Did a very quick summary, hope this helps! 5 steps 1. Capture Capture action items/information so you don't need to remember it 2. Process: Is it actionable? A. Yes? 2mins or less? Do it. Slower? List to prioritise B. No? Keep it as a reference or discard 3. Organise: What is the next possible action? Project (group together) Time (calendar) Context (groceries etc) Non-actionable - store to revisit 4. Review: review action items and make adjustments Weekly review of action items Monthly review of goals - are these actions helping to achieve goals? 5. Engage - do it! Calendar will tell you what you have coming, project list will have actions that you need to do

I read the book forever ago & it changed my life (with Evernote). But I fell off the GTD wagon when I quit my job to focus on family. Now its many years later, I've gone back to work, and once again I'm drowning in all my To Do's. Unfortunately, Evernote seems to have lost it's sparkle... it's no where near as useful as it seemed back in the day, when it first came out. And even GTD methodology feels lacking. The book is longer & more complicated than it needs to be, I agree! But these summary videos aren't enough of refresher for me, either... it still hasn't "clicked" for me yet. Sigh. I will keep at it, but this GTD shit seems even harder when it's your 2nd time around.

You can also call is a 'brain dump'! I like that term better. You dump everythng out of your brain and then sort it out.
@barbroberts754 жыл бұрын
I think this summary and video is really helpful. Sometimes "capturing" is done by listing on a computer, sometimes by taking photos, sometimes by taking screendumps, sometimes by voice memos. It is not always by writing things down in a list. The whole point is that you capture them to process them. How you do it is up to you. GTD is neither proscriptive nor prescriptive. It is a system in which you build your own processes for getting your things done! So to Successful by Design, well done and keep up the good work! I think you captured the essence and the spirit of GTD.

I feel my major block is my natural instinct to delay addressing actionable tasks because now is not the right time. It feels too hasty to do what I should be doing NOW, versus later. I feel my chance of success is greater if I wait for a better time, but then I either forget it or it gets jumbled in my the other 40 small tasks I've deferred, then I have to spend time prioritizing the list. Hey, thanks for the video! I have a question. My mind is always coming up with new ideas. I capture those ideas and move on with my day, but that results in having a huge inbox every time I go to tackle it, and I almost never actually get it empty before it's time to move on. This keeps me from doing a weekly review because even in only one week my system has inflated massively. What do you suggest as a way to rein this in? A lot of the things I think of and write down are what I call "protocols" which are just better or different ways to do what I'm already doing. So I have a whole tag for just that. But those aren't really actionable. I can't check them off a list. Do you have any tips for how to handle this?

I have the EXACT SAME problem. I have all of the good and right ideas for my life and advancement, but they get captured and sit there. It's overwhelming. I keep hand notes mostly, and Google Sheets. It's not good. I'm switching to Trello and Evernote

Interesting problem indeed. I would start by scheduling a specific (weekly?) time that is dedicated to the processing only of these new ideas. That should help reduce the load dramatically. And maybe keep them in their own inbox instead of the master one so you keep things neat and productive.

I would create a special time to process all of those. And Evernote is awesome, that is what I use personally :)
