I wanted to play the sequel of cod4 (MW2) on a console, but didn't have one so played it on the PC, but had to wait 2 months after release to get it, which was back in early 2010. Before I got it I simply watched some cod gameplay on youtube, which I did since middle 2009 after having played cod4 at my friends house. So I got stuck to some ytchannels. But I always wanted a gaming pc since BC2 came out, because that game had high quality pc recommendations at its time for most to play it. I think many people built a propper gaming PC just to run the overhyped Battlefield 3 back in 2011. Also the other reason is getting the games themselfes, guides, news, matches.

Some people can't physically play sports. Yet, anybody can play video games. Like Jimmy said before, watching other people play video games is like watching someone play Fanduel(fantasy football) I understand Jimmy's point and I am a gamer. It is a shame that some gamers would let a comedian get under their skins. No wonder people mock the community.
@evangelionmann9 жыл бұрын
SuperVince93 so it becomes more interesting because you are watching someone do something that you cant do? i dont buy it... i cant do a hand stand but id only be entertained by someone doing one for about a minute. this goes beyond a simple fascination of seeing something being done that most people cant accomplish. that may be PART of it.,... but thats not the main reason why people watch it. and its DEFINTILY not the reason why they KEEP watching it
@PokemonTrainerVince9 жыл бұрын
Michael Mann True but it is a big part of the reason. Watching a man like Michael Jordan score 60 points against 5 other big men was jaw-dropping to say the least. People love seeing the improbable happen. Why do people watch an artist paint? Why do people watch a singer sing? My answer: Because watching someone do an activity that requires their own spin on it is always interesting to folks.
@evangelionmann9 жыл бұрын
+SuperVince93 true. still, I find sports boring, yet I enjoy watching someone play videogames.... I think the other main reason people watch is because they enjoy being able to witness something they understand. I don't play sports.... so I don't watch them.... because I don't know what's going on. but with video games I do, and I enjoy watching other peoples attempts at it. maybe that's just me.
@LexieLouLou9 жыл бұрын
What Jimmy STILL does not understand is that most video media involves watching other people do things... Why watch professional sports when you could play them? Why watch other people apply makeup when you could be doing it to yourself? Why watch other people have sex when you could be having sex? We watch for entertainment, to learn, or to live vicariously through others. Watching Let's Plays is usually for entertainment, though some of us are living vicariously because we can't afford to buy every console, an amazing gaming PC, and tons of games on top of that! I thought the original video was not only disrespectful, but pitifully researched. Twitch is gaming streaming site that has been around for YEARS, but they only mention KZbin's new streaming service? I would have preferred an apology, or a proper interview with the gamers over this "educational" joke of a video. TL;DR I'll stick with Jimmy Fallon, who features video games during his show occasionally and is generally more entertaining.
@Symplasia9 жыл бұрын
Your comparisons are pretty poor, in all honesty. I agree that it's silly to say watching people play games when you can play them is stupid, because it's giving people who otherwise wouldn't be able to experience it a chance, even if I don't like LPs myself. Although with that comes the people sharing their opinions of a game they haven't played, but that's a different topic.

+Sympleasya sorry that the go to response on youtube is to call someone u dont agree with stupid. i apologize for that person. let me try to explain a bit more. there are lots of reasons to watch let's plays/guides/walkthroughs. here are some: you are unable to purchase the game or a console to play it on but still want to see gameplay footage. you own the game but are stuck on a certain part and want to watch how to progress. You like watching other people fail at games. it is funny when someone jumps at a horror game or keeps dying in GTA. You find the way the let's player plays funny/entertaining. maybe they have a certain way of doing things like shoot first and ask questions later and you can't wait to see what they'll do next you find their commentary funny and treat the video more like a podcast. you are looking for a new game you haven't heard of and the video tells you if its worth buying or you just really like watching people play video games and that's okay. let's not shame other people's likes (unless its illegal). :D
@Symplasia9 жыл бұрын
scifigeek14 You don't need to apologise for other people being dicks on the internet. Like I said, though, I don't agree with calling people stupid for watching others play games on the internet. There are a lot of great people in the gaming community, including very well educated people, celebrities, politicians, doctors, successful business owners, etc. No one that I know personally were leaving nasty comments here like those Jimmy featured in his recent episodes. It's the internet though, you can pull that kind of hate from any large community if you really make an effort to poke the beehive. Also, I don't think throwing Jimmy into Rocket League was the best decision, something like a sidescroller or remake of a classic would have been a lot easier for him to pick up. To me it doesn't seem as though anything was actually talked about in this video. The gamers never truly got a chance to explain the importance of the community that comes with the videos. Mark managed to get a few things in, and the girl, who I'm not I'm not familiar with, managed to show the video, but that was all that was put in before Jimmy tried to set the two up. It was really just disrespectful. They took the time to be there; he should have given them the time to actually answer the question.

