This dog has quite a history of aggressive attacks. Due to the size, power, and aggression of this dog, IMO she should be euthanized sooner rather than later. He can always get another pit bull. This one would be a liability no matter who has her. The niece of a good friend had her arm nearly severed by a pit bull she adopted from a rescue. Turned out he'd already mauled two other people and the rescue just kept adopting him out. Destroy the bad ones, adopt out the good ones. It's selective breeding that makes them like this. If you own one it's your responsibility to know what you have and do whatever it takes to contain it securely.

We had the same problem here. Just luckily the dog never bit anyone. It did kill a few cats that we know of. The dog would run out the door when the kids opened the door and the only way the owners could catch it was by driving down the road telling her they were going for a ride. Being territorial is very true. They lived across the street from me and when she was out one time I went to get the mail and she came at me. It was a lunge and lots of barking. She only lunged if your back was to her. So I carried a stick and always took my dog out the back way. She was untrained and just allowed to do as she pleased. It was totally unfair to her.

My dog was raised right. And he's dog aggressive He's broke windows to get to dogs but they were always on my property or in my fence or in my garage. But I also take every precaution so that those things don't happen like baby gate doors when I'm not at home so that he can't get to windows. Always having him on a leash not walking him in the front yard or in our neighborhood so he doesn't know where dogs may be. Only taking him in the backyard warning people that my dog's dog aggressive before I take him to the vet or if I see my neighbor's dog outside without a leash. And also exercising him enough and trying to train him with positive reinforcement when we see a dog just turn around and walk in the opposite way and not making any attention about another dog. Anytime he has ever attacked a dog though they were in my yard and once a dog was biting my kid and he broke out of the house to get to him. Loving your dog is also protecting other people's dog from your dog aggressive dog. Because God forbid if your dog kills another dog your dog can be put down and people don't realize that being a good dog owner and being a responsible owner is making sure that your dog doesn't hurt other dogs.

Oh if dogs were just robots and could be programmed. That lady talking to Harvey that said a chemical imbalance won't effect a dog if it's raised right must have flunked out of kindergarten. I'm not even saying that the chemical imbalance has anything to do with anything. Dogs are living creatures with their own rules and instincts. Even the kindest dog can act out under the right circumstance and there is no way of telling what might trigger them. I own 4 dogs and they all have very docile personalities but after sharing a bone or their toys for weeks and weeks just out of the blue on any given day they might have a quick fight over them. You can't tell what any living creature will do and you sure as hell can't program them.

I wish they could be programmed too! For 5000 years dogs successfully survived via pack mentality identical to the wolf. There were no fights as one alpha led the pack to hunt and travel daily. They never stayed in one place (that's why we need to walk them daily). 200 years ago we took over and bred them as working dogs. We've done a good job but need to better by watching a show like The Dog Whisperer or other free online tutorials. He teaches us to be the pack leader and create rules on the walk, in the home, etc. If we abdicate the pack leader role then the dogs will make up their own rules which is counter to the 5000 year old pack mentality in their DNA. In your case of 4 dogs you know which one is the dominant dog. If you address that dog (challenge him for the bone) by standing right in front of him while he has it in his mouth (don't stick your hand in his mouth) just corner him and say "drop it". Follow him around in a fenced in area and I guarantee you he will drop it. You then step on the bone and it's your bone now. He backs away and the other 3 learn. This will eliminate the fight over the bone which should not be happening. If one of your 3 submissive dogs has a bone then the alpha dog of yours knows how to get it away from him peacefully. He just approaches him and waits dominating him with his energy. The submissive dog growls with the bone in his mouth until he's physically and mentally tired out so he drops the bone. Dogs have been doing this for 5000 years. Identify the alpha dog and isolate him with one of your other dogs then toss a bone down and you'll see who is dominant and ends up with the bone. Then I'd suggest you take it from him. ALWAYS end the "game" with you possessing the bone. You're the top Alpha.

