In this episode of Gay & Over 40, the Vlog series, we look at what cruising, going out, partying - looks like over 40.
What is the difference between your 20's VS your 40's when it comes to DRINKING?
What is the difference between your 20's VS your 40's when it comes to DANCING?
And what is the difference between your 20's VS your 40's when it comes to CRUISING and SEX?
Your mindset, your motivations and your end goals are all very different when you're over 40 and that's ok, cuz you're not the same person you used to be (thank god!)

I was cracking up for this entire video!! You were spot on with every comment you made. I never did drugs, when I was younger but I definitely drank! I would show up early, start drinking and just dance the night away with friends. I would leave the bar at 3AM then wake up at 8AM or 9AM to have brunch with the same friends at 11AM. After that, we would either hit a pool party or go back to the bar and drink Long Island Teas for the rest of the Sunday. Youth is AMAZING! Getting old was an entire lifetime away. Now, here I sit. I don't hit the bars anymore. I do not drink alcohol anymore. All of my friends have either died or moved away and I just sit at home with my beautiful dog. My knees hurt. My back hurts. It would be nice to find a partner but I'm comfortable. It is all so different. This was such a relatable video. To all the youth out there - you'll understand, one day,

I hear you Danny. I'm 74 and have always steered to Gay outdoor clubs. The pressure there is not as bad, because everyone has the same interest. With my active life style and healthy eating (lots of antioxidants) I look much younger than I actually am, so I've been told multiple times. I just came back form a hiking and biking trip up in Yosemite Nat'l Park just a couple weeks ago. I'm currently single, looking for a guy to share the rest of my life with, etc. I live in the San Diego area.

I love that you are so comfortable and happy with who you are and so open about being gay. I grew up in the SF Bay Area in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. Gay people were never an issue and were just part of the population. I had gay friends in high school and know how hard it was for some of them to come to terms with being gay even though we lived in a very liberal open environment. Your videos popped up and I've watched a bunch of them. I love your openness. I'm a 61 year old straight woman and have learned quite a bit from your videos and find it refreshing. Free to be you and me. Thanks for the cool videos.

So relatable! I’m now 48 and live blissfully with my wonderful husband and 4 dogs. We are in bed every night by 9:30. Seriously, if it ticks round to 10pm I’m so desperate to get into bed to just unwind and call it a day. 20 years ago I was dancing on bars and podiums in gay clubs, loving my best life. We now prefer to go out at lunchtime and on,y yesterday we’re planning what we’re having to eat at today’s lunch with friends, by looking at the menu of the restaurant online and saying how 14 euros for a chicken salad is ridiculous!! And how we can buy a whole weeks worth of salad for that!! It’s all about priorities in life. Love your video. Greetings from Cyprus.
@PatrickMarano
@PatrickMarano 3 жыл бұрын
Omg, Teral! You totally relate, I'm glad! 14 euros for 1 salad? c'mon! It's just a natural progression of us getting older and priorities shifting. I just wish gays wouldn't worship youth so much... there's no reason to (except for their beauty)

I’ve been 50 since I was 20!! All I wanted when I was 20 was to be retired (now at 50, I am). I was sooooooooooo bored at nightclubs when I was in my 20’s! People standing around ignoring each other, too cool for school, if they did talk it was about their Prada shoes……..BORING! At 20 I wanted a house PAID OFF, money in the bank, a rental property, a nice sports car, and to travel the world. Now at 50 THANK GOD I have all that. I love my house, my 12 foot tall privacy hedges that circle my property, my backyard pool, and my gardens. ………you couldn’t PAY ME to be in my 20’s again!! And man, do I feel sorry for the young people of today!!! Good luck, and no thank you!!

I thought I will have a bad life until I read your thread otherwise clubbing, not for me 😂. All I want to do is heal my past traumas, build my empire and be happy most importantly, which is not the “standard” /expected fun( clubbing, cruising etc. ) Your story is inspiring!!!

Let me guess, you didn't go out partying on school nights (workdays of the week)? I believe it is a sweeping generalization to assume all 20-somethings were of this carefree mindset. Some 20-somethings were in the survival and maturity mode you described above. I recall feeling left out because I had no entourage to take me out hither and thither. Those feelings yielded a realization of my great freedom in setting my own agenda and itinerary.
@eddieg6436

@@utubewatcher806 …When I was 20 rather than partying and clubbing, I was PLANNING my life for retirement. I started fully funding my Roth IRA when I was 24, and began “collecting” stocks to form a diverse stock portfolio over the decades. Saving for my home, later buying my rental house eventually happened, as well as PAYING THEM OFF, with no mortgages. Pieces of the puzzle started forming. This was all much more important to me than a club scene, or inane conversations with narcissists prevalent in the gay community. Decades flew by, and my plan realized. Life is about choices.