the whole deal probably was that they went there to actually and genuinely try to make things understandable between jimmy and the whole gaming community but all jimmy did was blow them off and be a douche and then tried to "set them up" which made it a million times worse, I think they felt like jimmy didn't take them serious enough. which is the same problem with almost every one else that doesn't understand the gaming community they don't take us serious because of what we do
@SargentFraser9 жыл бұрын
+Lauren Kinsey An in-depth explanation of what Let's Plays are and why it attracted so much attention probably wouldn't be good television, especially something like Jimmy Kimmel's show. Understanding or letting the players explain the phenomenon wasn't on Kimmel's agenda, his agenda was to make something he found entertaining and might get a few laughs from his audience. Personally, I don't care what he thinks about the Let's Play phenomenon, what does bother me is the huge backlash of hate the gaming community leashed out and how he showed it to his audience. It makes us look bad and immature and makes it even harder for us to get out of that toxic community stereotype. Both are at fault (Kimmel for focusing mainly on that and the gamers who did send threats), but if the gamer community wouldn't have been so butthurt over one guy's opinion, then he wouldn't have the ammo to make us look bad. I will say I found Mark handled himself really well and I think most people will understand better thanks to him.
@EMan7539 жыл бұрын
+Lauren Kinsey Mark said that there was a lot that was cut out of the segment, and they talked for like 30 minutes. They probably got to the deeper parts of Let's Plays in there. Jimmy was making jokes for his comedy show - his sense of humor clearly didn't mix with the others and it left a couple of awkward transitions, but I really didn't get any spiteful taste from this like everyone else is going on and on about.
@rinkin90749 жыл бұрын

I feel like maybe you're reading into some of these a little too much. On some of the hand gesture ones he could've been popping his knuckles or just doing stuff with his hands like we all do without thinking. Some of the laughs and facial expressions could be perceived as genuine, normal, or not uncomfortable. Yes, a case could be made to say that he was uncomfortable, but, with the exception of the ending, there's not enough evidence for Markiplier to be considered uncomfortable or annoyed in some of these timestamps.

Jimmy, I watched this because my daughter watches Mark, and while it is not my favorite thing, I get why she watches. I often watch you, because I appreciate your satire of the current political situation. You aren't her favorite thing, but she gets why I watch your monologue. I sat down to watch this thinking I would enjoy seeing this introduction, but I have to say: you should be ashamed. I don't know why you thought it was okay to constantly discuss sex with a female gamer, or make this about orgasms. Do you have any idea the kind of harassment that women gamers face? Research, so you can stop being a part of it. Both of these gamers behaved with better humor and more maturity than you did in this clip up to 5:44. I had to stop there because I would like to keep watching your monologue, and I really wanted to slap you for this segment. This was 5 years ago, so hopefully, you have learned since then. Hopefully, you have apologized. But the internet is forever, and I am not surprised at all that you are still getting comments on this. One last thing: Do you play football? Do you ever watch football? Why do you bother watching a bunch of people risk their brains and bodies for your entertainment? They play the game way better than you do, so what's the point? And just to be in line with your own questioning: Do you want to have sex with them? Have you tried? Why wouldn't you? Yeah, think about - if you ever read this. Which I admit is doubtful.

And i gotta say, that sex joke was VERY inappropriate, considering that mark was talking about charitys, meetup with fans, and out of nowhere, he starts talking about having sex with them, and THAT was not funny at all. I really discriminate this people who mocks someone because they do what they love and makes money out of it. And failed as a parent??? What kind of parent doesn't want their kids to enjoy the lives they have. Well its really good to know that someone actually understand why people enjoy stuff. Haaaaaa

They all have the same purpose, to entertain the viewers. Entertainment is something we all need in our lives. So, Jimmy has no right to say "watching gaming videos is a waste of time" However, some of these hate comments are childish, seriously.

