The fact that the young man thinks that "misunderstood" is a "big" word speaks to your point. Today's music has it's place and it is great to hear Gil's voice after so long. Perhaps the young man who clearly relates to Lil Wayne's music could relate--my own tastes aside-- if Lil Wayne were to go away for a couple of decades. It is one thing to be clever and many rappers are--it is another thing entirely to be thoughtful and wise and few are in Gil's company in that realm.

Bear in mind that the lyrics were written in the 1930s, by the man who also gave us 'Love in Vain', 'Crossroads', and 'Sweet Home Chicago' amongst others. I believe that 'Poor Bob' would approve of this...

@KOSMICKEN09 I completely agree. That comment I made was in response to someone who came in here and called this song garbage, called us all stupid, and made the statement that real music isn't sad, real music is something you can dance to in the club. Then he said something or other about Lil Wayne. The guy was an idiot so I tore him a new one.

@neshbabii And I am a Muslim and I pray everyday also fast for 30 days every year during Ramadan I'm also wondering the same thing you are wondering if it's wrong or not. But maybe it could be the song is not about praising the devil maybe it could be that he is talking about how people get led to the wrong path or something, I mean after all it's too much ugliness in this world and it could probably be what he is talking about.

One thing I don't like about this version, is that they edited a line from the original song. The line in the original "Me and the Devil Blues" went thus: "I'm going to beat my woman, 'till I get satisfied" The line in this version: "I'm going to see my woman, 'till I get satisfied" The original line isn't pleasant, but that's the point. The song is about a man walking with the devil, and this version especially carries the dark subject matter into the sound, it's dark, it's moody, why on earth would you lighten up the lyrics? It just creates a dissonance and doesn't make nearly as much sense.
@chrissk088 жыл бұрын
It can still be taken in a different context. He's using his woman for his own gratitude. Lust. Selfishness. Still devilish in a similar manner.
@RaVenDaWn9996 жыл бұрын
Thank you Squig Pie, that slice of truth makes this song more as it projects, a beam of pure darkness, I have seen the crossroads, I took no shortcuts, went through the bayou, snapping jaws and my soul just a piece of floss for their causes, murder me in the 187, just a number, locks the gates and heaven can wait, I have hell to raise, at the last of my days, I raise hell so high we have to jump to reach it; and most will, for nary a promise, a painted ideal, a cheap thrill, and time to die, or time to kill. Savvy that mate, beyond here there be monsters. E X I L E I -AM -IN -EXILE! I am in exile, as I touch the Earth and become marble. I make a statue of myself and forget which is which. I am in exile, where my reflection stares at me glossy eyed …..and I turn to see it. EXILE! In an attempt to reflect eternity I face the mirrors exactly. Yet, in an effort to see forever my own face gets in the way. Here in my exile, lobotomy disagrees with me. The rivers running red as... propaganda peddlers pretend to be U.N. M.D.s; and with rusty razor blades perform mental vasectomies on misguided missionaries. I -AM -IN -EXILE!!! Where I mind you watching me, and I’ve planned my invisibility as you’ve planned my blindness. Exile! Where I feed you your dreams… …and you eat them, unknowing. Exile… where I stab a scab And I’m bleeding wax. Exile… where fragrant flowers grow lush over my grave but I am not in it. I -AM -IN -EXILE!!!
@RaVenDaWn9996 жыл бұрын
Real difference, as I just heard another version, Aida Victoria, the haunting music and possessed vocals intact, the menace the slow low and dangerous impact, and best part, I thank you for this note SquigPie, Aida is "going to beat her woman- " that is as you enlightened, "to BEAT her woman until she's satisfied." The difference a word makes, the whole song vibrates with so much more genuine the demons any one soul can suffer. I have no favorite, on this between Gil and Aida, yet for all the great versions, of the way Robert Johnson, he play it, and they're good- yet these interpretations are much more deeply realized. I feel the reverb and the suffering in their vocals, their orchestrations, would love it with Aida's and Gil's duet in a mix... awesome, wicked, bad...bad...bad... I know these people. It is nothing that can be fully expressed in any of the arts. Walk a mile, nothing.. one has to live with that menace, that evil outside that dares the wick to light the stick of dynamite. Overboil. Overdrive. It is too real, and both versions, masterful... again I thank you Pie. It is significant. Be well then, ~RaVen~

@capturethatflag4 This seems pretty bias, this is widely seen as a good song, although the artist isn't as well known as others, say lil' wayne, doesn't mean you should discredit other artists.
