Be warned. This is how you raise a smart ass. I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when I called a classmate gay (using historical definition), a teacher (or parent, it happened in the cafeteria) demanded i apologize because Tim (classmate) didn't know the historical definition and I refused because it wasn't my fault that a classmate (same age and grade) didn't know something. If his feelings were hurt, fault fell on the school and his parents so they should be the ones to apologize. i refused to accept any blame when I held no guilt and "just following orders" is never an acceptable reason to do something you know is morally wrong or illegal (lying in this case). My mom's job as head of the school district's special education department and as a union board member is probably the only reason I didn't get smacked by that adult. LMAO

I remember a classmate dyed her hair green in mourning when Jim Henson died. The Gifted and Talented teacher complimented her on her creativity and it lead to a cultural impact discussion, which the GT teacher used to tie into the current lesson... but the very next class teacher (i don't remember the class) gave the same girl detention for class disruption. It really is amazing how differently teachers react to the same thing.

I am appalled at the kilometer "teacher's" response. You should never expect students to blindly accept everything you say without question. Sure, the kid could have handled it better, but if the teacher is giving grossly incorrect information to the class and a student knows better, they should speak up. They just should do so in a polite manner. That "teacher" has no business teaching. That so called teacher is why home school is a thing. Also, what kind of teacher is teaching a class where students are working on computers and has never heard of Firefox and can't even get the name right?

At one point I slipped and someone called me a p***y and I lashed my hand out and I “happened” to have it aimed just right to cut it in half. He was pissed, threatened to have me pay for it, etc. A teacher told him to get over it and just leave. But I was eventually was called to the principal’s office. I told what happened but kinda fudged it by saying that my hand was just happened to be pointed towards the cigarette. He probably knew I was fudging a bit but at the end he couldn’t say it but was proud and that cigarettes were banned in the school anyway. It was more funny and justifying than anything else. She has her master's, as well as several other degrees I can't remember! lol but she also taught ESL, even went to South America for over six months and lived with a family to immerse herself in their culture. Yes, I'm gushing because I adore her, she's the best thing that happened to my mom and they've been together since 1994!💜 Anyway... She would be appalled at that typed letter to the parents. For one, it's extremely impersonal and harsh and two? She was wrong and het student knew it! She barely glosses over that fact and then demands that the student obey her and never challenge her again, regardless? Bullshit! My mom would want to know if she made a mistake, take ownership and thank her student for catching it! *Not* punish them. What a horrid teacher! Seems to me she's only in it to get that little power trip of she's in control of her little kingdom and what she says goes! Don't dare defy her! I hope she retired very soon after that. I just found this guy. My stomach hurts from laughing so much, and I'm a teacher! BTW if I made a stupid mistake and a student caught it, I would praise them, say thank you, and point out that teachers make mistakes too. On write up I was forced to do that still makes me chuckle: we were doing standardized testing. A student entered the room (late) and Immediately goes "morning F^&$ers!" To this day, I can't tell you why I find that so funny, but I do. In fact, when I meet with teachers that know this story for happy hour, that's become our standard greeting.

That mile vs Kilometer one reminds of when I used the word Misogyny in class in Grade 9 and my teacher who apparently had a PhD was fighting me tooth-and-nail on the word being a figment of my imagination to cause a disruption in her class. Finally, she said, "sure, you can go look for that imaginary dictionary definition on your way to detention!" So, I got up, logged onto one of the computers for students and within four seconds she went from cocky & confident to deer-in-headlights & embarrassed.

She said "if you are paying attention you can repeat everything I said" I repeated what she said back to her, and she also had a deer in the headlights look and said "well you shouldn't be reading in class" Couple days later the principal had a chat with me and my mom and told her I should move up a grade. I went to a private school that would get us to read books as a whole class with big words and if you struggled with a word or didn’t know the word it became a word on your spelling list. Now I have a habit of using words that are unexpected (so I am told) . I don’t realize I am using words other people don’t use often. But my older sister absolutely loves to point it out when I do. My friends do it too… I have gotten in so many arguments with people saying im using a word wrong or it’s not a real word and I’m 95% right. Occasionally I am wrong but not often. Once I referred to a pyer of wood and my bf and his buddy laughed at me saying it’s not a word. They said a pier and a pile are words for what I was thinking they were so sure they almost convinced me I was wrong. I didnt think that was an uncommon word… im not a characteristically smart person so when I use uncommon words it just throws people off.

It wasn't "IM (as in I'm or I am) conversation with other", it was IM (as in Instant Messaging). AND Justin/Justina's infraction was in 2017. Get with the times, teachers!! If Justin wants to be Justina or Justina wants to be Justin, then so be it! - Although that's parent's response was priceless! What do you want to bet there was a meeting w/the school officials over that one. More power to Alex!! How dare a teacher punish a child for correcting them (when they actually are wrong). The teacher should have thanked Alex for pointing out the error. This measurement element is used on a number of tests and the children could have missed it b/c of the teacher's instance on being "respected" rather than being "correct". If I were Alex's parent, there would have been a face to face meeting after this one. All three of my children are out of school and starting families now, but I remember the stupidity of some of the detention notes - much like some of these. One of my boys got detention for saying "freaking" because the teacher just knew in her heart and soul that he meant "f'ing" when he said "freaking". He hadn't even heard the F Word at that point until he got detention for it (it was elementary school). Thank you elementary school for teaching my son the F-Word!! BTW - This was a KZbin suggestion. Never seen you before. Loved the Detention Notes, but you were by far the most entertaining thing on this video. Had to pause it several times to stop and laugh at YOU! Great job!

If my kid comes home saying that they had a detention for being who they are or correcting an answer that you know that's correct but insist that wrong answer anyways, then we have a problem. Just because that you are an adult and/or someone with authority doesn't mean that you are correct all the time. You are human and humans can be wrong sometimes. Schools need to stop that mentality of "my way or the highway". Because it's really damaging. You are not always right. That's ok. It's ok to be wrong. It's ok to make mistakes. Because that we're humans. What's not ok is conforming students into boxes when I know that my child is like a trapezoid, rather than a square. What's not ok is making that there's no room for mistakes in a school setting. Showing that adults can make mistakes doesn't lost their authority. Rather humanize them in the child's eye. *Sorry for the rant. End rant, also editing: grammar.*

i also don't understand how you punish a student for what they wear to school, especially in elementary school, like the parent didnt see them walk out the house. its obvious the teacher is choosing to be ignorant to how the child identifies, cis or trans, and at that point i would just remove my child

@@fireblade295 Betting she's an actual girl. I had a friend in my school named Justina. Just dumb of the school to decide how kids dress anyway. Traditionally, girls wear dresses and skirts but for some reason, it's not cross dressing to wear pants? Why not let boys wear dresses and skirts? Equal opportunity and the clothes don't determine the chromosomal sex. Let them wear what they want and like (within reason) and let it go.
