People just need to stop being judgemental, period. Not everything is for everyone. There are a miriad of kinks and fetishes... watersports, dom/sub, fisting, sounding, role play etc etc etc. Cruising is no different. If it's not your thing, then great... it's not mine either. But don't stand on a pedestal and talk down to others about it. The same measure of judgement you're attributing to cruisers, is the same measure (if not more) that MANY religious straight folks pass on ANY queer person. So quit with the holier-than-though BS

@@johniii8147 I feel the same, but what gets me is how harshly we judge each other when we’ve fought against it from our families, from churches, society and so I for one try not to judge, will make myself stop, think about what I’m doing and change my perspective in that moment. So I agree that it’s natural but it doesn’t have to be, especially with our brothers in the community.

Islington Council in London actually put up a plaque on a former public toilet for it's heritage trail that read "Islington Green’s public toilets were a well-known and often visited spot for cottaging in the 20th century. Islington Green and the nearby music hall were noted as regular sites for queer encounters by historian Matt Houlbrook. Cottaging was the practice of men meeting other men for sexual encounters, mainly in public facilities. Public toilets once resembled small cottages, hence the origin of the term." You are hardly the first straight guy to have wished such a thing and fascinated by it when all you want to do is just get laid easily ( and not have to pay for it). I have had a couple of straight friends that expressed what you did. I had one that i even took to a bathhouse since he was fascinated they existed and didn't necessarily believe it was true. He had no desire to do anything but amazed such a thing existed. He lasted about 30 minutes and we left. It was quite the experience for him to see.

@@johniii8147 and @Jonas Paulsson such places do and did exist for straight people. They're called swingers' clubs. I believe Patrick mentioned in an earlier video in his bathhouse series that there's one in Toronto. Plato's Retreat was an infamous one during the disco era. In truth, Hugh Hefner envisioned his Playboy Clubs as cruising grounds. There's another video elsewhere on KZbin that talks about cottaging and park cruising in early 20th century London. For whatever reason, gay men thought it was better to hook-up with trade (straight men who just wanted to get their rocks off), rather than risk an ongoing relationship with another gay-identifying man and be discovered. Also the trade were often blue collar workers or military service members who were too poor to pay for female sex workers and rather than being customers themselves could get the gay men who pursued them to pay for their booze, food and possibly put them up for the night...as long as the sexual roles were strictly defined and adhered to.

There was a great video back in the 90s called The Art of Cruising Men - it was British, I believe, but hysterical and very informative (all in a good way) even though now I'm sure I'd think parts of it were ageist (now that I'm older! ha) but your video reminded me of that. Used to love to cruise (parks, were my specialty) and still on occasion though the energy level isn't what it once was. Fairly recently I came across a very active t-room which was a total surprise - but made me happy to see it. Unfortunately I had my bicycle with me so could not hang out. This is a fascinating topic and very hard to research because cruising places in history were always word of mouth. You kind of have to find the people who "turned a blind eye" and let it happen to see how and where it happened. Like, in NY in the 70s men would cruise in meat trucks in Chelsea. So someone had to park those trucks and make sure they were unlocked every night in a crowded city, which means a whole chain of people knew what was going on but never told. Probably the most interesting spot is "Dukes Mound" near the Brighton Marina in England. Men have been cruising it for 100 years, quite openly, and somehow the city turned a blind eye. It's named after an unmarried Duke who lived above it and had access to it via a private tunnel under the road.

Back in the seventies and eighties I roamed the tea rooms and bushes. Living in a small city where there might be only one gay bar does not give you much choice to meet men in an age where cell phones and the internet had not yet been invented. I love this. Great lesson. However you do have something very wrong. The part about DADT. I was in the Navy when this went into effect. When I joined it was they asked you lied. ( I was deeply in the closet and believe my own BS). If you got caught being gay, even in a gay bar, you would get thrown out. They would question and try to make you admit you knew when you joined. If you admitted that then they could try you for fraud, that could mean jail time. The “don’t ask” part kept you from going to jail, they would just throw you out without an honorable discharge, like they would if you got caught smoking pot. It was not a dishonorable discharge, that would really fuck up your life. It was a compromise with Clinton and the military. He had promised to open up the military leadership opposed it. So this was a solution no one liked. However it was better than jail. Also it was originally “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue”. That don’t pursue part got dropped real quickly. If it would have been kept in I think we would have gotten full rights sooner. DADT is misunderstood without some context.

