On the note of "plastic on plastic vs polycaps", I've also noticed that plastic on plastic joints seem to hold up better if I just leave them in a pose on a shelf compared to polycaps, but they also seem to loosen up way faster if I'm handling and re-posing them repeatedly.
@First-Name_Last-Name2 күн бұрын
@@arpkahn670 yep. Hard plastic on hard plastic is even worse. The non-gunpla HG Kyoukai Senki kits joints is best example. Build it, pose it, but don't try to play with it. The joints rubs together too much and will wear faster compared to soft plastic or polycaps.
@TheSickening1Күн бұрын
Yeah, the kits with polycaps are mostly pretty nice to play with, but can be hard to hold a pose. The opposite happens with plastic on plastic, like my witch from mercury kits, everytime I pose them, I carefully move the joints till they are not squeaky before trying anything else
@NeoSlashottКүн бұрын
I have same plastic to plastic issue with my 1/144 HG Overflag when hip ball joints' plastic surface just wear and tear becoming not grippy anymore. But anyways, other figures with stable plastics has the tiny creak sound meaning it has good grip.

The Dijeh is genuinely one of my favorite mobile suit designs to have come out of Zeta, a show filled to the brim with amazing MS designs. The HG also happens to be one of my favorite HGs too, so glad you enjoyed building my beloved baby!
@arpkahn6702 күн бұрын
I'd really strongly suggest checking out some of the older HGs from Zeta at some point, especially the Asshimar (transforming donut boy). Some of them are really old (dating back to the mid 00s to coincide with AoZ and the Zeta New Translation movies) but the engineering is really unique and way ahead of its time, a fair few of the transforming ones managed to fully work their transformations in without parts swaps, and its obvious whoever was designing them REALLY loved Zeta.
@danielk9906Күн бұрын
As someone who has a lot of Zeta HGs i agree, and the asshimar is the definition of "old but gold" solid and quick transformation and pretty good looking kit. But fair warning, some suits like the gaplant are really fragile because of their long and sleek design and said transformation. Mine had a broken upper arm part out of the box (my only broken part to date) and its front skirt broke also when i bent it with one finger to pose...

Deffo a cool challenge, but for me building kits is a total escape . My PG Exia took over a month of tinkering for me. I would cut out the parts, for the arms(etc) a 4pack of beer and just get to cutting/scribing and de-nubbing. While i didn't paint it i did a lot of scribing and panel lining.. It was the 1st kit i decided to finish in 3 tone top coat and it pop's so much, it's my fave build to date. Ty for being an awesome voice in this community and inspiring people to check out this hobby! cheers =^)
@fattiger69572 күн бұрын
When you say 3 tone top coat, do you mean matte, gloss and satin? That's very interesting. I usually gloss coat inner frames and matte the armour plates on my MGs. I never tried doing satin as well.
@DonMeneloКүн бұрын
@fattiger6957 I do the exact opposite ^^ full matt frame, then mask it and do gloss on any pipes and hydraulics. Then i look what the main color on the armor is and do it in gloss, the main white also gloss and the accents in matt or high gloss so it looks more pronounced depending on the kit.
@fattiger6957Күн бұрын
@@DonMenelo I admired your dedication. I absolutely hate masking. I do it when I have to, but try to avoid it. Though getting some liquid mask has helped quite a lot since masking tiny spots with tape frustrates me to no end. I actually really like the effect that a matte finish has on armour. I dunno, it somehow makes the kits stand out more when the light reflection is defused. It's also really nice when the joints pop when light does reflect off them. I am going to try something different and candy coat the Sazabi ver ka I'm currently working on. It's a technique I've never done before, but I'm excited to try. Maybe I will matte the black parts to get some contrast in the textures.

I think the idea of rushing a build kinda defeats the purpose of the build Building for me is a very relaxing and even cathartic experience maybe, so i rather enjoy every minute every time. Even several copies of a same kit i tend to enjoy taking my time building (like the zakus and GM i army-built). I think trying to beat a tight timelimit would make it more stressful than relaxing Nevertheless, there are indeed some kits that are possible to build in less than an hour. The GM is such a simple kit i think even my first build took less than an hour. Honestly after so many units i've built, even the GTO GM could be rushed into less than one hour if i wanted to. Probably older HGUC zakus could be easily built under such time. Still, why rushing the experience anyways?

I don't think I've ever quite gotten an HG down to an hour, but I've gotten pretty close (I think 90 mins) on some builds that were on the simpler end and/or familiar to me (i.e. built similar kits before). I think an hour is doable if you're being real quick and dirty, maybe even resort to single snipping everything. Also I absolutely love the Dijeh. I'd never seen or heard of it before I grabbed the HG a few years ago, but now its one of my all time favorite designs, and aside from a few small things the HG is a superb representation of it. The articulation on this kit is also a LOT better than the RE100 despite them not being too different in age.

They do end up throwing their beam rifles away quite a lot in Zeta if I remember right. So Dijeh and Hyaku not having a rifle storage spot kinda makes sense. Also I can't help but enjoy the design of Dijeh, it's like a Gelgoog and a Zaku got mixed together and then they slapped Sailfish sails on it

HG's "Dijeh" is cool. However, at 6:49 in this video, the red part on the abdomen is referred to as the "cockpit hatch" during assembly, but that is incorrect; the Dijeh's cockpit hatch is actually located on the left side of the head. It is the same as the original "Rick Dias".

I can't really gauge how long it takes me to finish an HG. Usually when I get home after work I'll start working on one section like the torso, a leg, or an arm, removing nubs as carefully as I can and painting some details. Then I come back either the next day or a few days later and work on another section. So it can vary from a few days to over a week, depending on how much time I have available as well as my state of mind. And that's for HGs! MGs and RGs naturally take even longer. No wonder I still have around 20 kits in my backlog LOL
@Annikai2 күн бұрын
I have the re100 of that. It's not bad, basically just a giant high grade.
@andrelouro18622 күн бұрын
Also, i've never really understood the hate on polycaps. My very first build in life was a MG RX-78-2 OYW more than 10 years ago (best MG gramps ever btw and i will die on that hill) and it still holds damn well and tight like a champ here despite the occasional play and posing. I think the same way a polycap might get loose if you move it oh so much, a plastic on plastic would as well due to the friction between pieces. Even ages-old kit like some no-grades GM Command and a no-grade Alex from the late 80's i've built last year still hold well despite being old prints. I really REALLY don't get this polycap hate
