Looking through the comments, if you could EASILY do this, it would be great... Put all the pieces parts on a flat surface (table, workbench, etc.). Do a dry fit assembly (or even a real one if you want) to demonstrate the process. Some DIYers won't need it, but less experienced folks could definitely benefit from it!! This is a great video!! I just want to say that, thanks to you, I got rid of a nest of voles that tore my beautiful lawn apart in less than a month. Don't believe some of the YT vids that sale voles only eat roots. I got the fish flavored bait. It did take about a week to ten days before they chomped on it. I almost gave up as none of the other "cures" were working either. Then, BOOM! I first noticed the grass was growing back. Went and looked at the traps and, surprise, had to refill them.

Yes. I also made these pvc traps years ago and they do work. When the neighbor across the road cut his fields the field mice would cross the road to my property I didn't know someone else knew about these bait feeders. Thanks for sharing.

Thank god for KZbin. I have been in an epic battle against voles. I am going to drive 25 miles to town today to get supplies. I watched most of my winter garden just disappear one cabbage at a time down their holes. Pest control is so expensive but necessary.

This works! Had to overcome some pesky raccoons by lengthening the 2" horizontal tubes and then hose-clamping the trap to some rerod stakes hammered into the ground, but within a week all the voles are gone. I used the apple flavored bait - and they couldn't eat it fast enough. Have not seen any mice or chipmunks around either. I filled all the old vole holes and none have been re-opened. Not only will this save my vegetable garden this summer, but my lawn and bushes once there's snow on the ground.

I do not like everything about anything, I guess, so I will not complain about those things that do not affect the good I am getting. We have lilac bush, mums, hostas, and peonies that have all been killed or extreme stunting of growth. They even run across our patio if we happen to be sitting there and not talking. A simple double fence, one 4 feet high and a similar fence inside about three feet inside. Will stop most any deer. Instead of wire on the inside fence I use white cord or nylon twine, the deer see it and don't want to jump into it.

I can't use baits. I have a dog, and my neighbors also have dogs, so poisons are a no-go for me. Instead, I'm using steel rat traps (Made2catch) and cheap peanut butter. I'm knocking them out, averaging about four rodents a day, including field mice, deer mice, and voles. I set the traps near holes and on runs, cover them with large flower pots, buckets, or other containers large enough to cover the traps but still allow the voles and mice to get in, and check my trap lines every day. Yesterday, I took four fat voles. The day before, two voles and a field mouse. That's what works for me. I've also got a Tomcat vole trap that has taken about a vole a day for two weeks now. It has been set in the ground in a vole run and for two weeks now, it has done the job. There was only one day that nothing was in it, and I attribute that to there being no voles running through that tunnel that day. There is no need to bait it. It goes into the run and when a vole passes through it, it slams shut. The thing cost seventy-five bucks (!!!!), but dang it! It works!

You don't need hot wire on top for deer. If they do anything, they will jump the fence, even at 8 feet, clear and clean. Several things will discourage them like not being able to see the landing area on the other side, seeing difficult and risky landing area through the fencing, not being able to see the fencing (like chicken wire) and other things you can see and learn about on KZbin. My garden fencing is 5 feet with the top one foot hanging over to the outside; it confuses them and keeps climbing critters from going over. 10 years, no problems except from the squirrels. Love the vole traps.

I was exactly the same, NEVER encounted voles in 60 years of gardening. Lilies at $6 each,100 tulips crocus eaten, roses at 50$ a pop destroyed, clematis. Apple trees attacked barely survived. Heartbreaking.

Great video. I’ve been building and using bait stations like this for over 10 years now with excellent results. I place them around my orchard during winter to keep the voles from girdling my young trees. I haven’t lost a single tree since I started using these. Mine are a more rudimentary design, just 1-1/4” tee with about 2’ top with a slip on cap and 8” on each of the ends. I cut the ends on a slight angle to create a little overhang to help keep some of the water out. I don’t use a rod in the tube, just stack the bait in the top and it works out just fine.

