I have found over the years that I have gotten better at recovering from set to set, and I often surprise myself on the second or third set, getting just about as many reps with the same or even a heavier weight despite thinking I went all out (or at least really hard) on the first set. Partly, it's probably a neurological thing: it may take a set or two to find the right groove and firing pattern, and by the third set the body is working efficiently. Though I am not in their class, it seems that one of the things that seems to separate the good bodybuilders (especially the volume trainers) from the average person is their set-to-set recovery ability. Again, this might be partly a neurological thing. The bodybuilders who tend to burn out after a set or two tend to gravitate to low volume, extra high intensity training. Be that as it may, if you look at the training of most bodybuilders who do multiple sets, you'll see that they add weight up to a top set or two, and don't lose that many reps from set to set despite working hard.

Be great to see an interview with Jay Vincent and a discussion about HIT vs volume etc

864 all sets are to rpe 9/10? So I’m guessing if he is adding weight each set the sets of 6 and 4 me must fail at 5 and he’s going for 6 and fail at 2 going for 4 unless he is resting 3-5 minutes between sets
