Glock 23 Gen 4 with LWD .40-9mm conversion barrel shooting review

Shooting review with my EDC Glock 23 Gen 4 compact .40 pistol. I have had the Lone Wolf threaded conversion barrel for several years now. It has around 3k rounds through it with only a few malfunctions through 3 different Glock 23 pistols. The only malfunction I have had with it is what you see in the video: failure to lock the slide to the rear on the last shot.
After watching this video I think part of the reason the slide isn't locking to the rear is because of my high grip. My left hand is in contact with the slide lock which may have enough force to not let it engage the slide on the last shot. I am going to test this in my next video.

This is a great video. No BS, just a lot of rounds put through a setup that a lot of us .40 S&W guys have considered. I've heard a lot of good things about the Lone Wolf barrels, despite them being on the cheaper side. Keep up the good work brother.

This is a great video! Yesterday I just bought the stainless 9mm bbl for my Glock 27 that is chambered in .40 I carry it as a back up in the ankle but to play with at the range it is much cheaper to run 9mm to play with. May I make a suggestion to you? Do not burn your leg, call "Tap Rack Holsters" ask for Everett, tell him I sent you, they will make you one from Kydex for about $75. They are close to Fresno So California.They will make it to fit your gun using the extended bbl you have and it an OWB I run this daily mostly wearing shorts and a T shirt and never seen , I run a combet commander .45 and it is very comfortable Thank you again for this video, I am so excited to get mine next week and off to the range! Is there a new specific barrel to use to convert the Gen4s? From what i understand, the barrel lug where the spring sits, is different on the Gen4 (from Gen1-3 (single spring). I have LWD 40-9 conversion barrel for G23 Gen3 & wanted to know if it can be used in the G23 Gen4? Oh, had same experience with Gen3 when shooting 9mm in G23 with factory spring weight. The brass ejects straight up & just a few inches (w cheap steel case ball ammo), because it barely has enough power to run the gun, though it always had enough. The 9mm ejector is not needed, it will just change direction of brass/steel. Never had a failure of slide lock on last round. Wonder if it's possible that your slide is not moving back far enough to lock? High speed camera will confirm. Thank you!

Over all would you rely on training with the 9mm barrel and carrying in .40 trying to find a cheaper way to train with my g23 but the price difference between .40 to 9mm is way different

I have not compared them. I have heard good things about KKM and several other companies. When I bought this barrel several years ago I was looking for the least expensive option. The barrel itself and of course 9mm ammo vs .40. The main negatives I have heard people complain about is the "ugly" LWD logo on their barrels. As you can see this barrel doesn't have a visible logo with the barrel installed. It is barely noticeable on the underside of the barrel as you can see in the picture at the end of the video. I think it looks cool and I wish I could see it. You can see the finish is very worn. Most of the wear happened after the first couple hundred rounds. I am looking forward to getting my hands on a LWD Alpha Wolf barrel which has a much tougher finish.

brentfoto Ameriglo Pro I-dots. They have a tritium vial in the rear and 1 in the front. There is also an orange outline that acts like a fiber optic.

Christian Figueroa I am in Michigan. I have had more of the slide lock back failures with the 9mm conversion barrel. Although I have put a lot more rounds of 9mm through my G23. It has happened a few times with everything stock and shooting .40. I think it is mostly my high grip on the gun. Out of several thousand rounds, I have only had a few malfunction-stovepipes.

MITac Training was the slide lock back failures because of your recoil spring? I have G19 recoil spring paired with my 40-9barrel..

pNoid2k1 I am sure that is part of it. I plan on buying a G19 RSA someday. I am waiting for the LWD polished SS RSA to be in stock. I am sure you noticed how the brass was ejecting towards me and also erratically.

MITac Training Im a bit late to the party but I did notice the ejection pattern on the 9mm conversion. I believe, if my forum hunting is correct, that this has to do with the 40sw ejector. The 40 ejector is straight while the 9mm ejector is a bit curved. I don't know if this will remedy the slide hold open issues you where having but it will help with ejection pattern. ALot of people on forums say that doin a conversion from 40 to 9 needs a new ejector and many say it doesn't. Youve proved that you dont need a new ejector to run it clean but maybe it will help? Also I also believe 40sw and 9mm have the same weight recoil spring weight but I could be wrong. Just my 2 cents. Great shooting man.

The 155 grain XTP .40 has about 25% more muzzle energy than the 124 gr +p XTP I carry in 9mm. The trade off is a few less rounds in the magazine and about double perceived recoil. Although there still isn't much with .40.

MITac Training tell you the truth I can't even tell the difference in recoil of the 9 & 40.. But for sure the .40 is far more superior whether +p are not. Look up 135g carbon ammo bad ass shit.