Arkansas has so many critters but we deal with them. Here is a tip I use to keep rabbits and deer plus other things out of my garden. IRISH SPRING SOAP. Get a bunch of bars. Grate them with cheese grater and sprinkle Irish Spring all around and in garden. Deer & rabbit hate the smell we all love so much. Loved you little contraption....awesome video

I used 2" pvc schedule 40 pipe 8 ft to make two bait stations. You will need a 2" "T" plus a 2" cap for each station. I bought 3/16" all thread rod 3 ft long but you will cut it to length (18"). (1) 3/16" nut and (2) washers and a 3/16" wing nut at the bottom of the all thread. Hope this helped.

Didn't think I had a problem until the other night when I discovered they've gotten into my stash of rice. That made me very angry because food prices certainly aren't coming down any time soon and these things are as stealthy as they come. I never knew they could be so smart. I've got traps set all over the place and it's as if they just sit there and laugh at them whenever they come across one. I had one lick sticky peanut butter clean off of one of them WITHOUT tripping the trap at all. They seem to know to avoid the tried and true method that worked for generations until now. @arkansasprepper here is the easiest way I’ve found to keep deer from eating my garden (without fence): put a bale of alfalfa out there. Deer come into my garden every single night, walk past my tomatoes and eat the bale. I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills, so there isn’t a ton of lush vegetation in the summer but they still prefer the dry alfalfa to nice moist veggies.

We got rid of a very large infestation on our 2 acre irrigated yard. Bought a bag of gopher and vole poison pellets at out local farm and ranch store. Took 2 sections of the rigid shop vac tubes and a funnel and I would stick the tube down every little hole and the wife would dump a small scoop of pellets in each one. No bending over and it got the pellets down in a ways. It really worked.

I remember reading that voles love water. I came across an old comment that the gardener put in a preformed pond and it was not quite full, and everyday he found many voles who got in and drowned. This is what I am going to try first. I see how well this would work, but I adjoin state gamelands.

To keep your vegetables safe cut a 6” deep by 3” wide trench around your garden and fill it with gravel. It will stop anything from tunneling in. Thanks for your video I am trying to save my dad’s yard from these little stinkers.

Sounds good at first, but giving it some thought, why wouldn't they just walk right across the gravel? After all, they don't only tunnel. I think if something looks good enough on the other side of the gravel "moat", voles would certainly walk across it.

We are troubled with voles but when they eat poison then owls, hawks, and cats catch and eat them and then THEY die. We had a sick Great Horned Owl in our yard and after seeing this I won’t use poisons. Not good.

I know this is four years ago but had to say.This bait is AWESOME! I had mice/ rats getting in my shed.This stuff killed them dead.The only thing is the smell when they die.I have another shed they were burrowing UNDER so I dropped the bait in the hole and sealed up the hole. The tuff shed have manufactured run off holes in it at the bottom. They were getting in there to nest so I sealed those holes off.Im telling you most suckers gave me a run for my money lol I know they are sneaky so EVERDAY I look around that shed. Awesome bait its pricey but worth evey penny! I can make a commercial for it😅🤣

you can make a mix of oatmeal, plaster of paris, and brown sugar that will kill them but not the birds of prey. then just put it in a self feeding tube that goes in instead of a rod. maybe a smaller piece of pvc with a cap on the end and two semi-circle holes cut out of the bottom? that would feed the mix down but keep them from just taking a bunch all at once.

I have a cure for your deer problem and it won't cost you all that much. Use Irish Spring soap (the original scent) around your property. I had the same problem here where I live in New Hampshire. Deer and many other types of animals hate the smell of Irish Spring. I tale a large bar of the soap, cut it in half, place that half in an old sock, or the bottom part of a panty hose, or you can even use a bird suet basket that you can buy at any Walmart store and place them on a low hanging branch, or in a bush or you can tie them on a stake and stake in in the ground. Place these around your property and you won't be bothered with deer problems anymore. When the soap starts wearing, don't throw it away, just keep adding more soap. I did this to my property and I no longer have deer problems.