Jimbo, I'm not going to stoop to calling you an idiot, or more appropriately: irrelevant. BUT, I am going to call you out on your incessantly ignorant behavior by deducing the entire gaming community to a bunch of "angry 12 year olds". There are plenty of legitimate reasons to watch someone play a game, *if you like video games in the first place*. Apparently you just don't like games, so you wouldn't understand. A few perfectly valid reasons to watch someone play video games: 1. Old media is dying and people don't want to pay to watch increasingly irrelevant celebrities talk to people like you, and THEN deal with commercials. 2. Someone might genuinely enjoy watching a particularly entertaining personality. 3. Someone might want to get better at a competitive game like LoL or CSGO (watching pros is the best way to do this). 4. Someone is going through depression and wants to find instant pleasure. The truth of the matter is that NEW media is replacing OLD and whether you like it or not, times are a' changin'. Just because YOU don't understand something doesn't make it fact, so quit presenting it that way. +jimmykimmel

+Suprise Attack I think this is really what makes it so awkward. Mark and Mae's humor is spontaneous and unscripted, and their appeal comes from how genuine they are. Jimmy's humor is that "scripted late-night host" humor, which when juxtaposed with them comes across as awkward, out of touch, and very fake. Jimmy didn't seem to have a clue as to what to do with them, so he just barreled in and did what he knew best. He never opened up enough or let the situation become organic enough for their humor to really shine, and also by not opening up he comes across as very patronizing and just as ignorant as when he started. He wasn't willing to drop his late-night host persona, which makes this whole thing feel pointless because while he said he did it to become educated, he didn't let them take the reins and educate him.

Markiplier was so uncomfortable around Jimmy. You could tell that Mark really didn't respect him even when he was at his show. Honestly, I don't blame him. Kimmel really looks down on Mark and Mae and talks to them like their aliens or something. Kimmel's jokes throughout the video weren't even funny, just random spouts about telling them to have "real human interaction once in a while." As if Mark and Mae don't have real friends or a life. Which is completely untrue. I don't watch "Let's Play's" all the time, but I enjoy it for many reasons.... 1. I like the commentators, like Markiplier or Pewds 2. They play games I don't get the chance to play and I'm curious about them 3. It reminds me of the days when I would watch my big brother play and get excited as he beat the game. The truth is this, Kimmel...Mark sitting behind a desk playing games for a living is not much different than myself and others in the insurance industry (or most office industries) because we (I) too sit behind a desk and click around on a computer screen for 8 hours a day. And if Mark does "Let's Plays" with other people with him, he honestly gets just as much human interaction as a lot of office workers in America (Canada, Mexico...Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, etc). The only thing good Jimmy did was put links to Mark and Mae's channels. Other than that, he was very disrespectful and not in the "comedic" way he tried to justify it. I hope this was clear enough.

Sports: Watching somebody play a game = Expected KZbin: Watching somebody play a game = Unacceptable

People say that cause they won't people to play sports so they get inspired by watching it to play the sport! while watching gamers they don't want kids go and get addicted to bad games like cod and Minecraft

the difference is that: in sports or in any other in person activity, there is a direct interaction between the people which is good. when you watch that it is ok. in video games there is an indirect interaction between the players (sometimes there isnt any interaction at all especially with single player games). this activity is ok but when you watch it, it becomes silly and a waste of time.

theiflord12350 its silly and a waste of time to you, but that doesn't mean it's a fact. you have an opinion, but you cant say that it's correct.

+Bikram Singh no im saying that playing any in-person activity is direct human 2 human interaction while playing a non-local or single player video game is less interaction. watching anything makes everything a more indirect activity since you are merely watching what others do and then talking about it in your respective community. all im saying is that indirect + indirect = 2indirect4me. sports is like: indirect + direct = (meh you could do better by playing it yourself). I don't really support watching anything you could do yourself (unless youre unskilled) but i do understand what jimmie means when he says watching video games is 1 more step removed from watching sports.

theiflord12350 have you ever watched anybody do anything? then you're unskilled. have you seen somebody breathe? then you're unskilled. it has nothing to do with being unskilled, and we could play the games but we'd rather watch somebody elses experiences. we dont want to see the game only the way we play it, we want to be opened to different strategies, playing styles, and different paths within the game.
