Is there a way to combine the convenience of the thin extrude with the wrapping ability of the emboss command?

I can't tell fully from the view but it looks like the emboss has caused a twist in the protruding design around the cylindrical face. Could this be countered using a very thin emboss and then using the offset face command?

I went to test this out. Instead of creating a very thin emboss, I split out the embossed logo as a separate body and used it as a splitting tool to split the face of the cylinder. After that, I performed an offset face. As far as I can tell, there is no difference. Both the offset face command and the emboss command produces extrudes normal to the surface, so this is not a surprise. I think this twist is a natural result of the wrapping combined with the normal extrusion of the surface that emboss produces.

What's funny is yesterday I was just pondering if there was a way to make a sketch from a face, without having to redraw it. And your video popped up in my feed, providing the answer in an unrelated problem. Thank you.

One of my favorite fusion channels. Please can you do some emboss tutorial on spheres or modeling on sphere surfaces. Very little on KZbin.

Thank you. In my end screen, I linked to a video that I did some time ago. The method is not the best but I think the overall concept is still relevant. You might want to take a look.

Thanks for this presentation. One point to add is that the free ends of the helix are remaining little bit shorter with thin extrude. I think another fixing step could be added to the projction scetch to allign it with the angle. Just an opinion :). Again many thanks for your efforts and great videos!

I just noticed that too. Thanks for pointing this out. It might be better to extend the original sketch by the thin extrude thickness to compensate.

Thank you for sharing your know-how I tried this solution without success with a rectangular tube and a coil around the tube I think you are able to solve this problem

Great Video, Thank you. How would this be done if the cylinder is tapered, (44mm to 50mm, total length 250mm), with debossed channels every 45 degrees? I am able to deboss a channel every 90 degrees, but not every 45 degrees? I am creating an extension tube for my Shop Vac. Pattern command works using the "feature" type, but deboss will not accept once I angle the sketch 45 degrees?

Thanks for sharing this. Can Fusion wrap a whole pattern seamlessly around a flower pot shaped cylinder. Bottom smaller than top?
@Fusion360School

That sounds like embossing on a cone. It is possible, but the emboss tends to curve in a awkward way because of the conical shape. If you do a search, there are videos out there that have workarounds, I think.

Hi, I've tried this but the sketch was .dwx and didn't work. It was supposed to cover the cylinder but at some point, it doesn't show the pattern. Does anybody know what can I do? Thank you.
