Are the People entrapped or why anybody must go so near to the Fire ? Sorry for me that isn´t that Heroic.I hope he have not servere Injuries.But that is "What I have forget ,what I had leaned at Figherfightrer School and Training". Never standing in the "Dropshadow" of a Building. We have learned from beginning to avoid Working to near of Areas of a burning Building on a outside attack. Some of our German Supermarkets are Build with Glue Laminated Wood Contruction,holded by Metalhooks to the Wall. On a Fire those Hooks can´t hold long against the Heat and break. Result is a suddenly Collapse of the Roof without any Warning signs.

As soon as the video started I saw how the front of the building was cantilevered over the sidewalk. Something inside me wanted me to yell get back from the front of the building. When you are working a call listen to that little voice. It could save yourself or someone else life. I am the senior guy on my crew. Sometimes probationary hires ask me why I am hanging back.

Yeah, it really does seem like someone should have noticed that collapse zone, but I don't want to armchair quarterback. They did seem a bit short on manpower, and that makes for less eyes to see the big picture. But, like you stated Train, Train, TRAIN. Can't stress it enough. Training is key to situational awareness, and THAT is key to safety.

Massive thumbs up 👍 to them, thanks for posting this video, maybe some of those that denigrate and are confrontational when they get into trouble should watch this and realise how brave, dedicated, and selfless these men and women are, and start treating them with the respect that the vast majority deserve. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴

That's what happens when you don't post collapse lookouts with warning devices. Of course that gable was in danger of imminent collapse when all the integral roof structure has gone and the internal face of the gable has been subject to intense heat causing expansion on the internal face. No-one at all should have in the the collapse area. There are six causes of collapse due to for and at least three applied here - Expansion of internal face. Collapse of roof structure. Collapse of cracking of lintels. It is inherent, as firefighters we remember our building sciences and not get caught out unawares. The guy who got caught out was simply not paying attention in a dangerous situation. He wasn't even looking at the building. He, hopefully, won't make that mistake again in a hurry.

Screw the building Im glad that fireman OK!!!!!! My question is was no one concerned about the gas pumps blowing up and what caused the fire ??? It burned fast that whole place is destroyed
@legohead67 жыл бұрын
In real life gas pumps "blowing up" is extremely rare. Liquid gasoline doesnt explode, but rather just catches fire(rapidly yes, but its not an explosion). Also all modern pumps have emergency shutoffs that can be manually activated(if the attendant had any training this would likely have been done as they evacuated) and also smart detection that will automatically activate them when the computer thinks there is an issue. The storage tanks are usually steel and several feet underground, for safety and access they generally put them on the road side of the station under the parking lot. They wouldn't of even felt any heat in this fire.

Okay here's an answer from a former volunteer firefighter , most of the smaller volunteer companies are at a large deficit with funding , hence their communities who bestow such hero status upon them don't care enough to see to it that their fire services are supported properly , there is no requirement for any volunteer company to be funded , yet many communities do make contracts with the companies to support them partially , and then the company must fund raise to make up the balance , hence the local community fairs and carnivals put on by who? The local fire company is who ! When you see lack of training here it's from both lack of training and lack of funds , lack of funds is bad , but the training should still happen , here there was a failure of training , but as for the people being so close without protective gear , well we have rules here too , but life takes precedence over all others here , so if you are there and not in gear and see an opening to save someone from suffering , you just act , and sometimes without thought of your own full safety . We really do try here , and most volunteer fire fighters are good people who just need to serve and help and prevent suffering . So sometimes we make bad judgments . PS : I was a fire fighter and EMT and I can tell you the fire fighter who went down looked to be okay , but he was most likely burned by his ankles as well his blood pressure would have been through the roof , he was instantly useless to the company for the remainder of this fire , as he would need to be taken off the line , with just some slightly better fore thinking this might have been avoided , who knows , but that ragtag crew was down men and still got the job done , not bad they stayed the course , guess what though every volunteer company needs help !

@@timc333 thanks for the awnser! yeah its pretty bad with the not founded companys here we have also so many volunteer stations most likely small villages there have a trailer with equippment and get to the scene with a Tractor (its really true look up Tragkraftspritzenanhänger here on youtube) or got a unit from 50 years ago thats totally normal here to a vollunteer deparment to drive arround in an Rundhauber or an old GDR Unit from the 80s but the Duty Gear is allways the same and top notch here in every departmend otherwise there not allowed to operate. and yeah of course there do everything to help the fellwo firefighter thats right its just the thing why are there at the scene in the first place without uniform ^^

Thankfully there is this video to be used for years in training. I thought I was filming something like that, per my panning out.

Question: in the video there were 2 guys there. That one on the right but another closer to the building that got hit. ???????

I think the one on the left was far enough away.

This video should be required viewing for all firefighters. Typical collapse zone is 1 1/2 times the height of the building. I watched a video of this incident taken from another angle. In that video one could see the fire rolling behind the façade, weakening the supports by the second. Fortunately the firefighter can go home to his family and the rest of us can learn from the comfort and safety of our computer screens.