This guy is 100% "spot on"! I'm 68. I look 48. You think that would make me want to be glued to the bar scene... but quite the opposite. When people in a bar who are decades younger than me constantly hit me up, I, sooner or later, tell them my age. Man! Gay guys, who are always on edge about being picked-on by society, sure are picky about "age"! When I tell a guy my real age they quickly praise me for looking so young and then can't get away from me fast enough. And I don't hit on 18 year olds! Most of these guys are at least in their 50's! But I run a lot, I lift weights 3 times a week, I take a variety of vitamins, not a sun-worshiper, non-smoker, etc... so I don't have very many lines in my skin...AND my hair is still light brown, not a grey hair in sight. Confusing world.

For the most part, I had stopped going out to gay bars/clubs by the time I turned 24. For me, the point of going out then was to meet a mate, but for an ltr. Once I found my mate/partner/significant other, I was done with that scene. I enjoyed watching this video as a 49 year old. I could still relate. I complain about loud music in grocery stores, malls and shopping outlets 🤣

39 going on 40 on December...just found this video amazingly accurate. For me, some things apply even to when I was in my 20s because I didn't really go out so much, I had a lot of things to do for the University and very little money so that I was really -if I went out- I went counting out every cent in order to be able to pay a taxi afterwards and be able to pay lunch at the university every day...and whether I drank little or more, I always had a terrible insomnia episode and the next day...I was wasted as can be. So now, I just keep on being very time, money and health-conscious. I still feel quite young and with good physical condition, to the point that I can hike routes and go to places some of my friends already can't, don't have any back pain or a thing like that. However, any bad night of sleep or of staying late and any colitis episode can make me have the worst days and additionally losing weight isn't as easy as before . Again on the positive side, I prefer quiet and alone time, I valuate to have quality time with my partner, friends and cat....and sex is so much better and rewarding that when I was in my 20s...it's like a gift that you really seize.

When I was in my twenties till maybe mid thirties i love to go out, mainly because i loved to dance and many times I would go out alone and have a blast by myself. I feel it was easier then to meet guys in a club and much more fun. I promised myself that by 40 I would no longer go out to clubs, I did not want to be that guy who didn't know when to stop going out. So when the time came I stopped and never looked back. I am glad I experienced clubbing in my younger years in NYC and have great memories as well.

But it blows my brain to look back at my 20's in San Francisco. Full-time job. Swam US Masters ... but somehow Wednesday night it was Queer Nation meetings. Thursday night it was "The Box," a gay dance club. Friday night it was the End Up or Club Nzinga, both gay clubs. Sunday, of course a tea dance .. somewhere. How did I do that?? And got up for work ... and swam after work ... And don't ask me how many guys I went home with: not many standards either LOL ...

Back in my day it was the Gay Rags with the classifieds, or the tubs, or the forest preserve on top of the bars - you HAD to go out to get some. I do miss the days when it felt like a secret underground alternative fabulous club - more mainstream now, some of the glamour and mystery is gone. But so much more open and accepted now - which is much better!

Exactly. This video is the truth. Since I'm about to turn 60 in about 5 months this is even more true. You can't get me out to a dance club if you tried. As for the bars, I'm not much of a drinker anyway. IF I show up I'll have a couple of beers mixed in with bottled water and I'm done.

Girl... I am so with you. I am actually 40 and I look like I am in my twenties. You are ACCURATE in every sense of the word. By 10pm I don't wanna know nobody. Loved this topic. I am so with you!!! however, I am an early person in my 40's versus my 20's.... in my 20's I was not a morning person.

Sitting down and stay sitting, you won’t go out. Oh man that’s the truth! I have a good one for ya. My friend and I decided to hit the club late so we got high at 10 to keep us awake past midnight and stood in queue for over an hour to get in that seemed to take forever. After we got in and had a drink or two, we sat in the corner people watching and we both fell asleep 💤. We were woken by others who were younger. 😂😆😂😆😂🤣🤣

Yes yes and YASS! I feel all those things, but not necessarily through the narrative of empowerment. Already being experienced enough to know what we like and what we don’t like and not to treat it as a shortcoming, especially in the last few years as I had been dating younger guys (most in their 20s) has definitely come with a feeling of inadequacy. Looking to date more age appropriate guys (mid-30s and up) has been a relief 😅

You hit all of these comments dead on!! You described my 20's so perfect. Except the drugs!! Now that I am in my 40's, I sometimes wish I could go back and relive my 20's for a day. They were such fun times. You are correct though, by the time your in your 40's, it seems like where has all the time gone, & I just don't have the energy like I did in my 20's. When I was in my early 20's, I thought 40's were so far down the road. But it's hard to realize how quickly time passes. It's here before you know it!!!!

I’ve had to change my go to drink from a vodka/sprite to a vodka/water. The sugar from the pop makes me feel bloated and the water is to keep me hydrated. I also remember in my 20s taking the morning train home from downtown after partying all night and seeing the kids heading off to school and the responsible adults going to work. There I am coming down from whatever I was on, hair is mess, makeup is running from crying (you’re drunk, it’s bound to happen) and hoping nobody is judging me. Loved this video, thank you for sharing:)
