the enemies later on are human-marked with black souls and you can't find enough black gems in the game if you do a lot of enchanting for various reasons.

It depends on who you give it to if you give it to Arcaena then you can have her as a follower and Azura's star but you can only capture to Grand soul gems but if you give it to Nelacar then you get the black star and you can capture any type of soul including black soul gems so the black star is better and it's definitely worth it.

If you play your cards right, Azura is basically hand-tied for dealing with you. I, myself have the favour of Nocturnal, Sheodograth, Akatosh, Clavicus Vile, Hermaeus Mora, Hircine, Sithis, That one plague tree, That one whispering door that gives you a katana, Molag Baal, Boethia, The werewolf daedra, the entirety of Sovngarde _and_ Dhurneviir, who will yoink me out of that mess into the Soul Cairn with my good boy Arvak until I can A) GTFO into another reality or B) Stay there for a few centuries until shit blows over.

Considering her history, I think I'd rather stay on the safe side; risk can be fine, but you gotta carefully weight the potential bad and good of both sides before coming to a decision, and corrupting the Star has too many long term risks.

I'd like to see Azura try to punish the Dragonborn, Shor in flesh is far too powerful for a Daedric prince to curse/punish, I mean even if they kill you, something that's really hard considering shouting beats all other forms of combat, you'll go directly to sovengard where You are the King. Unlike other elderscrolls protagonists in Skyrim you are a God yourself so no need to bend the knee to other Gods
