I wonder if "Unfeathered" refers to Umaril being "not Aedric," since Auriel is described as eagle-like, right? Thus, the Aldmer probably thought of themselves as "children of Auriel," and thus "feathered," which would also explain their preference towards bird iconography. But it would also explain why Umaril is Unfeathered, because he's Daedric, an Auroran. Therefore, not a child of Auriel, and ergo "Unfeathered."

Regarding harpies and their relationship to men/mer, there's a quest featuring them in the Alik'r Desert in ESO. A woman rescues a young harpy from being killed by mercenaries. The harpy is not aggressive to her or to you. Later the woman is attacked by mercenaries, and she and some others are rescued by the harpies - the one she helped brought her friends to return the favour. You can then ask one of them for a ride back to town. So that's another example of them having non-violent interactions with men without featuring Argonian/harpy...relations.

That's really cool, I like that inclusion in the lore. ESO has definitely done, and continues to do a lot of good when it comes to Elder Scrolls lore. I wasn't sure about it in the beginning (as I know a lot of people weren't), probably because we started off on a rough foot with the bizarre alliances, but especially in hindsight, ESO has done wonders for filling out and expanding upon the history, lore, and religious pantheons of pretty much every culture and race on Tamriel. They've kept the series fresh as we wait for TES VI. Like could you imagine having zero new lore come out between Skyrim and TES VI, aside from maybe Legends and Blades? Would've been rough, no doubt about it.

Something else interesting about the sload is their relationship with magic. The way people use magic in TES is sometimes portrayed as emotional, or at least explorative of the way the individual relates to the natural order around them. Sload wouldn't have any concept of it, so their means of interfacing with magicka would be entirely logic-based. It would be interesting to see how a sload understands and interprets magical forces. Maybe magic is inherently logical and the rest of the races are simply stumbling through it?

So Sload magic is effectively Dwemer magic, but less sound and more slug?

My interpretation of the elder scrolls is that the origins of the universe or just the world itself are more logical and scifi. Keep getting a nagging feeling that magic is more of a psionic phenomenon and magical traditions just help focus the phenomenon for other cultures.

@@MidoriOfTheShuinsen Well, kind of. The Dwemer magic was a thing of its own, more akin to high level understanding of physics than actual magi as we know it. The Sload are masters of Conjuration in the form that is recognizable to other magic users. It's like learning languages. If you're an English speaker it's easier to learn German than Chinese. Sload magic whilst different has recognizable elements, like German has similarities with English. Dwemer magic is so alien and foreign and different that you basically have to learn it from ground zero, bc just like with English and Chinese, there isn't a single similarity.

I thought the Lamia was Hyena based. But for the ancient greeks, they would have assumed the hyena was a canine. So I guess that still works with what I was taught.
@mophia339
@mophia339 Жыл бұрын
@@kyleellis1825 Hyenas are a Sub-Saharan species, the Greeks only performed a few expeditions down past the desert, even then they went by ocean, the most notable creatures they came across were the Gorillai, a tribe of hairy "women" they discovered off the western coast of Africa. The Greeks already had plenty of contact with wolves, the werewolf as we now know it first appeared in ancient Greece and Rome, in ethnographic, poetic and philosophical texts. In 425 BC, the ancient Greek historian Herodotus described the Neuri, a nomadic tribe of magical men who changed into wolf shapes for several days of the year. The Neuri were from Scythia, the land that is now part of Russia. Using wolf skins for warmth is not outside the realm of possibility for inhabitants of such a harsh climate: this is likely the reason Herodotus described their practice as “transformation”. The werewolf myth became integrated with the local history of Arcadia, a region of Greece. Here, Zeus was worshipped as Lycaean Zeus (“Wolf Zeus”). There are dozens of wolf and werewolf like creatures and stories in Greek mythology, they even had entire cults dedicated to the worship of wolves, it's far more likely the Lamia's appearance was based off of the Eurasian wolf, rather than the Hyena.

@@kyleellis1825 incorrect, Hyenas are a Sub-Saharan species, the striped hyena can be found in Egypt in modern times, in fact, the native population of Egypt is only 1000-2000 individuals, and was only higher when the Egyptians bred them for food, however they stopped that practice far before contact with the Greeks. In fact the Golden Wolf is far more populous, along with other wolf species around the Mediterranean region, stop trying to make Hyenas work when the myth doesn't list the Lamia as having hyena traits, but wolf traits.

