@austenleffler9511 күн бұрын
A comped 2011 with a racey trigger has a higher performance ceiling than a factory Glock, if that makes sense. As an example, if you’re doing your part, you should be able to do the same stuff with the 2011 that you can do with the Glock, but at farther distances. It’s almost like doing the same drills with a rifle as you do with a pistol, but at greater distance under a tighter time constraint. You can absolutely hold the A-zone shooting doubles at like 30y with the 2011. But with a Glock, you’ll be limited by the capability of the gun sooner. The catch is that when you’re pushing the performance limits of your 2011, the gun will be very sensitive to your input. If you push on the gun just a little bit at 10y with a Glock, you might shoot a C. Do the same with the 2011 at 30, and you might miss the target altogether. It’s deceptively hard to put so little input into the gun that you don’t induce problems, but that’s exactly what you have to do with an open gun when you’re extracting the best performance out of the gun. That’s what makes it tougher, in some sense. Good news though. Even if you shoot like poop, you’re still flexing on the poors either way.
@believein110 күн бұрын
Hey Ben, I’ve been into firearms for a few months now. This is how I compare it. It’s like a water hose. You plug the hole BEFORE you turn it on to contain the water, not AFTER. Good luck trying to keep the water in then. So you establish the grip and compression as a sequential step BEFORE the trigger pull. If you play video games, it’s like first person shooters when you hold down the right mouse button to aim, then shoot. If you establish your grip and compression, you block any way for the “water” to escape into the frame of the gun, and it shoots out the barrel at a higher speed and velocity. Spitting flames.

I bought your books. Pretty interesting stuff tbh. I have a question. Do you think shooting comped pistols will make you a worse shooter? Do they instill poor fundamentals overtime? Or does it not matter? Cuz I like shooting comped pistols--its fun. But I always try to shoot my non-comped pistols more so I don't get sloppy. Am I wasting my time?

@@armorers_wrench unless you’re shooting major pf, or self defense ammo… comps are pointless. My opinion
@Osprey199412 күн бұрын
Pretty sure he has a video on that very question. Just go and look. Ben shoots enough where he doesn't seem very worried about comps, unlike some of the guys who are super paranoid that a comp will make them lazy. At the same time, these same people will shoot a Shadow 2 that is right under weight, and they carry the biggest gun they can because they struggle to shoot small guns. I carry a small pistol, so I shoot that gun the most. I can hit 6×10 steel at 50yds with it, and a B zone target at 100yds. My bill drills aren't the best, but my last competition with it had a 2.54 from appendix to last shot, which I am happy with. The point of mentioning this, is that when I bump up or do any sort of confirmation drills with my competition pistol, I just find it to be drastically easier. Last year the ammo split was 3500 carry/1300 competition pistol, a lot of that was just verifying it worked and then verifying it worked again after I had the internals replaced. TLDR: Based on personal experience, as long as you don't spend all your time on the gun that is easiest to shoot and that you don't carry, you'll be fine.

Ben’s motto is just shoot. My motto is if you don’t enjoy what you are doing you won’t do it. Just have fun. It’s good to go back and forth to keep the fundamentals but imo and I feel like Ben’s as well don’t get to in your head about and don’t get to in the weeds of this and that and just shoot. Focus on fundamentals and consistency and push yourself. Plus there are many comps that are so good that it will mess up your shooting non comped. I made a flush fit Glock with my radian and I shoot it the most because I love it so flat. But I also shoot my other Glocks as well and don’t seem to have any issues. The first round or two might catch me off guard but you quickly adjust your grip or whatever and it’s back to normal. If you wanna be a competition shooter it’s probably best to shoot what you wanna compete with the most but don’t stress out and make it fun your brain knows the difference let it do its thing
