In this video ‪@GVS‬ shares his current training routine, including the split, frequency and volume. Geoffrey and Kenny discuss the age-old saying, "you can train hard or you can train long, but you can't do both" and while there is a grain of truth in this (elaborated with more context in the video), it's important to understand where, how and for who this may apply. It is not uncommon that those who preach this quote will also suggest that if your goal is maximal muscle growth it is best to look at how a sprinter trains (since they are more muscular) than a distance runner, in order to prove the point that you can't physically train hard and long and to even advocate that a 1 set per exercise protocol is the most optimal approach for everyone looking to gain muscle. Again, while there may be a grain of truth in the age-old quote, if one is using the sport of running to support there specific point, one must consider how a sprinter actually trains! While also considering the fact that both distance running and sprinting are both "hard" respectively in their own ways. This is an incredibly interesting and eye opening conversation. Enjoy.
This video is taken from episode 109 of the Longevity Muscle Podcast with Geoffrey Verity Schofield. Geoffrey is a KZbin content creator, Author, Coach and Natural Bodybuilder.

The whole "train long" thing is so odd to me. Even when I did a bro split with super high volume I was never in the gym more than an hour. When I see other people talking about 90-120 minutes in the gym I figure they must be playing with their little doodles in the bathroom or on the phone the entire time.

Completely fantastic thumbnail. Really comprehensive, informative and insightful video. It’s so awesome to see Geoffrey on the channel. Always loved watching his videos and listening to his training methods and philosophy as well as advice. It’s always great knowing his perspective on many training related topics. He certainly trains very hard and does pretty high volume. Doing high effort and high volume together especially for a natural lifter is truly commendable. The fact that he doesn’t just go to failure on most of his lifts but goes beyond it on many lifts while doing high volume is mind-blowing and simply tremendous! He’s absolutely jacked too! His arms are totally huge. Back and legs are very developed too. He’s definitely a very advanced/elite lifter. He’s truly a huge inspiration for all the natural bodybuilders and especially for those of us who’ve self-limiting beliefs. He has certainly broke all the self-imposed limits that many natural bodybuilders put on themselves. He’s simply a top-notch and incredibly phenomenal individual too. His work capacity, passion and dedication to lifting is simply praiseworthy. Absolutely outstanding video. Really loved it thoroughly from start to finish! 🙏💪👍

Alex Leonidas has a video discussing high frequency volume rows (im interested becuase i dont have a lot of time in the gym but i do have dumbells at home). When should i add sets, reps or weight?
@longevitymuscle

Hi, thanks for your question. It's really difficult to say without knowing how the rows are being performed, how your recovery is from set to set and session to session and the overall volume you are doing in a given week relative to the intensity of effort given in each set!

@Triple_Aces i dont know about him specifically but 6 days a week is the routine of someone who is on steroids. Naturals should be in the gym max 2-3 full body a week.

I did do 6 days a week in the past as a natural for around 2 years from 2018 when i started lifting until the lockdowns in 2020. After that i kinda lost interest in training and decreased my workout days, i had no life basically besides from training and working and cooking training 6 days a week. Now i train around 3-4 times a week and i gotta say i like training more with that kind of frequency, i dont have to force myself to go train anymore because i really look forward to the training now. The truth is that naturals could really benefit from some extra rest days because for naturals it already takes longer for the muscles to actually recover and extra rest could actually help to come back fully recovered and try higher weight than last time for example, i come back stronger now most of the time. During the 6 days a week training split i felt too exhausted at certain days and would hold back from intensity not really trying to progress. My muscles weren't getting much sore anymore training all my muscles on a twice per week frequency.

@@juwo7569 i have also cut back to less sets but high intensity. Its hard work. I don’t think I could ever do 6 days a week like that.

@@Black-Circle for alot of people its not possible to go 6 days a week, they have 8-12 hour workshifts and a wife and kids , the gym is not more important than that.

I will say for me, i used to do moderate to high volume and im not super advanced but worked out consistently for 2 years, then i got ill and gained way way way more strength way way way way way faster than if i just continued that week. Im talking 3-5 reps, 5 kg increase on most movements, whereas before id just gain a rep or half a rep, so still progression but clearly not the fastest i could have made. Nowadays, Im not doing one set a week or anything, but i work bigger muscles 1-2 times a week, smaller muscles 3-4 times a week with 2ish exercises and 1-2 sets to failiure and doing partials, and looking at my progression, even with extra rest days in between 2 upper day 1s, i gain faster in reps. Again, while before id gain one rep, i now gain up to 3. Would this be the best route for me since im getting the fastest strength growth with good form and technique?
