Absolutely! It's similar to sex ed. Kids who receive age appropriate, comprehensive, evidence based sex ed are significantly less likely to suffer sexual abuse. But the religious right is against that as well. The harsh reality is that many of them see children and youth as property to do with as they will. @SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans76482 ай бұрын
Actually good comparative religion studies do show that things which resemble Christian gospel ideals show up in various indigenous religions. The Christian missionary should be seeking to impart focus, not fog, to such peoples, by understanding the beliefs of the peoples and explaining the improvement in perspective that the Lord brings. That's why a classic missionary song goes "We've a story to tell to the nations." It's often not the ideals that are so bad; it's the lack of a solid back story to believe and the consequent spiritual weakness, despite the ideals, in trying times. So why care about the Papuans if they've got some small clue? Well even on earth getting a bigger clue is better, but also on earth is the stage whose losses and victories will project into everlasting life. This is like restoring an artwork. Part of it may be gorgeous, but part of it may be quite worn away. The restorer will make the whole thing look great.

@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 I'm curious as to what Christian values or aspects appear in indigenous religions that you think can be ostensibly proven to have originated within Christianity? There certainly are religious universals, like belief in a god, mythology (often used to tell similar stories reflecting morals and the human experience), praying, etc. But those existing doesn't mean that they were derived from any one true religion, and I see no reason to believe that it must be Christianity. I also disagree with your blanket statement that there is a "lack of a solid backstory" in indigenous religions. Quite frankly, a lot of what you're saying sounds like it has roots in racism and the white savior narrative. Anyway, this reasoning does not justify missionary work or state sanctioning a religion onto a group of people, whether they have an existing faith or not.

The homeschooling thing is a BIG one. I live in a state with practically zero homeschooling oversight. All that accomplishes is protecting child abusers. I essentially had no schooling under the guise of “homeschooling”. I have young elementary age kids now and it sucks that I basically don’t know about anything they are learning. I was never taught any of it. Homeschooling protects abusers from having their kids in front of mandatory reporters. I understand there are some situations that it is in the child’s best interest, but I know from personal experience - that is not the case for most of us.

I am sorry for your experience, nonetheless, that is a very strong statement, and as someone who is homeschooled I have seen the opposite myself. I was homeschooled because I kept getting abused in the public school system and they covered it up because "there was nothing physically overt therefore it wasn't actually abuse". The public school system was holding me back and I was homeschooled and I excelled and was ahead of my piers. Plus I have heard of many cases of abusive parents who still send their kids to public school where the abuse is not seen. I am sympathetic that abuse sucks, and that your parents withholding education from you is another form of abuse, however, that points to a problem with the way homeschooling is observed not with homeschooling in of itself just like how my experiences do not mean the public school is invalid in of itself.

When I started writing, I Saw something in my head, and I've been chasing down the knowledge to write that something coherently for the past 20 years. I needed to know about People, so I got into the habit of paying attention to everyone around me irreguardless of how I felt about them. I needed to know about Governence, so I started getting involved and taking notes on debates, comparing and contrasting words to actions for any offical I could scrape info for. I did not read political theory books, those presented conclusions. I needed to SEE how it WORKED, not clean theory but Messy, Lived Experiences Of What Happens In Practice And as the Empire took shape in my mind, I realized I was writing about revolution, faith, governence, labor, and the nature of personhood. I did not go to collage. I kept studying first person accounts, speeches, debates, interviews, always keeping Compare and Contrast in mind and revisiting when action was supposed to take place, and following up with secondary effects. I've been watching this shit since I was 10. Its *all* been there since the 90's. They just had cute ways of referencing it. If the person does not speak clearly, interrogate hyperbole and euphimisms. Don't be polite when someone constantly talks *around* things and constantly uses soft language around action and hard language around ideals. My mother spent my entire childhood telling me I would never be allowed to move out. She has spent my adulthood trying to sabotage my life to get me to move back in with her. She basically wants me to wait on her hand and foot. I know that the reason she supports Trump is because she believes he will make it so I can’t afford to live on my own. But the thing she keeps forgetting is that if we go back on civil rights as far as she thinks is needed to get me back home with her, she wouldn’t have the right to force me home. My father would be in charge of me. She hates him and he would do the opposite of what she wanted just to piss her off.

I’m a transgender atheist, sex educator and musician. My family came here on the Mayflower. They’re talking about banning people like me from public spaces and even killing me for thought crimes. Everything I am is anathema to their beliefs, and I have never been represented in our government nor do I feel safe in this country.

Project 2025 is actually great because it has made me 110% sure that I'm absolutely justified in my discomfort with the people who peddle this kind of ideology. I've tried to stay "centrist" and "open minded" about policy in the past but that becomes difficult when the conservative movement is writing up a document that, if used as a basis for passing law, could directly lead to my own suffering, discrimination, or, in the worst case, death.

@@Theo_Skeptomaiif I have to talk about only one it'd be the ban on pornography. first of all: do you really wanna give the state enough power to rule over what you watch when you aren't hurting or supporting the harm of anyone? if you believe that pornography is sinful and thus harmful then I'll reiterate: do you want to give the state the power to rule according to their own interpretations of religious texts? do you think such a power is waranted? and do you believe that we should take people's freedoms for months over watching pornography? wouldn't that set a precedent for the state to start passing laws about emprisonning over so much stuff according to religion that life would become significantly harder for everyone?
@tricitymorte14 ай бұрын
@@Theo_Skeptomaisee, the problem is that they worded everything in the manifesto to sound appealing, but what these actions would actually do is cause harm to a vast majority of the population. It would take away quality education and dismantle public schools, making it so only the wealthy would be able to afford to send their kids to school. Then, that education would intertwined with the flavor of Christianity the people in charge decide should be taught as fact. It would turn a lot of people in this country into criminals due to things outside of their control, and make millions of Americans homeless and unable to find work due to legalized discrimination. And then the homeless population would be put in prison. California has already been putting their homeless in prison, rather than address the disparity between cost of housing and low wages. Most of their homeless people work. Some work 3 jobs and can't afford a place to live. When they get arrested for being homeless, now you're taking those people out of the workforce, too, and taking otherwise law-abiding citizens and given them a criminal record that will make it even more difficult to get a job or a place to live. A system like this will eventually turn every American into a convicted criminal. Do we want to have our entire populace in prison, being forced to work for no pay?

It’s because of religion; since republicans feel that is what god wants, they refuse to be open minded because they believe they will be rewarded in the afterlife. Let’s face it, democrats and republicans is not a battle of politics, it’s a battle of religion. The USA is more polarized than ever simply because there are less devout “strictly by the thousands of years old Bible” Christians than before.

The sloppiness and vagueness are also the point; vague laws give them even greater freedom to interpret and bend them however they want, and change that interpretation at their whim. That's why vague laws are usually not allowed to be enacted.