My hubby made four of these and I’ve gone through about 20 baits so far. The first ones got moldy before they were gone just because we had nothing but rain the first six weeks of spring. Now they’re eating them up. It’s awesome. This is the ONLY thing that has worked. None of those stupid traps work at all! My final straw was them killing my young Ginkgo tree that I had grown for 10 years. I had NO idea I had a problem until then. My hostas all disappeared this summer too. I’m done. I don’t care if I kill every mouse or vole in the area! 😡😡 thank you!!!

Hawks greatly prefer to kill their own food. They like their meat as fresh as possible. You won't find them eating animals that are already dead too often but It is possible.

I did not make my tubes quite as long as yours, but hopefully the voles are not into design and architecture. Whole thing cost me $25 plus a bag of Ramik and took less than 10 minutes to make. The Ramik arrives tomorrow so I will get it out there by Saturday. Can’t wait.

Arg! I bought the wrong bait. I accidentally got the pellets instead of the bars. Oh well, I don’t have and outdoor pets so I closed up end of the trap and put the pellets in. Squirrels can’t get in it. If the voles take it back home that’s okay I suppose. But if the leave it out the only worry might be the deer and, well, I’m going to worry too much. The next bag I’ll get the tubes.

What is the purpose of using the threaded rod to hold the Ramic? I was thinking of using the same pipe setup without the threaded rod. Considering inserting a Ramik bar 116334 into the tube. It wouldn't be supported by the rod and would sit in the bottom of the tube. A 4 pack of 1lb bars is $17 bucks, about half of the mini bars. Please comment if you folks think this a good or bad idea. We just got a house in the country. Our property is so infested with voles and mice. The mice we are able to get in bucket traps, but not the voles. The voles aren't the least bit afraid of us. They'll walk right past us while we are outside. My kids grab a large stick and whack them over the head when they see them. Our cats eat so many of them, but they don't seem to be putting a dent in the population. I'm hoping to get the issue under control as we we would like to start a garden in the spring. Are there any issues with an animal eating one of these voles after the vole has eaten the bate? I would hate to have our kittens or dog die.

Before I built my house, I did not have pets outside on the property. We had two house dogs and we walked them on leases. I am not sure that I would have placed these with outside pets. This works as a way to destroy the colony. I now have five outside barn cats. If you could secure the cats for a week this will solve your problems.

Well, rats are a different varmint than Voles. If you buy the bait I suggested you can place a nail through the hole. Place them all around your house. I do not know about rats?

All the vole baits around here are sachets of pellets. The only baits that are like the ones in your video and can be treaded on a rod are rat baits. Will these attract voles?

What are the lengths of the 3 pvc pipes? Looks like they are about 12" long each?

I realize this is several years old but anyone reading this comments, have you tried using a four-way at the base instead of just two pipes that way you wouldn't have to anchor and you could just move it around and set it down?

Ramik NEOGEN 116331. I used 2" pvc schedule 40 pipe 8 ft to make two bait stations. You will need a 2" "T" plus a 2" cap for each station. I bought 3/16" all thread rod 3 ft long but you will cut it to length (18"). (1) 3/16" nut and (2) washers and a 3/16" wing nut at the bottom of the all thread. Hope this helped.

I tell you one thing and my mom who is 62 says the same.. "If there is something you don't know how to do go look on youtube" I have done things from changin brakes/rotors to camping tips to plumbing basics to painting tips to fixing my old Coleman lanterns to whatever the hell else you want to know. Been down many cooking channeps even though i went to culinary school.. If ya cant do it go on youtube.. This type of instant search knowledge wasnt around when i was a kid.. You learned by somebody who knew or you went to a library.. That aint saying much as i am 36 years old but as far as cars i remember buy or renting a Chilton's manual based off your specific vehicle.. Or learnin how to read a Thomas Brothers before there was gps

What about moles and squirrels? will it work on them? I'm in the Desert, high temp here, southern ca and notice I have squirrels, been here 30's yrs and NEVER had squirrels, didn't know they could exist in our area since we are all desert here.

Do the poisoned voles die underground in their tunnels? Our cat is doing a great job, but we must have 100s on our property, I’m worried about my cat getting poisoned, although, I don’t think she’ll bother with dead ones, any advice is welcome, thx!
