@@hawgietonight last time I was bothered by the customs (in Germany) was about a parcel from UK when a friend used his work address, not personal. Everything from China got through customs flawlessly for about a decade already. Week or two in transit also beats months of preorder. Not to mention the hassle of talking to a LBS owner or a trainee at the desk. But I'm also blessed to have three huge online retailers (all with "bike" in their names) that always offer some discounts. So I can gather up quite a shopping basket and get parts right in time for a big project. Or keep a collection of spares just in case. Interesting to see the experience of US/Canada bikers with all their Amazon dominance and import taxes.

All my AliExpress stuff is in, but my chainring from LBS is not as of today. Last week when I called it was clear nobody had even put the order in. Agree with @hindesite that YMMV I owned a retail chain that needed to order parts and service stuff, so I get it, but I also don't think things should reach Texas from Guangzhou before they get here from Arizona. 50 year old life long cyclist - ridden all I can, Campag, Shimano, SRAM, steel, alloy, carbon, titanium etc I've used Advent and have some Sensah and LTWOO - the build quality is good for the price - we think there is magic inside the leavers but quite a simple ratchet - anything complicated is to get around patents which must be due to expire in the not too distant future. It'll rust a bit quicker but 105 and Ultegra do that as well. I've never had a good experience with warranty on any cycling product - most failures I've had are after a few months of use so they wash their hands of it pretty much, don't see any issue with China direct. Cycling has out priced itself in my view, I'm glad these brands exist now as it make cycling affordable again.

Hi Owen, what I've found with Chinese bike products is, if you're looking at buying from a decent Chinese brand, when you add it all up at the end theres not much difference to the more well known brands. As an example. Electronic "groupsets". Generally from a Chinese brand it wont be a complete group set, it'll just be a derailleur, chain, shifter and cassette. When you add all the other bits you come in at the same price point as Shimano or SRAM. Thats one thing. If you buy from a not known chinese brand its just crap. As you guys have pointed out in past videos. Production, quality and profit has a price. The only way you can get cheaper is by buying something that doesn't hit the mark. I think the Chinese brands that are serious in trying to create their own space in the market are doing well, thats great for us as consumers but sometimes I do feel like we westeners and our money are being used as guinea pigs.

I have ZERO "brand loyalty", so if a part works I will consider it. However, I value my local bike shop MORE THAN THE DISCOUNT I get from somewhere else. I want my LBS to stay in business. I need my LBS to stay in business. If my LBS thrives, so does my local cycling community. TEMU will not maintain a trail. Ali Express will not attend civic forums to advocate for bike lanes and signage. Am I limited to a certain brand? Possibly, but that's okay - that brand will work just fine, whether that be BMC or Canyon or Fuji or Trek or Giant, et al. I am not a pro, nor do I compete for podium position. I am a casual rider, and I support LBSs.
@feedbackzaloopКүн бұрын
What if your LBS just stock up on things from Temu and Amazon? They know your needs and wants of the local society. You know, Canyon won't maintain your trails either, unless you live nearby Koblenz. Oh wait, Canyon is direct to consumer and doesn't care for LBS either! Even more of a counterargument: there is a Trek dealer in my town for some time and since then trials and bike lanes got flooded with overbiked underskilled riders who heavily abuse cycle-to-work scheme.

Maybe Ali is yet too young to present something as well established as Shimano, but LTwoo is definitely a big thing mostly if not exclusively thanks to Ali. Bitex hubs started selling through Ali too but soon gained enough trust and switched to traditional distribution path. Same with Pillar spokes, thing became as relevant as Sapim and almost impossible to buy directly now. On the side note, Trickstuff emerged from a Kickstarter campaign, also outside regular bikeshop distribution model.
