Theorists, have you ever wanted to fly? Not Superman fly, but soar on a pair of wings like, well, a Phoenix? In the amazing new game Immortals Fenyx Rising, your character gets to do just that. She is a winged warrior out to defeat mythological monsters on her quest to rescue the Gods. Fenyx's wings are VERY similar to those Daedalus made for Icarus in the famous Greek myth. We all know how that turned out. What I want to figure out today is if a human can really fly with a pair of wings and HOW that would need to work to not end up crashing to the earth like Icarus. Let's FLY!

This feels like old school game theory and I love it Bummed insect wings weren't mentioned though. Adding a second pair of wings and swapping out feathers for membranes changes up the whole equation, and seeing as dragonflies have had pretty much the same wing design for around 300 million years, it could make for an interesting discussion.

Also bats. They're a mammal to boot so it could give an idea of how flight and wings can work with some aspects of our biology. Not everything, cause far as I know we're completely unrelated genetically apart from that minor genetic trait, but still there's potential.

The way I heard the story of deadalus is that the kings wife basically said" hey deadalus im more beautiful than Aphrodite (the goddess of beauty)." And do deadalus said "oh yeah sure whatever you say" so Aphrodite got angry and made the queen fall for the bull. I didn't know there were multiple variatons of the story.
@wiiink
@wiiink Жыл бұрын
well it's kind of a mix of both versions, Poseidon was upset that Minos kept the bull so he had tricked Aphrodite into getting involved by saying Minos's wife was calling herself more beautiful. Daedalus was only involved because he was the one that built the cow disguise for the queen to seduce the bull with, and that's why he was imprisoned in the labyrinth.

Well, Hawks has pretty big wings and most importantly full control over every single feather of his even when it's not attached to the body, which would imply, that he doesn't need to exert any physical power to make his wings flap, but rather some sort of telekinetic/electromagnetic/whatever power, that is apparently strong enough, to make a single feather able to carry a human body. So, yeah, I'd say he should be able to. ;)

@@kittymischief1449 Well, in that episode from season 4 where he and Endeavor fight that noumu, he rescues all the people in the building with his feathers, so apparently even one feather is enough to lift a human body and all of them can apparently fly without him moving a single muscle (would look kinda awkward if he had to move something for every feather xD). So, he probably doesn't need to "flap" his wings at all to fly, as he obviously uses some sort of telekinesic/electromagnetic power to move them, which would also explain a scene from earlier in that episode (or the episode before that actually, but same "mini-arc" xD), where he hovers in one place over the podium, after being congratulated as number 2 hero, while he flaps his wings like every 5 minutes or so and doesn't even seem to create any sort of wind, as the people beneath him show no signs of wind on their clothing or hair. TL;DR: Hawks can control his wings telecinetically and doesn't even need to flap them, so it doesn't matter how the rest of his body is build, as long as he can focus and sustain his energy long enough. xD

No, I don’t have a dedicated team and huge company sponsoring me to make high production value 15minutes edutainment shows. But I also don’t need all that to know to stay consistent. For example, if you acknowledge the existence of “the god of sea and storm” and “an ox headed giant humanoid” in a world, you shouldn’t criticise said world for having different depiction of the sun from the real world. You already know it’s Greek mythology world, so of course the “sun” isn’t referring to the astronomical object. No, it refers to the flaming chariot ridden by Helios or Apollo, flying across the sky which is held up by Atlas. So of course Icarus can melt his wing wax if he flies too close to a flaming chariot.

@@q-miiproductions878 We aren't talking about non-magic ones. We're talking about a fictional world where magic exists based loosely on mythology. Your excuse for his oversight negates his hummingbird explanation, anyway, because motors powerful enough to flap wings large enough to carry a human as quickly as a hummingbird would weigh far too much. Handheld rockets would weigh much less and be much more effective at achieving the necessary thrust for human flight. There's a reason that we don't use motorized propellers for long-distance air travel. Their thrust to weight ratio is abysmal when compared to rockets.

Hey theorists. I, a fellow theorist, have a theory regarding the dry-bones and dry-bowser. It’s a bit long, but I hope you guys enjoy! Most people who like Mario may know that dry-bones and dry-bowser have different skull shapes than their living counterparts. These differences are at the eye sockets and the and jaws. I believe that this is evolution. And that these reanimated corpses are the work of magic koopas. The “beak” of the dry-bone’s has three extra teeth on the side, yet koopas, strangely have no teeth in this area. The beaks of these skeletons are bigger overall. This could be the koopa troopa’s evolving to be more peaceful since Mario appeared. They begin this change in Super Mario 64 where Mario races koopa the quick, and all koopa troop as in that game don’t attack unless provoked. Now on to dry bowser. Dry bowser has the same situation with the eyes but the snout, well, isn’t a snout. It’s a beak. This could show that this is a race of koopas evolving to where you could differentiate the royal class from the lower ranks. Here’s the kicker. I theorize that dry-bowser... is bowsers father. We know that within shorts spans of time, the ruler toads can evolve to have different features, such as peach and peachette. (check out matpat’s video about that) Dry bowser has also has a different hair style than bowser. Bowser has a sort of Mohawk-mullet while dry-bowser has a pony-tail. So the lore. Dry bowser died by the army of toads when king toadstool ruled. This left him trapped in the ruins of a castle. This takes place before Yoshi’s Island and explains the absence of bowser’s father. He sat in the vat of lava for about 2-3 decade’s until bowser junior scared for his fathers life, used kamek’s magic to resurrect dry bowser when his father died. He took the time to find a reverse his father’s death. Dry bowser is now locked up in the magma of the mushroom Kingdom waiting to be released until his own son calls upon him. I know that bowser turns into dry bowser in New Super Mario Bros, but I’ll interpret that as dry bowser being awakened and bowser dying. Some side notes. Dry bowser’s fire is blue because of more experience to heat, bowser named his son bowser jr. to continue the chain of bowsers, and dry bowser is bowser senior. “But wait!”, you may say, “Bowser jr. puts dry bowsers bones in a in a cauldron, and and mega bowser (which is just bowser but a bit bigger) pops out.” I have come up with a solution. Bowser jr. used dry bowser’s soul to help reconstruct bowser. This could mean that dry bowser’s soul was used to make bowser stronger and it was later taken out of bowser reverting him to his regular form, and in turn reviving dry bowser. But hey that’s just a theory, a game theory, let’s hope matpat sees this

I asked my father to get this game for me for my birthday as a result of watching this video. I was watching this video when it came out and thought "This game sounds interesting and I like Greek mythology. I want this game". I love this game so much. I have 400+ hours of gameplay spanning almost 3 years.😂

I've read the Percy Jackson series and that just made me love mythology. Now that Ubisoft made a game about it, I'm hooked.
