What do you like/ dislike about girl boss culture?
@anotherace65262 жыл бұрын
I like how it can be very motivating on the surface, but it also kind of reminds me of pretty privilege in some ways. There are benefits, but you will never know if someone likes you and does nice things for you because of the person you are, or just because you’re pretty.
@blackcat63742 жыл бұрын
I think that one of the aspects that I dislike about it the most was that it made it seem as if you have lack warmth and empathy in order to be "successful" as a woman. You mentioned in the video that the word "girl" is used in girl-boss to kind of neutralize the idea that a boss is old, serious (or even completely cold, bitter, angry, lacking basic human empathy, etc), and unlikeable and I agree, however (at least in media) there still remained this idea of having these set of negative traits, usually related to the stereotypical "alpha" male, placed in a female character. The only difference being that the "girl-boss" is described with words like: sassy, strong, determined, savage, etc. The idea that in order to be considered "strong" you must act like an absolute selfish a-hole makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

What I really like about it is the promotion of going towards success, financial freedom, and breaking Stereotypes about what women can’t achieve. What I don’t like about it is how there are “boxes” women have to fit, like some people don’t have to have luxury items, it’s portrayed as rlly flashy when it’s about being happy and everyone has their own definition of that

I really love how Zoe speaks up about popular topics from another angle After all, yes, if the only image of successful woman is a girlboss, it means girls can't be bosses by default in this world The purpose of all these cultures isn't to truly give people empowerment, but to sell the label, the false feeling of being strong, while not being perceived as something normal. They just sell you another mask that tells you what to do. Woah, never had this much likes👀

But girls please remember: You don't need to break relationship with your parents to be financially stable. You don't have put up the common trend personality of being savage and cool and so. You just need to be confident and stand up for yourself and others. You don't have to be emotionally damaged to be strong. Their is put up trend or standard for everything for example in this trend you Have to be cool and shouldn't fall in love and blah blah. TO BE STRONG , Just be yourself and love yourself and gain values in your lives. Go Girls 🔥 And also you don't have to wear the clothes that are considered powerful to the society just wear what makes you comfortable. You don't have to wear revealing clothes just because everyone does , the goes for other styles.

I never understood why people made terms like "GIRL" boss or "GIRL" anything. As a girl myself (And someone who is a total fan of the Cruella movie C:) with tons of ambition, you should only label yourself as what you are, a business owner, a designer, a person with big dreams. Once you achieve such dreams although you should acknowledge how you experienced adversity, with the possibility of the difficulty you received of it being motivated by misogyny, refrain from putting your gender in front of anything. Feminism is there to make EQUALITY between all genders, originally to give women THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES as men. When you are given that opportunity and have earned your way up to where you are, why should you make it seem like it's a miracle that you are a "girl" boss? As you said, these things shouldn't be neutralized for men. "I'm a boss" "I'm powerful" "I'm successful" instead of "I'm a girl boss" (Like you couldn't be a boss if you weren't a man? And you achieved something for women that isn't normal/can't be normal?). Anyways love your videos!!!

Girl Boss to me just implies awareness of the fact that those roles have traditionally been reserved for men. To me, it's always sort of been an acknowledgment of women's accomplishments as well as sort of a fuck you to the patriarchy that told us we couldn't be the boss to begin with. Girl Boss culture is toxic but I don't think the phrase is. Like most things, it's meaning just got muddled with time.

Girlboss to me is something I only use sarcastically since the idea of giving women more space at the top won’t be beneficial for all women and therefore to me isn’t empowering or feministic at all. Most of the women who would make it to the top would be the most privileged women, ie cis het white women since they’re the most privileged and the less privileged women would be “below” them which isn’t equal and therefore to me can’t be seen as feministic or empowering. Yeah and the fact that if the woman's the one staying home and raising the kids,then she's doing her job but if it's vice versa and the man's the one doing it then,the man's praised for being a good man that he sympathized with his wife and took her place while the wife's looked down bcs she ignored her responsibilities (idk if this happens everywhere but it happens where I live). It has always been "men and women have different roles" but never,"it's both of our responsibility to do this".It has always been like this and everytime I try to bring this up to my mother,she's always trying to insult me for believing in these "values" while she was the one led to believe in these values set by the previous generations.

