It's important to know where things started, who was involved, where things went down, what came out of it and how it affects us today.
History repeats, and to move forward we have to know where we came from so we can learn from the past.

In St John's University my English teacher had us read a lot of gay literature in 1990s. I thought it odd for a Catholic University. The class was a lot of fun.

I had heard the term Mattachine Society before, but I didn't know what it referred to. Before this, my gay history knowledge pretty much started with Stonewall.

Nice work. I did not know the meaning of “matachine” before. Nice to note the generation change with Stonewall ‘69. Act Up comes next in the 80’s with AIDS, and turns the activism up to 11.

Of course we know beautiful Harry but I've never heard of the Mattachine society. Harry was, and still is, a great icon from cradle to grave and sugar is more than fine. Thanks for the nice bit of history.

I'm so glad you told this story. I've been in the Radical Faeries since 98. I met Harry and went to many faerie gatherings over the years. In Seattle we had Faygela BenMiriam here in Seattle who was married to another man in 1972 because the law didn't say he couldn't. Wore a dress to work at the EEOC because it was comfortable, and made the best pot lemon bars. I love listening to the stories and I'm glad you are telling them.

Im pretty sure that swedish schools these days talk alot about atleast sexual tolerance. My kids are extremely tolerant. My son and his friends even hangs out with a girl who identifies as a boy.
