my favorite gels that i have tried so far are the BPN Go Gels. They taste really good and they aren't thick, ive had runs before where I dont have water near me but I need to pop one and I feel perfectly fine, maybe try giving them a shot. They are pretty thin and have about 23 carbs each I believe.

Good luck at Valencia! I like the UCan gels, but they are lower in carbs. I’ve seen the ads for the Crank Sports e gels, 30 grams of carbs. I might try those out. Or maybe the precision fuel ones. Good luck with the gels. Fueling is challenging. I recently tried adding dates to the end of my long runs. They’re small and loaded with carbs, but they also bring fiber to the party. 😂🏃🏻♀️👟
@eddiegaul1903Ай бұрын
Well done on your training. One of the things I love about your channel is all the places in the SLC Valley you run. I've raced / run plenty of times in Riverton there. Hopefully one day you guys come out to the Murray area of the JRT and do some filming. I've seen a few elite runners along there over the years and I am a regular. Winchester Park is the place to park and set up base (they have bathrooms there as well). As far as gels go, I've always like GU but I sense they are a bit tough on the stomach for most people. Tailwind is my go to drink that is a solid replacement for the gels.
@jm33855Ай бұрын
I really like the BPN gels they also added a caffeinated version so I alternate a regular with a caffeinated on my runs
@k07-Ай бұрын
I would also recommend trying the BPN gel since you’re in the US. Furthermore you can try the SIS gels, as they are less sweet but still have a good consistency
@blitzkrieg9676Ай бұрын
one of my current favorites is the precision fuel gels. they're 30g carb/gel but they're still not too much volume and they sit in my stomach with no issues. however, im slow and in the middle of ultra training so they might behave different for you under fast marathon training but i would still say give them a shot.

I’m like you where I can’t do the syrup-y gels like GU. Real good gels like Spring go down easy. Problem is they are often super expensive. Try the BPN Go Gel. I’ve loved them lately. I like the apple cinnamon one.
@homeroochoa47Ай бұрын
I’ve been really liking the raspberry and strawberry Muir gels from REI. They’re basically dehydrated fruit and they go down easy + don’t give me stomach issues
@shaggy363Ай бұрын
I really like precision fuel at 30g a pop. Another good one is SIS beta fuel (nuetral flavor) at 40g per pop. David Roache takes both and just broke the Leadville 100 mile record. He was consuming 120g, so your 70-80g/hr should be fine. Good luck in finding something that works for you.
@Marty-v6cАй бұрын
Adam, if those gels are only 16g carbs, you could try an apple sauce packet. It isn't syrupy and it has 14g-16g carbs depending on the brand.

You should look at Precision Nutrition & Hydration! Their gels are really easy on the palate and the stomach, not very sweet, they’re 30g of carbs and they also have a 90g carb large gel with a squeeze top so you can run with it in your hand and have a third at a time

@kevinmclendon3047Ай бұрын
Warning long post on nutrition: PF 90 are great sipping gels, better consistency than gu and the like, and 90g in one larger resealable pouch. That mixed with UCAN in my bottles is what I did for Unbound 14hr bike race. Allowed me to stay @>90g/hr (i can only do 75-85g/hr running) So you could mix the long acting ucan gels with a quick hit gel for any hills, hard spots, or mental dark points. Then preferred product or on course for nutrition for drink options with additional calories to bring up that average. SIS (22g) and Victus (45g) are much more isotonic water like gels that go down easy with mild flavor. But larger size so space is a consideration though easily absorbed. At the end of the day - I recommend having more than 1 product on race day. What if your 'go-to' isn't sitting well that day or you a feeling a little different at the moment. I.e. all thicker and thinner consistency, and a couple caffeine gels when that wall is coming is a game changer. Caffeine gets that 2% performance improvement, works best to block fatigue once you have a fatigue. So a little in the AM pre race to get going, and then a hit again on the back half. That plus the alphas, plus bicarb, you can crush that PR! Loving the journey!

Are those the Alphaflys? I recently bought them and I hate them. They feel like I’m wearing heels, one of the guys my local running store said they are geared towards heel strikers and it makes sense, the shoe has a lot of stacked in the heel and I’m a midfoot striker, they recommended the asics metaspeed paris, so that’s the next shoe I’m gonna try. It’s a no for the-alpha flys for me. I need more control of the shoe and stability, they feel too off the ground for me and chunky
