In this video I bring you along the process of replacing the upper control arms and outer tie rod ends with the brand "kryptonite" (#notasponsor) on a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The customer supplied the parts and I just bolted them on so don't ask me what I think of them or how I feel about them or anything about Kryptonite parts in general cuz I don't know.... -Enjoy!

I want to thank you,,,, I was diagnosed with an incurable disease that really knocked me for a loop. I responded by feeling sorry for myself and retreating to my lazy boy for a few months, I began watching your vids and it motivated me to get back out to my garage and resume the restoration of the Charger I’ve owned since high school. I hope you know that not only are your vids educational but they are motivational as well. It may sound corny but you may have prolonged my life. Thank you very much. A friend from Oklahoma.

For the record the squeak and clunks are cleared up and it rides amazingly smooth, and yes typically the control arms are $475 but I was able to grab them as “returns” for $350... Not exactly cheap but I’m not much of a bar goer and no kids so gotta have something to blow money on! Plus if they make it another 120k without another front end revamp I’ll be happy, and with the bolt in ball joints I shouldn’t have to pay for a future alignment. Also I get the vibe I should swing by dunkin and grab some coffee to drop off or something next time I am in the area.

A shop I worked at, a few years back, did alignments for another shop down the road. They brought one to us one day and I was the lucky one to do the alignment. They had replaced the outer tie rods (I believe some other things as well, doesn't matter) not only did they NOT free up the jam nuts but they manage to round BOTH of them off! Needless to say I was not a happy fella! Torches, vise grips, what have you to try to adjust the jeezless things, not to mention the shop manager barking at me asking what's taking so damn long. GRRRR~!

I took a 92 Bonneville to Tires plus 4 an alignment. It's not exactly a new car. It was pulling to one side. They finish it and I take it for a spin. Still pulling to one side although slightly better. So take it back they check it and adjust it again. Then I test drive it And it's still pulling like it was. So I take it back 3rd time and they say they can't do anything with it take it to another store on the other side of town. I've never been back

I had to ask my wife what a caper was. :D That's some fancy eats! Smoked salmon is fantastic, though. Looks like someone finally invented front end components that have the capability to make it more than 3 seasons of commuting on MA roadways. I might have to look into that. The truck has already cost me $45-Large over the past 14 years - what's another grand? I've got another GMT-900 on the lift myself right now. Motor mounts! And, it's a 4x4, of course! Took me 4 hours to R&R the left one yesterday. I pulled the cross from the front pinion and moved the driveshaft to one side. The OE one didn't have a heat shield, so it came out easy. The new one I had to disassemble to get it in place, thanks to the giant heat shield (OE mounts). Frustration city! Can only get 2 super-fine clicks out of the Snap-On ratchet on any one of the 4 mount-to-engine bolts. More engineer cursing in the upcoming vid, lol. What else is new? :D

I've used long straight boards held against the tires to set the toe by measuring side to side to spots on the boards the diameter of the wheel apart. I set the boards on 2 jack stands on each side snug to the tire. The alignment shop did not need to change the toe the last time I did this.

6:00 I've found if anything, penetrating fluid just helps lubricate the exposed threads. Helps.. most of the time.

I've seen it work, but you have to lube it a couple three times a day for like 3 days for it to really work. But you are right it helps move the rust out of the threads so they don't gall.

PB Blaster works wonders on rusty bolts. If you put a little heat on them that works too.

Yup they are clunkers for sure . Honestly though I just traded in my 2010 GMC Sierra 4x4 , it had 208,000 miles and was still running strong ...... Biggest problem with GM is trying to stay ahead of the rust .

The only noise my 06 Silverado ever makes sounds like a flock of birds chirping. That's how I know the top front shock nuts are loose or to replace the shocks. No need to have scheduled maintenance, the birds serve as a reminder. Otherwise, it's superbly quiet. I do clean the entire underside yearly and hose it down with a light mineral oil based product. I don't live in a rust prone area, for clarification.

The way I heard it was use the brackets and to also zip tie the wires elsewhere if they need it etc. no way I’d just be zip tying those important lines.

I was watching this while catching up on email and such this morning. While you were reinstalling those cam bolts in the UCA, I absentmindedly reached down for a napkin and started wiping my hands. Your videos pull in the viewer so well that I needed to wipe the grease from my fingers. Now I feel the urge to run over to Napa (not a sponsor)
