I just realized...Mustang saying that it's raining is a double meaning. Obviously he's crying, but when it rains he's useless and can't do anything, which is why he says it's raining (because Hughes is dead and can't do anything about it).

Ah man, I cry every time. It's the part with Elysia that gets me. It's such a realistic young kid reaction to just not understand what's happening. :( Also, Hughes was only 29 when he died. Oh, and one thing I love about the "It's a terrible day for rain" line that I don't ever really see mentioned is... funerals in TV and movies always take place in the rain. It's visually evocative, but it's also really cliche. Here, though, it's a bright sunny day, and it really does feel wrong. Like it *should* be raining.

@nahte1234567 жыл бұрын
This was actually done pretty much on purpose though, it was generally assumed that if you are watching brotherhood, then you already watched FMA, so Brotherhood doesn't even try to flesh out the start as much, just establish what's canon and what's not, so it can flesh out the rest of the story better.

Different strokes I guess. I feel differently. I think villains should always be humanized, it's what makes them great villains. What's great about Brotherhood is that all of the homonculi were very human, despite looking down on them, and so I think they did that perfectly. But we have different perspectives and that's cool.

Hughes was killed NOT just because he knew too much... They knew Mustang loves the guy. They were hoping that killing Hughes will force Mustang to do Human Transmutation, just like all other Sacrifices. Heck, in the middle of the story , Mustang finding out the TRUTH wasnt even a big deal to the people behind everything. Mustang and his team were ALL spared when they attempted the first coup. So the only conclusion I could make was that Hughes was killed just so Mustang would attempt to bring him back to life.

You know, their reaction here to Lust and Envy made me realize that, if you know nothing about FMA, then you probably can just think Lust, Envy and Gluttony are humans using alchemy, like the Blind Wave crew do. And, given the 1 episode a week format they're doing, they aren't going to find out a lot of stuff for a LONG time. For one, they won't learn the truth about what Envy, Lust, and Gluttony really are until Ep 13. And even then, they'll only get it if they connect the Ouroboros tattoo thing. Spoilers: : : : : Ep 13 is when we first meet Greed, and he just flat out tells you he's a Homunculus, while showing his tattoo. Then in EP 14 you basically meet 6 of the 7 Homunculi that confirms they are all based on the 7 deadly sins, AS WELL AS seeing Father for the first time. But even after all of that, you STILL don't know they have Philosopher's Stones as their heart/core until EP 19.
@cbrownjc76337 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel Tzukishiro Well you'd be surprised the number of people who actually DON'T get it after watching episode 13, and are STILL freakin' confused by it all until it's compelty spelled out at the end of Episode 14. I've seen more than one reaction that didn't understand all of it until the end of Ep 14. Don't assume just because you may have got it all in Ep 13 that everyone else will. It's just like those who don't get that Ed doesn't have to use a transmutation circle because he went through the Door of Truth. The Blind Wave guys themselves still don't get that, and it was pretty much laid out in episode 2.

This is the reason why you want to watch the original before brotherhood, even though brotherhood is better. Because although most of the first 20 episodes of fullmetal alchemist are filler, they really build up the relationship between the boys and Hughes and makes this moment 10000x sadder :(

Kit's Not Using KZbin Are you joking? Brotherhood is definitely not better. The original FMA is way better than FMAB.
@sophiefilo166 жыл бұрын
UsuallyInMotion FMAB has better plot execution. When FMA was made, they had to start making things up halfway through because the manga wasn't finished. As a result, a lot of stuff stopped making sense...
@jacobmonks37226 жыл бұрын
Sophie Filo Just binging through the series in about a week, FMA 03 never ceased to make sense. Obviously the reasons behind Hughes death are different, and the Lab 5 incident went in a completely different direction, but I think everything works well in itself. It's an interesting take on the series lore, even if it was technically finished before the original manga.
@jacobmonks37226 жыл бұрын
Also of the first 25 episodes (which equates to the first 10 episodes of Brotherhood), there are only about 5 filler episodes. The one with the ghost town, the 2 with the false Elric brothers (and to be fair they do become a plot point later on), the one with the bandit heists, and there's probably one I'm missing. Everything else plays out in roughly the same manner as in the manga. It also has things Brotherhood does not but the Manga does. The train hostage episode is the canon introduction to Mustang, the Youswell incident is part of 03, but not Brotherhood (and yet Yoki is much more significant in Brotherhood, wrap your head around that), and Fullmetal vs Flame, which is probably my favorite episode ever.
@jacobmonks37226 жыл бұрын
In fact, Brotherhood technically has an episode that is completely filler, that being Isaac the Freezer. Nothing about this episode has any bearing on the plot and it is a very lackluster introduction to some of our favorite characters.
