I think he pointed out the most important parts and everything was correct AFAIK. You can't mention everything in a 10 minute video. I'm not an Azeri though. I'm from Turkey. So maybe my knowledge is not complete. I will have to wait a couple of years when he reaches letter T so that I can comment with more authority. :)

I think Paul does a great job of sharing really quite interesting information about the geography and history of countries. He does it in a tentative, unbiased way which is refreshing. I think you guys in the comments need to chill a little. Yes I understand different nations don't get along but at the end of the day, each one of us are human. Born and raised on different areas of land- that's the difference. If only you in the comments could see how you are getting nowhere but spreading hate and potentially putting the talented Paul off making any more videos in the future. Keep going Paul, you're awesome :D

Actually, Turkish people and Azerbaijani people have the same origin. In 16th century, there have been a huge fight between Ottoman Empire and Safavids. Azerbaijani people are the descendants of Safavids mostly. Actually, modern Iran was also descendants of Safavids. And the only difference between Ottoman society and Safavid society was Ottoman people were Sunni and Safavid people were Shia. Safavids are the descendants of Seljuks also. And this is why they have an Seljuk star in the middle of their flag. Turkey also has that flag but in a different formation. The Seljuk people who came to Anatolia in the middle of 11th century builded the Sunni -mostly orthodox and civil (I mean who lives in cities mostly) way of Islam. And they founded Anatolian Seljuks. Ottoman flag, has the same crescent and Seljuk star. It is only Turkey that has it in a different form. Azerbaijan and Turkey actually have always been enemies for six or seven centuries. They are only friends for a century. And ironically founders of Azerbaijani state were panturkist Ottoman officers. And the relations between modern Turkey and modern Azebaijan kind of strange. Azerbaijani government is kind of pro-Russian and have some issues with Turkey. Because Turkey have organised an unsuccessful military coup in Azerbaijan. And the biggest problem is, Turkey wants to open the border and customs with Armenia. And Azerbaijan is really mad about this issue. And also, Azerbaijan does not recognize the de-facto state of Turkish Norhern Cyprus. And yes, they have oil. And yes, they sell it cheaper to Turkey. And yes, Azerbaijan watches our TV-series and we support them in Eurovision. But Armenia is also cool I think. Why do Armenians and Azeris waste so much breath arguing with each other? The Caucasus region is small enough as it is, why would you want to squander what potential this does have into sustaining a feud which only enables corruption, autocracy and cronyism in both countries? Sure, you can do what you learned in school, go through each others histories, and see how each other is different but so much more out of it is lost by emphasizing those differences and ignoring the similarities.
@elshanmammadli773110 жыл бұрын
Hi, its so complicated issue even majority of our people and armenians don't understand. Caucasus region is small but rich enough with natural resources that other big countries like Russia wants to control that region. Peace in that region actually doesn't fit with the policy of those big countries. That is why there are a lot of problems between these 2 counties.

Paul, I'm again going to say I very much like how you deal with all the different sorts of conflicts. You mention them but don't focus on them, and by sticking to facts and staying neutral on them I think you're handling it very professionally. Never shy away from subjects or to be too "politically correct" about it just because there might be some people on either side that will give you shit for it. Great job and keep up the hard work! :D

Thanks for the video! Saying that there is religious freedom is questionable, but otherwise I think you gave a good overview of Azerbaijan.

Yeah I mean, it's technically true, but the building of religious institutions of anything that isn't Islamic typically go through a long process of red tape for approval, many times getting denied, It's kind of sad

I have a question: As I know, Azerbaijan does not allows the entrance of Armenians or people who have visited Armenia before to the country. However, Armenia does not forbid Azerbaijanis to enter the country. If an Azerbaijani visits Armenia, then it means that person can't enter his own country?
