I really liked this bike in person, the redesign was going back to its roots, an endurance bike just having a taller headtube and shorter reach and making the seat post comfortable for the rider, I think these bikes are a great option for a 1 bike to rule them all features.

Mounting the battery in the downtube has a number of advantages 1. Stiffer frame tube that's not going to flex and bend the battery, and the battery isn't going to interfere with the flex of the seatpost 2. Lower center of gravity feels better. 3. Ease of adjustment and less chance of breaking wires

I have this exact bike in all black. Never spent so much money on a bike before. But the geometry is so good for my older body I could not pass it up. Riding many years on many brands. First bike to actually relive my neck pain while riding! The geometry works so well for my shorter arms and longer legs. Only gripe is that the Bontrager 32mm tubeless tires were problematic. After three months my rear tire started to develop a bulge on the sidewall. Trek shop warrantied them and admitted that I was no alone and this was clearly a factory defect. Anyway ended up going with the Conti5000 TR 32mm tires and to my surprise comfort and speed improved noticeably

I’ve been riding a 2017 Domane SL on everything from short and fast group rides to centuries and everything in between, also Olympic and sprint triathlons. It’s heavy, sure, but good all-arounder especially on crappy roads like we have in NYC, surprisingly good on gravel and dirt with road tires. I’d never buy the factory complete bike again though. Get the frame and components separately. Pick your wheels, seat, etc.
@Se0what

Imo this is the one bike for it all. I used mine for cross country touring, racing crits/gravel/grandfondos, and commuting on the nice days. Officially 38mm clears it but I've gone all the way to 40mm on single track. This model fixes almost all the negatives I had with the gen 3. Only thing is the proprietary seat post means no suspension seatpost.

But seeing it in the sunlight in your video, I now think this bikes looks super cool and racey. Love the metalflake sparkle of the Red in the sun. Couldn't tell if the Blue also had a metal flake to it. I am just a little on the fence with the Yellow markings on the Bottom stays. I want to order a Di2 SLR and the one available in the shortest time frame is this one. I'd have to wait 120 days for the Red Smoke to Carbon Smoke color ...and get it with SRAM Force eTap. I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: there’s nothing revolutionary about this Domane. Endurance bike with hidden cables that doesn’t require technology like IsoSpeed but relies more on tyres? Well, Giant did that with their Defy many years ago. Domane triumphs the Defy only with the hidden compartment for that, I give them credit, Don’t get me wrong. I love Trek. But I think they are just getting lazy 🙁 step up, Trek!

What else would you want it to do? At the end of the day it’s still a bike! And it’s always gonna be a sport where your on a thin seat for a long period of time putting out max effort. It’s meant to be a little bit uncomfortable. Your not suppose to be on a bike and feel like a lazy boy chair. And if they added way too much proprietary stuff people would shit brick and say it’s not needed and a gimmick.

@@GCPerformance18 yea but that’s not a very Trek thing to do. Trek has always had their own way of doing things. Let’s name a few recent ones 👇 BB90, seat mast, IsoSpeed, IsoFlow. That’s the ‘Trek way.’ Being different. You only get these from Trek for better or worse and this is the enjoyment of owning a Trek. Then comes this Domane which contradicts the Way of Trek if such a thing even exists. Get what I’m trying to get at? As I’ve mentioned in my previous comment. It’s another Defy but made by Trek 🙁