The defendant says it's not likely his dog that attacked because it didn't bite the plaintiff? American Pits were created & bred for gameness & agility; for fighting other dogs, but at the same time they had to be gentle with people, because a fighting dog that bit a human was immediately put down. (breeding line cancelled out) Gameness means they don't give up even under tremendous pain. That's why beating them does not make them let go. It's why they can be sweet & gentle, but genetics may take over one day no matter how they've been treated & trained, so it's a gamble. (And that moronic defendant is proud of his vicious dog being "king of the neighborhood" & hurting other dogs. Horrible person.)

True. In a pit fight you have both handlers and the referee. The dogs are expected to be handleable and not redirect onto their owners. They are supposed to be handleable by people, and those who bite or attempt to bite the handlers or the ref are generally shot. However, if the dog is a valuable fighter that may not happen. When you do rescue you learn about all kinds of things you never really wanted to know.

I guarantee you will get prison time especially with that many prior incidents!!!

Update on the defendant: He most likely has never learned his lesson. He has gone to jail twice since this has aired. Once in 2017 for unlawful possession of a firearm(was loaded) and a minor drug offense. Second time was in 2019 and was charged as an accomplice to a robbery.

Socializing dogs while they are puppies is absolutely crucial.
@Hardin9 Жыл бұрын
But is it even possible to socialize breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweillers, and Dobermans that are naturally aggressive? This is why I argue those particular breeds should not be allowed to live in civilization, they should be in sanctuaries.
@Meg-my3un Жыл бұрын
@@Hardin9 the people who fail Pitbulls and other aggressive breeds the most are inexperienced, young men who think having a vicious looking dog is a statement. These folks don’t train their Pitbulls, they’re only an accessory to them. I’ve seen many cases of such young men and women down here in the RGV who bring their dogs into our Vet clinic who are extremely vicious and literally OWN their owners. You can bet these dogs have never been properly socialized

In a perfect world all owners of power breeds should have to pass a test issued by Cesar Milan who has taught us since 2005 how to socialize them to be submissive.@@Hardin9
@MusicTennis Жыл бұрын
In a perfect world every Rescue org, Shelter, Foster, Vet, should be issued DVD's of Cesar Milan's show from 2005. Hand them out to the dog owners. I appreciate what you do at the Vet Clinic. Cesar has many episodes where he brings a very aggressive dog (who is muzzled) with the client and works with the Vet. The first mistake the Vet makes is crouching down, giving eye contact to the dog and says "Hi fella". Cesar corrects the Vet and explains the "No Talk, No Touch, No Eye Contact" strategy. He has the dog remain (laying down/submissive) and on the leash then asks the Vet to stand quietly, calm with no eye contact then he drops the leash and the dog smells the Vet right thru the muzzle. He senses the Vet as a non threat. Now they are ready to enter the exam room and one hand remains on the collar at all times. If the dog makes any wrong move (growl, struggle, whimper) during a vaccine, a thermometer up his rear, he's corrected by Cesar who tugs the collar and says NO! It's the job of the client to learn this and assist (protect the Vet). The Client has the responsibility to dominate their own dog not the Vet. Eventually a food reward can be used and muzzle can be removed for teeth inspection. Dog learns the trip to the Vet is a positive rewarding experience and automatically becomes submissive at the Vet Clinic in order to get the treat. @@Meg-my3un

@@Hardin9 totally possible. All 3 of those breeds can be wonderful, friendly dogs. They just need the right owner. From what I’ve read, Dobermans were bred to be guard dogs, so can be “aggressive” when defending their home and/or humans. Rottweilers were bred for a similar purpose: guarding livestock. Again, from what I’ve read, They’re known for being very sweet to their owners, but can be nervous and defensive with strangers, and will protect their owners if need be. When properly trained, both are wonderful breeds who don’t deserve the bad reputation.

This Makes absolutely no sense. What are they waiting for? For the dog to get out and maul a kid? I love dogs. I even have a pitbull myself. Although she's super sweet and amazingly trained, I keep her on a leash at all times. No exceptions, because its always better to be safe than sorry.
