Something about the looks of the Walther that’s just awesome. Glad to see that Glock finally made a 22 and one that feeds reliably unlike the conversion kits. Throw an optic on the top and you have a great target pistol.

There will be no option for an optic, that would make the slide too heavy and it may not cycle reliably.

I would pick the Smith & Wesson M&P Compact 22. And then go to the Smith & Wesson Shield 380EZ. Then the next step would be the Smith & Wesson 9 mm Shield EZ 3-step way for a youngster to step up from a 22 to a 380 to a 9 mm. And it's EZ like Sunday morning

My PPQ 22 SD/TAC came with two mags. One was a 10rd and one was a 12rd. They miss ordered and ordered the 10rd for me. But it was ok because it had a 12rd in the case when I got it; the 10rd was in the gun. The bonus of the SD/Tac is the threaded barrel for later.... "activities."

I had the PPQ 22 to go along with my 9mm version. I traded it after less then a year. I read that the problem I was having with the PPQ 22 was known and not fixed at the factory level. The roll pin in the slide kept backing out. I liked the gun but no excuse putting out a product that is not correct. I still have my 9 mm, no problem ever. Looking forward to the glock to go along with my G19's. Just my experiences, your mileage may vary.

I love that little Walther, and the Glock won’t replace it for camping, but it’ll be great to have the G44 on the range.

I fired my Glock 44 yesterday and had a recurring issue. I shot over 700 rounds with a few different types of ammo. The issue had nothing to do with the firearm or ammo. While loading the magazine the rounds would nose down increasingly as I neared full capacity, 10 rounds. This would then stop the slide from going forward when attempting to chamber the first round. As long as I fidgeted with the rounds before loading it would work fine. Suggestions?

@Super Clark "Glock is a proven handgun" "Theres a reason 80%+ police departments use them" "but why is everyone copying them" "You pay for the quality" "Its glock perfection" "Glock magazines" Look I respect what the glock line up has done but to me it seems like they're resting on their laurels, nothing innovative, going back to earlier gen designs, same gun essentially since the 80's but yet still charging around 500$ while its competitors are 100$ to even 200$ dollars cheaper and offer more features. Look Glock has been around for so long and is a proven platform but it's nothing special and other gun manufacturers are pumping out like quality products for cheaper and in time will be just as proven and will probably run glock out of business and they'll be the Colt 2.0

I have the S&W M&P 22 made by Walther and it is very similiar to the Walther PPQ 22. It is ambi including the slide lock and external safety. It is a great training pistol. For the Glock 19 I just have the Advantage Arms conversion kit. It is pretty reliable except with the hyper velocity brands and the Winchester White Box. The S&W eats everything. They're great training pistols. You can introduce a new shooter to them and shoot bulk ammo on the cheap. Once a new shooter has become acclimated to either of those pistols they can move up to shooting any variety of 9mm I have or anyone else at the range has. I'm sure the Glock 44 AND PPQ 22 are great guns as well.

Hi Sootch00, don’t you have access to a CZ P07 chambered in .22LR? It will be a good comparison between the other good hammer fired, DA/SA handguns of this segment, like Walther P22, Ruger SR22, Sig Sauer Mosquito and some other that you think make the final cut to be in the top 4 or 5 best hammer fired plinker, I personaly have the CZ P07 Kadet (.22LR) in urban grey, my father have the Sig Sauer Mosquito and a very good friend of mine have the Walther P22, this is why I propose this comparison 😄. PS: in my country the Ruger SR22 is not yet available

Bill P not sure about controls and blackstraps but yes for the sights. Though, according to a couple of different reviewing sources be careful with the polymer slide because if the rear sights go in crooked or are too tight, they may cut into the polymer. Not sure if anyone has actually had a problem with this or if it was a criticism of a possible issue of the polymer slide.

I have an idea I would like some feedback on. Would it be possible to port the barrel on the bottom to increase muscle Flip and possibly reduce recoil spring tension to increase felt recoil. These guns are for plinking and training and I think it would be interesting from a training perspective to increase perceived recoil and muzzle flip from .22LR. Is this silly and impractical or totally doable?

Love how easily my TX22'S SLIDE disassembles! You simply remove the end cap, and the entire striker assembly comes right out, then falls apart (housing is in 2 halves). You can further, remove the steel breach block, after tapping out the tension retaining pin, and, using a dowel rod, drive it forward and lift out, through a cut out. Engineers really thought this through!

I think training with what you are carrying is important..a 22 in a g19 size is ok but I'd rather train with what caliber I'm carrying. Nice idea but if I was just wanting a nice little 22 to plink with I'd have to go with the new tx22 I like the ergonomics better than either of these or the ruger sr22. I've shot all n best bang for buck I'd go TX22.... now if taurus brought a 9mm 40 and 45 in the TX variety I think they would sell tons of them I'd get a tx9mm allday . Good job Sootch always informative.

I’m such a Fan of the Walther PPQ-M2 in 9mm, I Have TWO of them !! AND one in 45ACP, couldn’t resist when Walther ran a $100 Rebate !!! Don’t have it in 22LR, because I have 4 other pistols from 2 Different Manufacturers: Ruger & S&W (22/45 Mk III & SR22 ; M&P22compact & Victory) !!!! I’m Not a Glock Guy, simply because it’s grip angle hurts to shoot !! I have Nerve issues !!! TOOK MY CCW TRAINING SHOOTING A G19, AND I SHOT IT WELL !!!

Walther has been building.22lr pistols for years over most. In time if glock keeps making a .22lr it will get better. But if they don’t sell good they may walk away from the.22lr. Because they don’t want to damage Glocks name.

Walther internals look identical to my full size M&P 22...oh wait...it's made by Walther. Runs great, shoots great, more accurate than the shooter and with a can is a great backyard trainer w/o earpro.

the 44 had too many misfires for my taste. I think the tougher slide has something to do with it. Its a great 22lr but its out performed by my SR22, PPQ, P22 and TX22 which all have few misfires/stove pipes.

I'm sorry Sootch but shooting a .22 pistol with the same dimensions and manual of arms as a 9mm pistol is not good for training. 9mm and .22 a far too different of caliber for any training with a .22 to be of any use. I mean I get what you're saying but, just go buy a 9mm and train with it. These guns are awesome and would be perfect for a kid or someone who isn't familiar with firearms, but only as a .22 pistol. It's like saying driving Mini Cooper is great training for driving an 18 wheeler.

If the 19 and 44 have the same size mags and the 19 holds 15rds of 9, then why can they only squeeze 10rds of 22 in the 44? Gock needs to follow Taurus because they are definitely leading the way!

22's dont stack well. glock wanted perfect reliability and found 10 rounds to be the count they were comfortable with. Im sure you will see 15+ aftermarket mags.

I have the PPQ .22 and it is fantastic and feeds any ammo I have put through it so far. I have always wished it had a plate option. If Glock adds a plate option, I'm in... A long slide version would also be real sweet.

I own a ppq sc 9mm and a glock 23 Gen 4 and enjoy shooting both not to much difference on the recoil. Either one is good for me.
