Hey Darren, I love that online stopwatch idea. I have a 55' TV in my office and I'm going to put the stopwatch on it and clean up for one hour. Thanks so much.

Revolutionary good points. A whole paradigm shift. New Normal. Thank you for putting into clear directions what I have been unconsciously driving at. Now I know the path. Thanks for lighting it up.

I've been applying your model to a wide range of areas of "challenge". I like your video because it clarified a few things. Thanks for the video, and great style in presentation.

The idea of getting rid of so many items a day worked pretty well for me. One day I realized that number wasn’t high enough and I had to kick it up. If I cant do it daily it must add up by the end of the week. We are preparing to sell our house so this method is helping and Ive really ramped it up. The side benefit is that it feels so good to rid myself of the extra stuff that I now have empty boxes under my dining room table ready and waiting to be filled with the things I cant seem to find a home for. If I don’t have a home for the item it means I don’t need or want it as much as other items I own. Its like a second rate item. I decided I only want FIRST rate items. My home is looking better that it has ever looked. Another thing I do regularly now is get the stuff out of the house right away. This way it cant go back into the clutter. I am donating things (carloads mostly) twice per week. I grocery shop near a Goodwill and always make sure I have something ready to drop off on my shopping day. Thanks for sharing. Very good advice. My office is the last thing on the list of rooms and I am almost there. It feels awesome and I feel like I am getting my power back. I cant stress how good it feel to purge.

I've been absolutely hooked on organizing, decluttering, hoarding, cleaning videos, of all types, you name it. This is the first one I remember talking about this scale of the space between tolerance and where you're wanting to be at and moving it down to a new normal. I had decluttered 2 years ago. I stopped when I had done a loooot of work, and needed to get a break. Now I'm doing it again (got sick in between so it was harder to focus on it) and what I'm finding out, is that I'm throwing out a lot of very old things I decided to keep back then. I like to go over everything I decided to keep and really ask again and again if I absolutely love it, and often I can get rid of more and more from the SAME places! From the same stuff I looked over many times before. It's because, I think, of the clarity that comes after having decluttered from it before. You can see it in a better way if you really want the item. And you start getting more good questions for it as you get more trained in this decluttering thinking. I used to be a packrat, and now I am pretty sure I can call myself a minimalist. I don't count my stuff, I have lots of things, but they are all important and I'm not feeling the stress anymore. I never thought I would say this! And I even have empty space! Yes, I like to declutter even if I have the space for it and it's a nice item. If I don't like it, it doesn't serve a purpose, then empty space is far better than keeping those things. I will be much more free in reorganizing and welcoming new things to my life that way. Now I don't think decluttering is a chore, it is a way to feel better in my apartment and to feel lighter, and I get excited to feel like that so it becomes fun. Watching videos like this helps make it fun too! ((clutter also costs square footage)

The more that you do it, the easier it becomes +Harmon McCraw, & then you'll think why did I ever think I needed it. Hoarding is a mental illness that is curable, you just have to want to do it. Even start off by doing 1 hour per day, & start on one room. Once that room is done however long it takes, then move on to another room.If stuff doesn't have a home , then that stuff is only stuff, & it's not really needed.

You're so right Harmon McCraw, & well done.Be proud of yourself & give yourself a huge pat on the back. Keep doing what your doing , but remember to take breaks. It's a very stressful thing to do, but yes it's so very liberating. Concentrate on one room at a time, get that finished, then move on to another room. Your not in a marathon

There are several tips on ways to de-clutter Allow yourself five minutes every day to tidy up Give away one item every day Fill up a trash bag now! Make a list of what to do this week. Buy four sacks and sort everything into trash, give away, keep, or relocate. (I read these and the reasons they work on Nilah declutter tips website )
