06:58 Might want to get the AMP Research Override Switch because standing on that will cause heavy strain on the gears, and motors over time. That will lower the life expectancy of them in the long run. The switch is also real simple to install and they allow you to keep the steps up when you don't want them out, and down when you want to clean them.

I've talked with a good number of AMP Research step owners (IN-PERSON) at their vehicle here in Canadian Rockies. Very low satisfaction rate, with most all of the units FAILING in 2 years or less. Asked if they, a after market shop, or dealership installed prior to delivery (most pre-new delivery) Real world experiences, with actual owners, in front of my eyes (not online), right where I live. I would have bought these (or the HD edition) had the results (life expectancy) been better.

My experience today was a disaster. I have a 2016 RAM Laramie 1500 truck. I had the chrome steps but they were too close to truck to be any use. I went to the dealer and had the automatic step running boards installed today. They seemed to work OK. I drove down to Home Depot which was about 2 miles down the road. When I got in of the truck the running boards retracted then extended and retracted over and over. It was doing this on both sides. My wife was upset not knowing if they would just break and fall down. We were about 1 mile from the dealer so I headed down the feeder road all the time the running boards were banging up against the truck. The accessory lady came out and saw what was going on. I video recorded this while they were looking at this. She called the people that put them in and told her to leave the truck. I got a loaner truck from the dealer and went home. This was my experience with the electric running boards. I hope they can get this problem fixed as soon as possible.

+Aus 4040 I agree. Keeps ground clearance up. I’ve had other running boards get pretty beat up off road from high centering.

@@GearsGadgets is that on the regular steps or the xL models

Hey, how are they holding up now? They look pretty solid though By the way, is yours with "2 in" extension or just regular?
@GearsGadgets7 жыл бұрын
Mine are just the regular. No 2” extension, they would be way too low with the extension unless you had a lift. They are holding up awesome. Wife and kids love them and I love that I don’t lose any ground clearance with them. I recommend if you can afford it.
@shanetseng60407 жыл бұрын
Awesome! So if I plan to do a 3 in lift, do u think the 2 in extension kit would be good?

I have been having problems with my steps. I have 2014 chevy silverado with obdii connector. Sometimes they work sometime they don't. If i un hook the obd ii plug they work 3 or 4 times then they quit again. And un hook them again and back on amd work. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the super late reply Alberto Anaya. I appreciate that you stopped by the channel and apologize for not responding WAY sooner.

Are they good for dragging on rocks?
@GearsGadgets5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t rely on them as rock sliders, they do tuck up tight but I wouldn’t want to be dragging them frequently as they are aluminum and would probably get pretty twisted.

Kind of sucks if you have other ODB2 devices you need to plug in. IE a Bluetooth scanner that you use to real time monitor engine data.
@GearsGadgets5 жыл бұрын
You can get a splitter and have 2 ports. Pretty cheap.

now it is time for a suspension lift (it never ends)
@bc_usa Жыл бұрын
That's what my wife keeps telling me. 😂😂😂 First I bought too big of tires for my truck because I wanted big tires then I got a 6 inch lift because my tires were rubbing and I didn't want to cut my truck up and now I need these steps because the truck is so tall. It never ends.

Did you really buy two wrench’s instead of just converting ft lbs?
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
Glock Fanboy the two wrenches have completely different torque ranges. So yes.

I have these on my '18 ram mega cab. Had them on since new, definitely like them...BUT anytime I have the tow/ haul button on for more than 5 minutes, they don't work.

Really!?!?! That is bizarre. Must be an OBDII thing.

Constantly plugged in to the ODB II port?? Hard pass.
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
What else are you doing with the OBDIi port when you aren’t running diagnostic the .0000001% of the time you plug in a scan tool.
@todd87814 жыл бұрын
Gears & Gadgets wireless OBD II transmitter for real time gauges, stats, diagnostics. Much better use than motorized steps
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
Oh fair enough. You can just get a splitter and run both.

Those are kick-ass! 👍🏼 But what about us in the northern climates? Snow/salt...I wonder how they’d be in that. 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers on the review. 👍🏼🇨🇦

Barry Bebenek thanks Barry. I come from Buffalo NY originally. Very familiar with snow. I had these for a couple winters and they never had any problems.

When you were putting them together and the torque wrench clicked you should have stopped. When you done the second and third click you effectively over torqued the Bolts,screws and the other items.

Yes I do expect 10 years at $1500 I’m tired of things I buy being disposable, make it to last. A nice aluminum gears are that much more to put your name on it.
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
Gene Branson why in the world would you demand aluminum gears? These steps have 0 lbs of load on them in motion, while fully extended and body weight is on them, the solid aluminum arms hold 100% of the weight, if the doors are closed and someone is standing on the boards, it senses it and terminates the closing process thus eliminating the gears lifting any weight. Honestly over engineering and adding huge costs to products for the 1% of the nitpickers to alienate 99% of potential buyers is arguably the dumbest business decision one could make.
@genebranson33934 жыл бұрын
Gears & Gadgets I guess that’s the difference between quality and quantity
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
Gene Branson nothing stopping you from starting up your own high end running board company with heavy duty motors capable of lifting 350lbs, billet aluminum gears, and NASA-427 aluminum alloy boards. Good luck staying in business selling those bad boys.
@GearsGadgets4 жыл бұрын
Gene Branson or the other option is you could just buy what’s on the market and deal with it or not and move on. No sense screaming from the sidelines that you have a better way of you aren’t willing to jump in the game.