M La Tourrette Ok so what I’m thinking is that the Nerevar was there when the Dwemer vanished. Nerevar discovered the Numidium and in an attempt to impress him, Kagrenac struck the heart and they all vanished. Either by seeing it firsthand or by putting two and two together Nerevar himself figured out that forbidden knowledge and zero summed himself. No battle, dwarves and Nerevar are gone, Tribunal come looking for him only to discover everyone gone, Kagrenacs tools but no Kagrenac. Still refining the theory but I feel like there’s something to it

I'm surprised that when talking about Dreugh and Lyg you guys didn't mention that Lyg, according to an AMA that Michael Kirkbride did over on Reddit, is an "Adjacent Place", a parallel version of Tamriel which can only be reached by sliding sideways in some unusual manner, only being entered through its "non-cardinal" directions. While not super important to the Lore of the Dreugh themselves, the fact that this part of their origin basically confirms alternate realities/versions of Tamriel (and the possibly of there even being a multiverse comprised of many of these Adjacent Places) as a consequence is pretty significant to the cosmology as a whole in my opinion! I know, in the end, it isn't super important in the grand scheme of things but I just find it a super interesting tidbit...

Look into Kalpa and Dragon Break on the wikis, Kalpa is basically the end-time/resetting of the universe and Dragon Breaks are when timelines split off from eachother, messing with reality

The only other thing I can think of that possibly relates to the lilmothiit is the pirates of Akavir. As you mentioned, the lilmothiit are nomadic and maybe didn't originate from Black Marsh. The pirates of Akavir are said to contain canine and rat-like beastfolk. Not to mention, soldiers who happen to be an Akaviri man race were guarding a prison area in Blackrose, one of the likely colonies of the Lilmothiit. Yep, it's possible that Blackrose and Liilmoth were colonies of an Akaviri dogfolk race. So frankly, if people want to play as a lilmothiit in the Elder Scrolls games or at least see them without modding, they'll have to wait until the canon next invasion of Tamriel by the Akavir, cause an Elder scrolls set in Akavir is much less likely. Edit: The Lilmothiit are also likely not the race's name. A name I could think of that will obviously not happen, but it's fun to speculate is the Anuviik stemming from the hindu words anubhavee naavik meaning sea dog, which would fit with the asian theme of Akavir. NOTE: I AM JUST SCREWING AROUND HERE, THIS IS NOT THE CANON NAME!

The original Greek spelling of Lamia is "Λάμια" with the stress over the _first_ vowel. And it is with an α (a short vowel that make an "ah" sound) instead of an η (a long vowel which makes an "ay" sound) or an α followed by an ι (a diphthong which would make the same "ay" sound). So, since it is spelled "Λάμια", and not "Λημια" or "Λαιμια" (Scott's pronunciation), and neither is it "Λαμία" (with the stress over the ι, Drew's pronunciation), that means Michael's pronunciation ("LAH-me-uh") is the correct one.

As an answer to Drew: Balancing in single player RPG is necessary for good encounter/dungeon, enemy and progression design it's also there to reduce the chance that a specific race, skill or whatever becomes the "only build to play," or general gamebreaking reasons. We can talk about roleplaying how much we like, but most gamers, roleplayers included tend to gravidate towards powergaming. On the other hand you want to avoid situations where something becomes too weak. Too weak options and then a player will feel that they are punhished for their RP choices and potentially discouraged from straying away from the "powerful builds," unlesse they are into "challenge mode gameplay."

@@jjtomecek1623 Yeah, since I played mostly vanilla skyrim on my ps3 when I had my ps4 I enjoyed simple mods like the conjuration spells for elemental bows, that's quite cool for a mage warrior build, that's using only conjured weapons (I love the crossbow for the elemental ammunitions you can make) Stealth is quite powerful yeah, but in vanilla you can play stealth as a mage anyways with silent spells haha, I had a nice mage in clothes high elf with atronach to tank and distract while I spammed fireballs from afar, quite fun to play, and chalenging since I put almost all stat levelling on mana and litle on hp so an error kills you fast) Mods for rolepaying are nice, since it's quite hard to not fall into a stealth archer in vanilla when you find out it's so cool to play and you have to restrict yourself in a sense to not use that (if you're not used to rpgs and sticking to a role) I remember havin started a new game to play full steath archer when I discovered that it was so op, and do the dark brotherhoos with this character Then I came back to my first main character, a warrior with destruction, restoration, and sword But yeah I do understand the "always fall into stealth archer" memes

Could it be that the elves venerated the birds, as to why they take inspiration from parts of there culture since they view some of their gods as eagles. Kind of like the Nord's venerating the dragons. Perhaps a previous plague wiped them out kind of like the Vulpine people. Also could the snake ladies be the hist creating a clan of argonians from the akaviory races.

