glp-1, not gpl-1? Glucagon-like peptide-1 👍 (And from what I've been reading is more 'simulated by certain foods' than 'comes from them'. And I'm sure Dr G would like someone to mention one of them... Olive oil. 🤣

Speaking of the Chinese getting things right (for thousands of years), Berberine is a GLP-1 agonist that achieves this agonism via the gut microbiome. Sound familiar?
@TracingRobots Жыл бұрын
BERBERINE is one of the must have supplements next to Curcumin. BBR is great for bile salts which in turn is great for glucose balance. Amazing

he recommended it in one of his videos as it's a prebiotic. I started taking it but make sure you mix it with enough liquid. A small amount soaks up so much water you wouldn't believe it. Great for making puddings

Very interesting interview. What I don't understand is if GLP-1 induces insulin production, which causes weight gain, what then causes the weight loss?
@stellasternchen Жыл бұрын
Common misconception. Insulin does not promote weight gain, insulin only transports energy rich molecules like fat and glucose into the cells and keeping blood sugar in check. What happens there in the cell depends on if energy is needed or not. Molecules get either burned or stored. If you eat more then you need it gets stored. If you eat only what you need or less, it gets burned. Insulin is not a storage hormone, like many claim. It is necessary in order to not get high blood sugar or diabetes. People that can‘t produce insulin (diabetic type 1) need to inject insulin in order to live. Too much insulin production is a response to glucose intolerance and is the only thing keeping you from becoming diabetic. Only if the pancreas fails to produce enough to overcome glucose intolerance, you’ll get diabetic. The misconception about insulin increasing weight stems from the fact when diabetics type2 have to inject insulin to gain weight. That‘s because excess energy from food is accumulating in the blood stream and is finally able to enter the cells, that are full to the brim and can‘t burn it. Thus it gets stored. The way to fix this problem is weight loss by less energy intake, which takes people off their insulin.

@@stellasternchen Okay, so insulin does not cause weight gain, consuming more energy than a body uses does. So how does weight loss occur when insulin is present which prevents fat cells from releasing free-fatty acids to be used as energy?
@stratusrunner Жыл бұрын
I am making an assumption (and could be wrong) that GLP-1 causes the release of FFAs into the bloodstream in spite of the presence of insulin.
@stellasternchen Жыл бұрын
@@stratusrunner Good question. The way I understood is that glucose gets burned first. So insulin transports glucose in, blocks fat burning, glucose gets burned, and if it’s used up, fat gets burned, since insulin gets down again. Not 100% sure though. Type 2 Diabetics though have elevated fasting insulin levels. On the other hand there are studies showing diabetes remission on low fat diets, which should be unlikely. Studies showed that beriatric surgery causes diabetic remission although there should be still high insulin levels preventing fat loss. Diabetes remission is kind of a recent thing. As far as I know, it was thought to be incurable in the past. There are two proposed models of obesity. One is the carbohydrate-insulin model, where increased carbohydrate intake is supposed to increase insulin, stops fat burning and thus makes you fat. So you need to decrease carbs to loose weight effectively. But balanced diets and high carb diets have just been proven as effective as low carb diets in loosing weight. But low carb short term diets are more effective to improve diabetes remission. Then there is the classical model that propose it is calories in calories out. Evidence points towards that. If you find the answer let me know.

Here's what I found in an article written by a patient that has taken Ozempic now for about a year: He said the GLP-1 antagonist stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin, but only when there is glucose present in the blood. Reducing the appetite and eating less allows the body to switch to fat burning. @@stellasternchen