@@jhuizhang "both responsibility to do this" yesss that's a good way to see it, I don't know why people make the roles so strict, I don't think they apply to every single thing, both gender roles have to experiment same responsibilities. I love how everyone is trying to figure out the “best solution” to societal flaws within their own limitations of environment and social influences. I agree GirlBoss is the biggest lie. Especially as being a black women who has been fired by multiple women in the coportate office for wearing “braids” or my natural hair simply because it made them feel uncomfortable and positioned me to be labeled “unprofessional “ Being a woman and being black has literally given me 20/20 vision to how full of crap all of this really is. Because it only serves those who are not black and/or who are not women. But it you carry all of the there things labeled against you (Black, Woman, or Gay” you are considered nonhuman to society. God forbid that you carry all three No matter how much you try to fit into society, Society will remind you where you stand, no matter how “progressive” it markets itself to be. The biggest frustration is going through life seeing Society literally “Progress” only to be on the outside of that progression because you didn’t fit the criteria to be included in the “new progressive world” It’s the hypocrisy for me

I've noticed that most of the "feminists" put down men and expect special treatment for women because they were treated horribly in the past. Yes, I agree women do deserve the respect because they've fought for it in the past. But the thing they fought for is equality not superiority. People are completely forgetting that and going around saying 'i hate men' 'men disappoint me' yada yada. Most of them are light heart jokes but sometimes I see people cussing others down because they took it seriously even if they were nice about it and asking that they shouldn't do that. And Men do face problems just like the women so no one has the right to push a man just cause you're a women, and no you can't push down a women just cause you're a man. But sure talk trash all you want about a person if they are actually a trash bag, but if they didn't do anything and you're just bored, just stop. (Don't try to argue in the reply section, if you want to argue, post your own comment ^^ thank you)

What does your comment have to do with this video?
@lukeiamyourfather6662 жыл бұрын
@@Hhhhhh-sz9ud "Girl boss culture" being the topic of the video. Girl boss culture mostly being self titled feminists praising women. Feminists nowadays are mostly known for their aggressive approach on women's equality, and other mistaking it as seeking women's superiority. People either support it thus making the whole feminists look bad and changing their whole idea of what they wanted to be. Or just don't like the idea at all and hating on it. Both of them are wrong, and I spoke on how people who call them self feminists put down men to praise women. Hope this answers your question :)

I truely believe all of these terms are really there to just prove which is uncommon, the strong women are very very few even in today's world & to get away from that feeling, more and more Commercials are being posted. I remember when I was in school all the Toppers were usually Guys And I was the only Girl competing in my Class which was separated in 3 sections.. Every section Top 3 ranks were held by guys and it was excruciating because If I used to score less number in any of the Subjects they used to Make fun of me stating '' See boys are getting ahead of you '', even some of my teachers used to say that. I used to feel why this is soo uncommon & uncomfortable.

How is someone saying in an interview "go achieve your dreams" profitting from other women? I don't understand. For me it's motivating because people like Katy Perry achieved their dream life, and I'm not talking about money, for me it's mostly that she is hard-working, passionate about everything she does and is an amazing artist.

One of my friends gave me crap because she started her own marketing business (she had enough freelance clients to go solo from agency life and then partners with other women in the industry as well) and has been going to a bunch of networking events. She is extremely charismatic and actually has something to network, whereas I don't really have anything to network and I'm a shy, unconfident introvert. Basically she got annoyed that I didn't want to go to these events or use my PTO time to take off work to go to these creative morning seminars when she makes her own hours/works when she wants. And it's affected our relationship at this point, and I think a lot of it is this mentality