To me, it seems like evolution works kind of in reverse in The Elder Scrolls universe. Life starts with the almighty gods, who gave birth to the Ehlnofey and the Hist. And they give birth to the mortal races. Mortal races since then have gotten less intelligent and less powerful over time. In early times, you have a race of Dwemer, whose technology remains unmatched to the present day. They were experimenting with things like space and time travel. But they died out. Then you have the Falmer, who also began as an intelligent race, and later became the beast-like shells of their former selves. Even giants appear to be a semi-intelligent race, and there are theories they and Nords may have a common ancestry. It seems like the longer time goes on, the more corrupted a lifeform becomes. The Dreugh probably went through something similar. They began as an intelligent race, being one of three races we know of that somehow survived a previous Kalpa. But at some point, it seems they lost their intelligence, becoming like simple animals. Maybe that is why the Kalpa is necessary, to give life a fresh start so that all the intelligent races don't devolve into animals.

I can't stop obsessing over the idea that some of the daedra besides molag bal instead of being the origins of beast races as some might think but instead originate from some of the other beast races from a previous cycle that managed to use one of the many ways to side step the cycle with their own realm

If Molag Bal ruled over the dreugh, maybe a lot of the water races of Tamriel used to be the "main" races, like the Dreugh, the Sload, and maybe Maomer, and perhaps that tower the remnant of a tower which upheld the universe in a previous cycle with a different mythology. The absence of the sea god could be because Molag Bal was a big sea god as The Ruddy Man, and any other sea gods could have been vilified (and this would carry ovwr is the end of the last kalpa overlaps with the start of the other, the gods of the last kalpa are the tyrants struck down and the heros of this kalpa become the new gods who will onr day be overthrown). Those gods could become daedra in the next kalpa or go roaming off in Oblivion, Aetherius, adjacent places like Lyg, or maybe even just weird cosmic void.

Their most likely not cross fertile. Their matting, breeding and pregnancy are way to interwoven with the hist. Hell even if they could interbreed the hist might just stop it. But if the question is can they fuck that is a yes. Plus it really should be asked can we get a mixed kajit, can we get a cat girl. At least the kajit are much less restricted in freedoms because their just off the moon (and their own plain) and not omnipotent trees who use you as their seeds and mana. The thing is don’t fuck a dude kajit they got spiked dicks, so it’s aperently vary painfull.

I assumed at the time I played the game, '06 or '07, whatever it was, that Umaril was called "unfeathered" because he didn't follow the 8 Divines of the Aldmeri religion, and as such wasn't a follower of the Eagle God Auriel (which seems to be where the other Aylieds got their "feather" motifs), nor was he a pure descendent of the "Aedra (Ancestors)," since his father was a god from a previous Universe and he allowed Meridia to change him entirely (making her a secondary mother of sorts).

Wouldn’t the whirlpool that occurred at Thras be the Maelstrom of Bal that is mentioned to be east of Thras and is possibly a portal to oblivion. Theory about the Lilmothit, humanoid vulpines are a pretty eastern thing in real life so could be that they where a nomadic people that migrated to Tamriel from Akavir, perhaps due to being hunted by another one of the races there or some such and ended up landing on the shores of Black marsh and founding these 2 settlements and that is why they are known as nomadic people as everything else said about them condraticts there supposed nomadic nature as nomads do not usually form settlments and they most certainly do not stay in 2 places, if it where true they would have spread out towards the rest of tamriel and meaning some would have survived the disease. I would very much like to see this race explored in future games, not necessarily as a playable race, you'd need to a soft reboot sort of thing to introduce this, but as 1 or a group of survivors from their race, my idea is that a group of Lilmothit approached one of the Daedric princes to have mercy on their children and this Daedric prince decided to take them in, either a small group or a single child who then becomes the Daedric princes champion in a DLC or something where you have to either team up or kill him or hell if they where a "tribe" have them appear back on Tamriel and start a war with the argonians for wiping out they're ancestors (This could even be a reason as to why they're a playable race now that I think about it). The Daedric prince btw I personally think should be Peryite , he is the god of disease after all and he can easily cure it as much as spread it or he was angry with the argonian shaman who created a disease against his wishes, this would also give Peryite a chance to shine like the other prices that played a bigger role (though perhaps Clavicus Vile and even Namira could work).

I subscribe to the theory that "The Unfeathered" is a title applied to Umaril after his battle with Pelinal by Humans as an insult. Considering that _The Song of Pelinal_ was written in the second era, and most likely by a Human, and was made from collected fragments of older Human-Written texts on the topic, its very likely that it wasn't written to portray Elves or Umaril in a favorible light, leading to them applying the moniker "the Unfeathered" to him because it was what one of the older human texts referred to him as.

Idk if it’s been said, but in our ancient times, to have wings means that it was a divine creature (angels, winged serpents, etc.) since Umeril has divine ancestry, him being unfeathered could be that he has that divine ancestry but is mortal
