For "YOG" George Michael. The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

@@HALFSQUASHED I TOTALLY agree with the sentiment, but there are some considerations to be had. USA for Africa's - We are the World (1985), Prince's - Sign o' the Times (1987), this song [George Michael's - Praying for Time (1990)], Michael Jackson's - Heal the World (1992), and Judy Kuhn's - Colors of the Wind (1995 - from the Pocahontas OST) were all recorded in the same 10 year span, and there are several others. There are quite a few in each area, including the modern era, but they are, indeed, far and few between and growing more scarce. There are plenty of talented writers today, (e.g. Adele, John Legend, even Justin Beiber with songs like "Intentions"), and a lot of independent artists still write highly artistic songs with important lyrics. A big part of it is that the blockbuster hit record has become more subject to the will of corporate financial interest, while more meaningful music is more sparsely distributed across isolated niches, vis-à-vis Anderson's Long Tail. But fear not, there's still hope my friend!

In The New York Times September 16, 1990, George Michael is quoted regarding this song: "No event inspired the song. It's my way of trying to figure out why it's so hard for people to be good to each other. I believe the problem is conditional as opposed to being something inherent in mankind. The media has affected everybody's consciousness much more than most people will admit. Because of the media, the way the world is perceived is as a place where resources and time are running out. We're taught that you have to grab what you can before it's gone. It's almost as if there isn't time for compassion."

Tomorrow, October 7th, 2020, is the start of the 30th anniversary of when George Michael took "Praying For Time" to #1 on Billboard Magazine's HOT 100 chart (I remember it well, because I thought no other song @ the time deserved to go to #1 as much as this one), and I think you are very much correct in that assessment Adam, six months later, unfortunately. (It was #1 from October 7th to 13th, 1990). Trying to hold on to hope myself with hopefully Trump's White House and campaign imploding, and Biden showing and reminding us here in the states what it is to be a true caring and patriotic President and with hopeful poll numbers to match. This October is going to be about as nerve racking to me as the one back 30-years ago when this song was #1.

What a genius this man was. This song was released almost 25 years ago. Yet the lyrics are playing out in real time today. Men and women are lovers of themselves. “The rich declare themselves poor,and most of us aren’t sure if we have too much. But, we’ll take the chance cause Gods stopped keeping score”. You cling to the things that they sold you, did you cover your eyes when they told you that he can’t comeback, cause he has no children to come back for”. Such relevant lyrics. We have turned our backs on God and we have no one to thank but ourselves. George was right. Maybe we should all be praying for time. George’s time was cut short and he was taken too soon. Don’t make the same mistake. Thanks for the music, George. You are sorely missed.

Robert Acquarulo Great vocalist yes, as a performer he had nothing There can be only one Freddie Mercury!
@duckfowl53275 жыл бұрын
@@guillermohernandez2842 Idk, Freddie imo is better but George Michael still is just as amazing. It's the fact that Freddie was in a band and George wasn't imo. He wrote everything by himself, hence less hits than Queen. I still believe his live performance of Somebody To Love was the best of that song, ever. Even one of the best queen song performances, if not the best...
@robertacquarulo18505 жыл бұрын
@@guillermohernandez2842, of course I would have to respectfully disagree. George was a definite triple threat, good looks, excellent vocals both in the studio and live as we as a gifted dancer/performer which he got from his mom. With that being said, Freddy and Queen were exceptional as well. Happy Holidays to all you GM fans.

I was always a Rocker more than anything else...my favorite band of all time being Led Zeppelin, if that tells you anything. However I grew up in a house where music was always played, and in the 70's when I was a child I loved bands such as Abba, and The Bee Gees. Before the Rocker - there was the lover of Pop music. So I could never ignore any talent - no matter the genre. At least not in the last century. This century hasn't had much of anything to offer, as stars are now born overnight on talentless shows. Though back in the 80's - in the midst of everything that was going on in the music world, during my hardest Rockin days, there was this young man who sang so beautifully, and wrote so passionately that he too couldn't be ignored. I followed his career from the beginnings of WHAM through to his latter days as a solo artist, and was as saddened as most when I'd heard of his passing. What a loss. Thank You George for your music, and your humanity.

I won a trip to see him in concert in Chicago (I'm in Denver) in my early 20's in 1987. He has always been my favorite artist and I became an authentic Christian much later in life. Revelation 14:13 (Jesus speaking from the Throne in Heaven) “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!”” Revelation 14:13 NLT bible.com/116/rev.14.13.nlt Wow! So powerful and truly amazing! God's Word is light and life to those who read it and abide by it. Revelation 14:13 proclaims that once you give your life to Jesus, and have died and gone to heaven, your "deeds" will follow you -!!! George Michael gave so much money 💰 millions and millions to cancer charity's , children's charity's and many others. He always chose to remain an anonymous giver. His reward is now in heaven. I prayed for George for years to give his life to Christ and repent of his sin. God bless you George I love you forever ❤️
