Home gym, mine cost me 175 bucks total. All it is is a bar, some weights, adjustable bench, adjustable bench rack, that's it. I can do all main exercises with just this, put the seat upright for shoulder press, incline, decline, flat benchpress, squat?? just move the bench bro, deadlifts, I put some folded up cardboard layering on the floor and put the weight down on that, so I don't break the tiles. That's it.

Update6 months and I'm still loving this bench. kzbin.infoUgkxo_64lVTGMk7y4aXTPxPOcQ3YTLyQ6kYV I use it almost daily. I've gotten used to the small wobble and it's no problem at all. Love the storage, it folds right next to my weight set in the garage and hardly takes any space. I wish the covering material was a little bit tougher. I have a feeling that in a couple years it'll tear, but the bench is very well priced that I would just buy a new one.3 month usage review. Awesome bench for someone looking for compactness and storage. I did have to drill a couple holes to adjust my preferred seating position and leg bar position but that's only due to my personal preference. It's very sturdy for normal workouts, but for anyone going above 100# dumbbell press it wobbles ever so slightly. I would probably go with a fixed bench if that's the case. That being said i can accomplish 99% of my normal gym workout with this setup. Very happy with the purchase.

Great points and video. Commercial gyms also charge annual maintenance fees and don’t forget about the gas! Another consideration is clothes. Some people feel the need to wear “respectable” clothing at the gym. These are all points I justify to myself to purchase more stuff for my home gym.

Great breakdown and analysis! Bottom line, it comes down to the person and honest needs of equipment. I will NEVER recoup the cost of my home gym compared to what my wife and I were paying for our commercial memberships. With that said, I would make the same decision 100 times again to go with the home gym. One of the best investments I've made. I also didn't go for budget items because I was particular about equipment, BUT, I could still train well with some of the cheaper options had I decided to go that route. For most people, the home gym makes more sense cost-wise using more budget-friendly equipment options. The biggest factor for us in favor of the home gym is the time savings. You cannot replace the convenience of having the equipment in your own home and being able to control the environment whenever you want to use it. We don't have a problem with motivation to use it so it just makes more sense for us. It would be great to hear your wife's thoughts in the next video.

All I'm saying is I can't lift naked at the public gym. I also can't go to the public gym anymore. In all seriousness, I live on a military base, the gym is free and they have everything you could ever need. I just have home gym fever because I'm tired of waiting on equipment to free up. I'll go in for leg day, and my squat is my first lift so I can go all out on squats so I'm not too tired later in the workout, and when all the racks are being used, I have no choice but to put squatting off and then I'm too tired to get all my reps or I have to drop weight.

The absolute best part of of a home gym is how easily I can get a workout in regardless of whatever is going on in my life , or more importantly, my girl’s schedule. Too late, home gym acquired. Slippery slope has started, $15 grand in credit card debt. For real though, I have a cheaper power rack and enough accessories to have no excuses. I get itches for a rack upgrade, but my 14 gauge rack is bolted to the floor and ceiling. The ceiling bracing kind of makes an 11 gauge rack obsolete if you're not squatting 700 pounds. My ceiling isn't high enough for a forever rack purchase either.

Very good video with great detail. I have a complete home gym including commercial Stairmaster. But I always keep a a couple of gym memberships on hand because I get bored training home and a commercial gym is much more motivating for me. One thing mentioned in this video that very few people mention is the importance of air quality. 8 out of 10 people with home gyms do not have an air purifier or air exchanger. The commercial gyms have high ceilings and air circulates much more free. When I built my home gym at home the first thing I did was install an air exchanger and air purifier before installing anything else . And, this is also a high cost of a home gym. As anyone with a home will say, a home gym is a never complete lol

I think home gym works best if you're doing Squat, Bench, Deadlift, HIIT, or CrossFit type workouts. If you're looking to do more traditional bodybuilding work and using machines like Hack Squat, Leg Press, Lying Leg Curls etc, I think the cost and space eventually becomes prohibitive for most to outfit in a "garage".

As far as cost is concerned personally dont think its all that expensive IF you are realistic with what you do vs how strong you actually are/plan on being. Example: titan fitness economy barbell vs Rogue ohio power bar $110 vs $300+,700lb rating vs 190,000psi . Lets say you squat/deadlift are under 405 or hell even 315 like literally 95% of the population you don't need a super nice barbell. While obviously superior in everyway the average person looking to get in shape will/can get by with alot less. The only time you need to spend extra is if you are above a certain lvl of strength(very rare% wise anyone lifts more than 500lb on any of the big 3)and need something with a higher weight ratings/ durability. Or 2 you are immersed in the gym culture and appreciate awesome well built equipment( which lets be honest most of us). Thats why i recommend people start off with modestly priced equipment first until either you grow in strength(like make a personal goal like if u DL 405 u can now buy a powerbar) or you get into the culture and decide to step up in quality.