Patrick, thank you for this lovely history lesson not all of which I knew. This was by far educational. "Yup. We are so sick, so perverted, so wrong, and bottom of the barrel of society. Mea Culpa. We will amend our wicked ways * whips myself with a belt for existing * " This is what you would like to hear me say probably. Here's what I will actually say instead, "Get over yourselves." People who cruise be it via bathroom, woods, bath houses, gyms and yes the 21st century cruise Grindr and A4A it's all the same thing. Now then, for those who like to point out "it's dangerous". So is crossing the street, eating junk food, and breathing polluted air. I would like to believe collectively we are all informed and consenting adults who know all the ups, downs, ins, and outs of cruising. As said adults I would think they choose their various methods of cruising for the thrill of certain settings. Said adults also would likely willfully ignore the proverbial "elephants in the room" to enjoy the experience. Are they having fun? Are the parties consenting? Yes? Then leave them to it. You do you, they do them, it really does work. It isn't even that difficult. You don't want to do it. Fine. That's your choice and power to you. Telling other people how they should live their lives and judging their choices only looks poorly on those being judgmental. I don't think anyone wants to be judged for how they choose to live their lives. They just want to live and enjoy the few pleasures life on Earth has to offer.

I don’t mean to call you out in anyway but I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that historically and in many countries cruising was the only way for men to get together. That said most civilized countries now don’t have to go trolling bathrooms unless that’s specifically what you’re into. Whatever works for folks I guess. The problem is it is still illegal to have sex in public areas and entirely unnecessary unlike the olden days. This kind of behaviour puts the gay community in a bad light because it implies everyone is a perv just because they have gay interest. It makes us all look bad when people read about us breaking the law and doing what should be private in public just as it would with straight except we are already fighting an uphill battle that assumes we’re sick and broken to begin with. Unless it’s your personal kink I really don’t think cruising for sex in public bathrooms or any other public place is a good idea - and to me, it just sounds gross.

Such an excellent video. I'm 62 and an activist most of my life. For all of you pure men, who would never "lower" yourselves, you have no idea of our history. I don't need your praise, but your condemnation is BS, since it is people like me who enable you to park your asses on bar stools, without getting your heads bashed in. Part of the movement is of course, about human rights, but part of human rights is sexual freedom. If you want the kids and picket fence, good for you, but if you want the freedom to live your life in any form of sexual freedom you choose, then good for you also. I have always been very sexually active, but for the past four yrs, I have been in a monogamous relationship. That's what works for me. When a FB friend came out as being in relationship with two men, all living together, my comment to him was that I have an opinion about his situation that cannot be changed, ever. Do what the hell you want, especially since life is so short. So many of us have been tortured, murdered, or have had everything taken away from us, and yet we have people in our community who are worried about where someone sticks it, or where they get stuck. Your quest for respectability is just an attempt to be accepted by your oppressor. No matter how many ties you wear, or how nicely you keep your lawn, or how much money you have, you are nothing but a dirty ____ to those who hate who you are. Love others and yourself.

I watched your video. The videos are beautiful. Video quality is very nice but like view subscribe is very low, another is more, if you have you can be a professional youtuber. Do you want to be a professional? We can talk about how this can happen//

You're fab who cares about the haters. Their clearly jealous. Cruising is straight up a gold mine for booty and Grindr can be so toxic. At least while cruising the hate or rejection isn't so brasen.

I feel more informed. The next time I hear someone “virtue signaling” about cruising, I may bring this up 😉
