As a South African Biltong and Droewors is our Favourite snack. I would choose it as my last meal if I could. You do get variety such as yellow Fat Biltong and Chilli bites. We can also choose either wet, medium or dry biltong and droewors depending on what you prefer. Its only that dry to preserve it for a long time. Rusk are usually dipped into to coffee and tea to soften it. Koeksisters is a fried dough that is twisted into a plait and after frying is soaked in a syrup. Thanks for this video. It was awesome.

As a South African, I loved your take on everything. If you have any of the snacks left, you may want to alter the way you consume some of them to get the best out of them. Rusks are amazing dunked into coffee (my preference is latte) because it takes away the hard crunch and if you get the sweet spot, it's a little crunchy and not total mush. The Peppermint Crisp also requires special instructions. Bite the ends off and use it as a straw for a glass of milk. The milky mint taste is yummy. Those koeksisters also don't look the freshest. It's deep fried plaited dough which is then soaked in syrup. When fresh, they're kind of crunchy on the outside while being squishy on the inside. Textural sure, but so tasty and sure to contribute towards obesity and diabetes, lol. The dried fruit in ZA is amazing and I highly recommend guava roll. Oh and pink Fizzers are the only Fizzers worth eating. You need dinner with some South Africans, because yes, those are all great long shelf life snacks but the cooked food is amazing. Puddings, stews, barbecued veggies. Adopt a South African and eat like a king! 😂

This was VERY rewarding to watch as a South African, I haven't laughed this much in a long time!!!😂😂 So much to unpack here but most importantly: 1. Droewors & Biltong should be wet & fatty (yellow fat) - it'll make you swear off Beef Jerkey for life. 2. When you said rusks are for babies and it dissolves in their mouths it SENT me 😂😂😂 Dip it in your tea or coffee . 3. Bite off both ends of the Peppermint Crisp and use it as a straw to drink milk (only psychopaths eat it straight-up)😂 4. Creme Soda must be ice cold and served with ice and is the BEST for hangovers! 5. Eat more of the koeksister (pronounced cook sister), one bite doesn't do it justice. Overall though,this was spectacular! Next up: Malva pudding & custard, Milktart, Ghost Pops, Boerewors Roll, Brandy & Coke, Black Label beer & a Braai Broodtjie...actually....just come to South Africa and we'll show you! 🤙🍻

To: @JulesC-w5m - Ha, ha! Mint Cracknel. Thank you so much. The description of the sweet reminded me very much of that but I couldn't think of the name. I absolutely loved it and then like so many others it disappeared. I seem to remember the 'shards' were 'soft' but seemed to gently 'explode' into a delicious mint flavour. Close in experience to a sparkling, crunchy and longer-lasting 'After Eight'.
@petermoody61474 ай бұрын
To:@@holymags2495- Ha, ha! Quite safe. Perhaps the word shard, reminds people of sharp glass. In a way it is quite descriptive in the imagery of glass but rather than sharp, jagged fragments the mint inside would 'crumble' into a multitude of tiny fragments rapidly, in the manner that car windscreens 'shatter' and crumble when broken. In fact the 'Cracknel' may have implied that it was similar to very fine 'shrapnel', in texture.

As a South African I feel that there were a few items left out. Mrs Balls chutney chips should definitely have been on the list. Anything milktart flavour. Wilson toffees, the original black ones. Definitely more original drink flavours like Lemon twist. They did hit the big ones with the biltong, Droewors, koeksister and rooibos. I'm glad you got to try it and glad you liked most of it. Fun fact: The koeksister is so popular in SA that there's even a koeksister statue in a town called Orania. The selling of koeksisters have long been a traditional and very popular way of fundraising to fund many projects like the building of churches, schools and many other projects. Rooibos is a tea indigenous to South Africa. I don't like it unless I have gastroenteritis but it's very popular here. Roy-bus is the closest I can think of for pronounciation. Koeksusters is as you said. Rusks are not for teething. Popular breakfast snack dipped in coffee. I eat them dipped and dry. We have lots of variants.

Great video, always cool to see people experiencing a part of out country! Droewors is often a lot less chewy when fresh, but those give the right idea of the taste, some people also put fancy spices in to give it different tastes. Thanks for the wonderful video 🇿🇦.

Friends went to South Africa and brought us back some biltong. It’s much better than beef jerky, softer and more interestingly spiced. I found a company in the USA that makes it called Brooklyn Biltong.
@annelieetsebeth18304 ай бұрын
The difference between biltong and jerky is that biltong is first cured and then dried, not just dried like jerky. You cure it with a vinegar and spice mix before hanging to dry, it's very easy to do yourself!

Love South African snacks. Big fan. Dry vors, biltong… My wife loves flings, Fanta grape, jelly tots, cook sisters and rusks Nik naks are cracking as well.

There is a special way to eat the peppermint crisp, you should bite the top and bottom ends off and then put one end in a glass of milk and use the Peppermint crisp bar as a straw, it's the best way to consume it

Droëwors is dried sausage - it's not like black/blood pudding - I can't cope with eating black pudding, but droëwors I have no problems whatsoever. Delicious! You also get different kinds, beef is most common, but you also get kudu (game buck) that's a bit softer because of a higher fat content. Good man, Garron, I'm proud of you for giving our snacks a proper go there!

The Koeksister is basically a doughnut soaked in a simple syrup. I love them when they come straight out of the freezer.

Rusks MUST be dunked! Preferably in coffee, but tea will do. Loved your reaction! So honest, so accurate. Koeksisters (pr. cook sisters) are just some sort of pastry grilled and dipped in an oleaginous sugary syrup. It contains approximately 175% sugar per weight.

7/10 - we’ve been cheated!! Rusks are for dunking. You liked quite a lot of our stuff. I’ve never had that coffee biscuit in my life and I’m a South African and a fan of snacks. Every cream soda not green is weird to me and Peppermint Crisp is the bomb! We need to make you a Peppermint Crisp tart. ❤ Biltong > Jerky

The cream soda is great for ice cream floats. You still have to have a milk tart as well. Plus boerewors is a must.

Pronunciations: Roy-boss Cooksisters And for the love of confectionery, dip the rusk in tea or coffee, man! Also you need to bite the ends off the peppermint crisp and use it as a straw to drink milk, like what the Aussies do with Tim Tams.

He won't get the pronounciation of rooibos from 'boss' because it's oo.. like from the word book but the Irish pronounce it do differently.