I still train at my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school for obvious reasons but I started building a home gym before COVID19 because (according to other members at LA Fitness) I was taking too long on the squat racks. Management spoke to me several times. So I slowly began building my home gym. It was only then when I realized how crappy a lot of the equipment at commercial gyms is! Also, good luck finding a commercial gym with a multi grip bar, axle bar and a reverse hyper. All of those plate loaded hammer strength machines are overrated too! They're just there for some punk personal trainer to help a person count to ten. Home gym is where it's at!

Home gym for sure. We don't have a good lifting gym in my area anymore so it's either Planet Worthless, or Anytime (you want to hit on a cougar) Fitness. My schedule prior to the lockdown was get up at 3:30 am, go to the gym by 4:00, pray heavily that the limited equipment (one power rack, no benches, one smith machine, and a bunch of cable machines) isn't being hogged, get my workout in, shower and hit the road by 6:30 for an hour and a half trip to work. Then it's work all day, drive home, and get to bed around 9:00 to start all over again. For the last year and a half, it's get up at 6:30, or earlier depending on schedule, work all day, shut down at 5:00, hit the basement gym, and off the equipment by ~7:00, shower, eat dinner, and have time to do something else. There are three machines which I would like to buy but won't: seated leg curl, seated leg extension, and a leg press. I would also like to replace my old lat pulldown, but what I have works.

I wonder if another video on the pros and cons of picking a garage, unfinished or finished basement/spare bedroom vs cheap or well equipped commercial gym and equipment choices such as rack height etc. If your style of training is X these sre the pros and cons of each location. Looking forward to today's video! Thanks!

I m from India, ur videos are great n good work. 1 point also needs to add, travel time is also a point that needs to mention, 1X from home to Gym and 1X from Gym to Home = total 2X, which is very useful when we have a Home Gym.
@GlucksGym3 жыл бұрын
True for some travel time is a thing but for me I was always able to find close gyms. Thanks! Hope you're enjoying them

$10 Planet fitness gym membership is very hard to beat. Financially speaking, most people are probably better off with a planet fitness gym membership than owning a home gym. The pros are its open 24/7, huge amount of gym equipment to choose from, takes up no space, not responsible for any repairs (if the machines break), gym atmosphere, have free showers etc. There are only 2 cons I see with commercial gyms is that you must pay a "monthly fee" and you have to "Travel" back and forth from the gym. But in reality most people go to the gym before they start work (which is usually located on there way to their jobs). Hope this helps.

is it ok for buying 40kg weights and barbell and doumbell for staying fit for whole life
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
You can do a lot with those things and add on as needed though you'll probably need more plates
@MetalsForBrunch3 жыл бұрын
home gyms provides more privacy, comfort, ownership and ultimately saves time. if you have to babysit your kids and can't leave the house to workout this also saves the bs drive to the gym. commercial gyms have better machines that's pretty much it

All you truly need is powerblocks up to 90lbs, adjustable bench, squat rack, good bar and second hand iron plates. just stop buying crap after that. you always think you need more stuff but you'll rarely use it after the thrill wears off. However home gyms are the F***ing Greatest for people with families though.
@williamwarren38332 жыл бұрын
To me, a home gym is more of an investment. Price of goods go up and most weights/equipment can be restored. Plus I can workout whenever I want. I've had both gym memberships and currently have a home gym. I'd say the home gym is better because of availability and resale value when I outgrow them or want to upgrade.

Am I the only one who uses plate loaded dumbbells? They can hold 60lbs worth of plates which is only a bit less than the adjustables and cost a fraction of the price.

This is one of the best, most honest videos I've seen weighing the pros and cons of each. Honestly it will come down to a lot of factors, including whether you like socializing, want to roll out of bed and into the gym at 7, or put up with germs juvenile behavior to boot in a gym. Of course, you're not likely to meet Ms Right in your garage without some help.

I have a small home gym and i can't wait to sign up for commercial gym again. After 3 years i kinda hit the dead end, and there's so much more space and variety at the big gym. Plus you pay for extra room when you have a home gym, so i guess each to their own.

A lot of people don’t consider the embarrassment you will face when you shit your pants in a commercial gym and have to waddle out in a slow walk of shame. At home you can shit your pants and it’s no big deal.
@nrkgalt2 жыл бұрын
If a person is new to weightlifting, a commercial gym may be a better option for a time. More experienced lifters do on occasion give suggestions to newbies. Also, if a person suffers a major injury, there is somebody available to call emergency medical services.
@alelectric27673 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day you own the equipment. If you pay for a gym membership that money just went out the window. I also joined a basement or cave type pay as you go gym. So no monthly membership.

@mikeb93963 жыл бұрын
The social aspect gets in the way of training. Some folks go to train, some folks go to yack, and the yackers wind up sitting on equipment interfering with a persons workout while trying to impress a young lady.

Great video man. However, in my opinion, the bowflex sucks. It might be better to just buy dumbbell handles for half the price and you can most likely load up to 150 lbs (5 25s per side). Anyway keep up the amazing content.
@GlucksGym3 жыл бұрын
I prefer the power block but people seem to like these. You can obviously see my choice in my videos but that price is insane. I tend to hate loadable dumbbells but I might end up buying the Rogue's or another system for really heavy stuff these DBs are bankrupting me.
