I feel like I didn't explain myself well enough in the intro. We 100% could have gotten the other carbs to idle but both had cracked fuel bowls and we discovered the 2nd carb had a blocked idle passage after tearing it apart.

Rope seal!
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism3 ай бұрын
@@darryl3767 Cool! I saw the video where he had a few options and that was one of them. I never seen one before but it seemed like a rope being compressed would eat up whatever uneven problem there might be, better than anything else. I just wonder how they hold over time? I wonder if they seep, being that they're rope? I should go watch it, maybe he explains how they work and if they last.

Try the fel pro high pressure rear main seal and for reference watch "nicks garage " he has so many videos on big block rear main seal installation. I have about the exact same build as your 440 ( different cam) . Yours sounds like it's going to be fun on the streets!

Sorry about that guys. It happens. Everyone has visions of a perfect build with a flawless startup, like so many videos on the internet. The reality is, they don't all go that way, for whatever reason. It's just part of the deal. Everyone has been through it. You'll get it right, though. That's what the engine run stand is for. I can't tell you how many times my friends and I have put an engine in a car, and had to pull it because of some oil leak, coolant leak, or some bullshit. I wish I had an engine run stand back then. Looking forward to the next one! Holy crap does that engine sound good, though! WOW! Me likey!

That aluminum radiator on the engine room wall would look real nice on your engine test stand. That garden hose rig won't cool the motor properly. You'll get hot spots from air pockets in the block and heads using that system. The water pump needs to be turning also.

My Gen2 Hemi has a chronic rear main seal leak, I've had it apart 5 times, still leaks so I'm currently having the engine rebuilt, I think blow-by is the culprit. I never had this problem with Wedge engines. A vacuum pump or evac hoses from the valve covers to the header collectors helps alot. I hope and pray you have good luck with the FST carburetor, mine ran like garbage, ended up spending $950 on a different brand. My FST would idle good but it wouldn't rev no matter what I tried, and I know my way around carbs.

Sometimes you have to put sealer on the flywheel bolts,some are drilled to go into the crankcase and will leak oil if not sealed on the bolts.
@jmendo25463 ай бұрын
You should be able to spin new gasket on. Did u use grease or vaseline on seal contact surface. So it doesn't start dry and burn up the rubber. Does this aftermarket seal go on, only one way direction. Oil seemed to come out after engine was up to temperature

99% A vacuum crankcase ventilation system will stop the leak. New rings have blowby. You could modify the oil return passage through the rear Maine cap. I don't think it is the seal itself nice try just a little more trickery it will be fine.

Did you linebore the mains? When you do, the main cap groove for the seal are not in centre anymore. That can cause a world of hurt with too tight in the block and too loose in the cap. Aka the deapth of the groove compared to the seal.
@roberthirshfield35713 ай бұрын
Did you line bore that engine
@leonhart24523 ай бұрын
This is the first video I have watched o this engine. Did the block get line bored? If so this can be the rear seal leaking issue. Line boring moves the crank up in the block. This changes the way the rear seal fits around the crank. Line boring only moves the crank bearings, it doesnt move the seal mounting. This makes the seal tight at the top of the bearingand loose at the bottom.
