Sadly, 200% of 0 is still 0. The singular third-person pronoun "they" has existed since the 14th century and is literally older than the singular "you" (because like it, "you" also started off as being purely plural of which the antiquated singular form of was instead "thou") By his own words, that he said that his friend was bringing along "a friend". Singular antecedent was literally right there, apparently context and phrasing just doesn't exist in his world, apparently.

No wonder he got cancelled there, this is a cancel-worthy English "joke" too, since we all know why the 700-year old concept of singular they is mocked like so and it's because it's to inderectly mock the non-binary people who have taken to using such language. If not, then the-also both-singular-and-plural "you" would be complained about like so too, yet it's not. Btw, singular they is also just part of proper English grammar. It can be used both plural _and_ singular and in this joke, in Rafi's on words, the antecedent for they is "a friend", that's a singular antecedent btw.

It's all about the delivery, truly masterful, and all in a second language.
@RebelTheArtGal5 ай бұрын
Yeah, except the delivery only "works" by disregarding concepts such as "context" and "phrasing". Even as another non-native speaker, I could spot that.

@@RebelTheArtGal not every non-native speaker understands "they" being a singular pronoun, or as intelligent as you seem to be .^. the concept of non-native speakers not understanding stuff that should be common sense is a kind of trope in comedy even some native speakers get confused, so it's more like a "boomer and technology" thing than a "person doesn't respect identity" thing

@@CrowCereal Aye, but I still can't shake off how it pretty much is just like a dog-whistle. The replies I've received on this comment section really just steer my point that way too.
